Get more Poltergeist news

Forget that stupid, half-working fan site that's always dissing us for covering this remake, but I assure you all that THIS REMAKE WILL HAPPEN no matter what some moron writes on his blog. Today we learned that Mandate Pictures, which is now owned by Lionsgate, is officially attempting to acquire the remake rights to Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist. After checking in with multiple sources we learned that the deal is yet to be completed and if Mandate does in fact receive the rights, it does not mean that it will be released via Lionsgate. Watch for any updates as we'll keep you posted. In Tobe Hooper's film a young family are visited by ghosts in their home. At first the ghosts appear friendly, moving objects around the house to the amusement of everyone, then they turn nasty and start to terrorise the family before they "kidnap" the youngest daughter.

They can't be allowed remake Poltergeist. :cmad:

Can no one come up with their own ghost story anymore? :whatever:

Geeze....there's no need for a remake of this.

It's more than twenty years old. Apparently there is. :whatever:

Didn't realize that California had passed a new law ---- ALL MOVIES OVER 20 YEARS OLD SHALL BE REMADE

Hey Hollywood....try to make at least one thing original per year.

It's funny though. Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead were probably the last movies ever that needed remakes, yet all their remakes were nice homages and companion pieces to the originals.

That said, I really dislike the idea of remaking this film

I quit watching Halloween after #3, only saw the original Texas Chainsaw movie.....so don't know about the quality of their remakes. I saw the Dawn of the Dead remake....it was OK, but just didn't grab me like the original.

Maybe I'm just tired of every other film out of Hollywood being a remake these days.

Well some people think that, eventually, we're just going to completely run out of ideas. I had a friend (a writer) who once told me that "there are ten truly original storylines, and everything else is simply a variation on them".

Which is fine.....you can mix parts of ten ideas into a movie...instead of making the same ten stories over and over.

Well, ten things only make so many combinations before you start repeating yourself. Then, in addition, in the world of story telling, only a certain number of those are going to be successful. It's quite possible that after making so many imaginative properties and high concept books and films that the well is beginning to run dry.

My thoughts exactly.

I wonder when they're going to remake Jaws & ET, those two are long overdue.:whatever:

Im cool with a remake.
I hated the movie.
Maybe the next time they can make it decent.

The well has run dry for the non imaginative writers.

When you think about it though, there are millions and millions of movies. It's impressive that there still are creative ideas left after all those films.

There's far more books than there are movies. I don't see scholastics pumping out re-writes of every classic novel ever made. If an author can come up with a semi-new story then so should a scriptwriter.

Ugh, is nothing sacred anymore?

I'll stay home and watch my DVD of the original.

After all these past remakes I've officially stopped *****ing about them.

If the trailer looks good/alright I might check it out. Just like the remake of Dawn of the Dead, it could be fun but won't ever come close to the original.

Some movies deserve to be remade because the original premise was good but the filmakers just werent able to do that premise justice for whatever reason.

Some movies are basically note perfect from the get go and shouldnt be touched with a bargepole as remake fodder as you simply cannot improve upon perfection.

Poltergeist is the latter of the two.

I expect this to go the way of 'the Omen' remake; namely, down the toilet.

I wouldn't touch this remake with a twenty foot pole, not because it's a loved film, but because of the supposed curse on the original series. :o

That 'curse' is about as viable as the Superman one.

All circumstancial events linked together by the media to make an interesting story.

Stuff happens to people: FACT.

i just looked at my horror dvds and i think at least 85% have been remade or are going to be remade :(
