Power Rangers celebrates its 20th Anniversary today.

20 years ago today, August 28th, 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired its first episode "Day of the Dumpster" on Fox.

It was a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS WERE BORN!

Man I feel old. There has yet to be a phenomenon as massive as the power rangers was. ( Well, maybe Pokemon).

It is great that PR has lasted this long but it is sad that Saban and others don't treat it with the respect they should to keep the show progressing.

Agreed. the quality of the show was upheld until 2007, when Disney stopped caring to produce good seasons.

RPM in 2009 was the last good season and was really a season for the adult/long time fans.

And Saban, they care but not enough to poor money into making it as high quality as it was when they had it, or even the early Disney seasons.

Pretty much sums up Saban's intent with this franchise.

He's a cheapskate who forced the early cast members to work grueling hours and give them a weak paycheck because they weren't union

I feel like the only person who hated RPM.

EDIT: Also, for the love of God, recommending TV-Nihon at all should've been discouraged by the 11th Commandment.

How much better do the Japanese actors have it? Is landing a Tokusatsu gig considered a good thing? Do they use it as a stepping stone towards something bigger?

Nah, I've seem others who've hated that series. So you're not alone.

And yeah, I think there are some things to hate about that series, like the completely forgettable villains. But besides that, I thought it was a really weell done series, and definitely one of my top 3 favorites.

It's the only season where I feel like my intelligence was insulted by literally every single thing about it. Somehow, it's easier to perceive Rita Repulsa as a threat than it is to perceive Venjix as one. There is no reason he wasn't able to destroy Corinth.

I hated the origin episodes too. Especially Ranger Yellow.

Wow 20 years today....I was 4 years old back then. Don't think I even caught the first episode when it aired, but man, I remember watching until the primetime premiere of Season 2.

20 years? I feel old as hell

I still say that SPD remains my favorite season post-MMPR

if a new Power Rangers movie were to happen, getting Jason David Frank in will be a great first step

It's not slave labor but they do get treated pretty harshly sometimes

The actress who played PteraRanger(MMPR) was supposedly brought to tears by a director

Looking at her Japanese wiki page, apparently she had never met a man as scary as Director Toujou Shouhei during the filming of ZyuRanger. In an unverified pargraph, it says the director said things like, "Mei, you idiot! Why don't you go die?!" "You sure are crying a lot! Stop it! Change in scenario! Switch heroines!" "I've never seen such an awful female warrior before!" which would cause her to cry everyday. But he strictly taught her manners and courtesy and in the end she was grateful to him. The last thing that it says is that they both came from Fukushima, so the director complained that she had a bit of an accent. Secretly she thought, "The director also has that accent..."

Like I said, I didn't see a source for this story, so who knows how true it is. Take it with a grain of salt

The actors also have to do alot of promotional stuff around Japan like stage shows etc.

Also their interviews at show press conferences are mostly scripted answers and questions

But with Japanese culture they power through the cruelness. In the end they think back on the time they're with a Sentai show as good memories for the most part

The actors are basically groomed to be pop sensations too with special character songs sung by the actors

Also the girls go on to do many modeling photoshoots

Some of the lucky actors even go on to do a successful Japanese soap opera

So upon reflecting

Gokeiger is hands down my all time favorite sentai and my favorite team

With that being said I'm not really looking forward to Super Megaforce
Already I feel the team isn't on the same level as Gokeiger especially since Troy is nowhere near as charismatic as Marvelous
And I don't feel they can deliver like the sentai did

Only thing I'm looking forward to is the return of the legends and for the most part Tommy

Why so down on TV-Nihon?

.......and I'm with you louiebling$ on Gokaiger; it is my favorite Super Sentai too, so I'm a bit worried about how it will be presented to us in the U.S.

So Uhh watched Beetleborgs on netflix..... Dear god it has aged horribly

I can't believe I liked that show when I was a kid :barf:

You know some of that footage was already 10 years old when they adapted it. Same with VR Troopers, which was actually two different Space Sheriff Gaven series edited together, which is why the team of 3 almost never appeared onscreen together. That show also had very old footage. I can't imagine it looks good considering how the MMPR footage looked old while it really was about a year older than the American footage.

Man, I so want that JDF Green ranger movie to happen. Would be a lot of fun I think. Also, my favorite Sentai was Shinkenger.

Also Masked Rider was using footage from 1988

Black RX had an awesome OP
