I was thinking back on The Long Halloween and how Gordon, Batman, and Dent all gather togther at that rooftop. Then they have their last meeting when Dent becomes Two Face.

It would make sense to me if it was Two Face who is the one who smashes the bat signal.

Joker would be cool too since he is so over the top in this film.

yeah its definitely a spoiler title... but are we clear now that in the footage shown it DIDN'T show who was smashing it.. I'm getting tired of people saying it was the Joker and they saw him smash it or heard he did... I assume their mind is just piecing together the logical person who would have smashed it based on the other footage - and not actually paying attention to WHAT their eyes actually saw.

Look everyone. It has been heavily rumored that (due to the bat imposter) Batman's relationship with the police is going to come under a heavy strain.

Gordon trusted batman, maybe he feels his trust has been betrayed. It would be something we hadn't seen on screen before (as they have always been chums) it would be resolved by the end of the film, and certainly the shock of seeing him doing something like that would have quite the dramatic effect............

Yah but why wouldnt gordon just shut it down, there is no reason for anyone to erratically put an thru the bat signal except for mr j or 2 face. id say mr j gets freed during his short stay at the gotham police station.

i don't know if i am being dumb here....but why would jim gordon smash the bat signal?

Well.. He gets a bit cocky (you know... emo-style) and half-way during the movie he get some black symbiot goozed over him and transforms himself into a wannabe Batman ("fake Batman" in the storyline, since the symbiot can transform itself into anything, even Batman clothing). There you have your fourth villain..... Joker, Two-Face, the mob, Jim/Fake Batman..

But in the end there will be too many villains and it will make the movie into a chaotic mess with little character developement.

No, only an arm and a hand. You just assume it is the Joker. Plus, the shot was really too quick to tell...
