Love the pics of the returning crew, Kerone, Cassie, and Dana, all classic Pink Rangers. Glad to see so many back.
ImmaDeker: Of course I watched MMPR, and yes it was really kid-oriented, HOWEVER they also talked about very mature topics,
Since when?
especially as the later seasons went on, they killed Rangers,
Like Kendrix, who magically came back to life.
Or maybe you meant Alex, who magically came back to life.
Surely you mean Daggeron and Leanbow, who magically came back to life.
But don't worry, I know you actually mean Gem and Gemma, who magically came back to life.
"Rangers" is deceptive. The only permanent death of a morphed hero is the first Magna Defender who, surprise, didn't really get what you'd call a "mature" death. He's consumed by his vengeance and upon his death reunites with Zika in a happy ending in Rubber Suit Heaven. Magna Defender is the only time death has any real repercussions and it's done in a way that lets the audience know it's NOT actually a sad event in the end, the impact of it is hurt because the emotion of the scene is being happy Magna Defender is with his son again. Then Mike gets the Magna Defender powers anyway, so it doesn't even really have anything resembling lasting repercussions.
So out of all the heroes who died FOR REALS, there's literally only one that lasted. And even then, that wasn't really approached in a way I'd call "mature." Heartwarming, maybe, if early Lost Galaxy wasn't ****ing awful. It shows a nice optimistic ending for a character. But I wouldn't make the argument that showing a character all happy and going to heaven after pursuing a horrible blood feud as "mature", because I am an adult man.
But Zordon's death was another device to get rid of actual repercussions. That ENDS the six year story arc of Zordon's teams. When we see Tommy again, for example? We never get his perspective on Zordon's death. Nor Jason's. Zordon's death and the emotional impact is never ACTUALLY dealt with. It's actually used to reverse actual repercussions: with Zordon dying, Andros doesn't have to live with killing his own sister and evil characters such as Rita, Divatox, and Zedd are magically turned good and thus don't have to face proper punishment, repercussion, or even so much as DWELL on their horrible actions. There's nothing there to make us assume they have, like, Angelus guilt. When they're turned good they're immediately happy and full of joy and never receive any level of guilt or comeuppance for their evils.
It's literally the
least mature or nuanced outcome of Zordon's death humanly possible.
I don't get how that's inherently "very mature" subject matter. That happens all the time in kid's TV. It's a staple of dramatic fiction for LITERALLY EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC.
Kids lie all the time. Lying is part of being immature and, likewise, a show dealing with lying or having characters lie is tackling the most basic problem children will ever face on the playground.
It reminds me of that one episode where Zedd used the Mirror of Regret to show Adam his "dark past", which is just Adam being made fun of on the playground.
But no, the show used to be super mature, guys.
Are you serious? Again. Like every kid's show ever.
Then they tried to "protect" the kids but limiting what they did and heard. Some of the later seasons were way too kid-friendly while others pushed boundaries. Megaforce is WAY to focused on the "protect the earth" thing they're going for. I mentioned above that the kept saying that line about every other sentence, they're trying to drill it into the kids brains instead of letting it come naturally.
That's all I meant.
NOTHING in PR ever has any lasting mature implications. The closest the villains ever got to being emotionally or motivationally complex (Ransik) is still overly simplified and in many cases contradictory and awful. Ransik begins as having a point but his redemption in Wild Force is him turning human, which is a gross oversimplification of the themes Time Force tried to tackle. And Time Force ITSELF had resolved Ransik as realizing his entire rebellion was "founded on hatred" EVEN THOUGH HE WAS BEING OPPRESSED BY THE GOVERNMENT. Time Force was a season where evil, in this case the prejudice of Millennium City, won and you were unironically rooting for the bad guys (even though Power Rangers fans don't notice, because they're all primarily idiots).
"Mature" Power Rangers is such a terrible show on every conceivable level. I prefer stuff like MMPR and Megaforce because they don't botch their high fallutin' themes they think they can handle, but can't.
Power Rangers is not "very mature." And Megaforce isn't really that far removed from where the show began.
