Religilous starring BILL MAHER (who is totally famous and stuff) was an attack on religious institution. Every left-wing liberal arts school kid saw that movie so it was able to make money. Also it wasn't in theatres in several places around here as well because of the high Christian population it would not have been cost effective to do so.

regardless... far more controversial films have indeed been released in the US... there's more to this then just religious fanatics preventing it from happening

I'm still shocked that only 39% of Americans believe in the theory of evolution.

I agree with you, plenty more controversial movies have come out. The movie would just go do the more art house/indie theaters anyway, it would never be released mass market. Something seems off about the story.

Charles Darwins is a global figure in terms of what his work means to people. No one in Britain is gonna see this movie because Darwin was british.

I'm not Jewish or was alive during world war 2 but I still watched schindler's list nationality doesn't really play apart in what movies people see unless its really specific most of the time.

This has more to do with modern Hollywoods lack of will to take risks rather than what Christians think IMO.
Darwin is on British money...how is he not a British figure:huh: Franklin is on US money...is he not a US figure? Like I said, Franklin was a US figure and a global figure just like Darwin, but I guarantee you no one would care to see a movie about Franklin in Europe. So, why would distributors spend money to buy the rights when they don't think anybody will see the film:huh:

I would agree that it is partly Hollywood but this has absolutely nothing to do with religion. It is just a distributor not wanting to risk losing money, nothing else.

I agree.

Kevin Smith's Dogma was very controversial and that got released also.

Eh, we may be backward, but I'll wager most Americans, even if they misspell the word, know there's an "l" in world.

Like William Wallace... no one outside of Scotland would see a movie about him.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

that's probably because most of the audience didn't know that William Wallace was an actual historical figure and just saw dreamy Mel Gibson in a kilt

So by your reasoning, put Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a top hat holding a beagle and you've got a great movie.

with American movie audiences...probably....a lot of women in my office watch 'The Tudors' and I don't think they care what actually happened with Henry VIII

I have sympathy for Bettany as he was probably in his element playing Darwin, the man is an atheist himself.

ha ha!

It really is a pretty good series, if ya like court intrigue... and not L.A. Court intrigue...

Old School!

:D

Are largely famous people in this Darwin movie? I forgot that Mel Gibson wasn't in Braveheart:dry::dry::dry::dry::dry:

As someone above said, nobody in the US cared about Wallace, they cared that Mel was starring. If Brad Pitt was Darwin, then the movie would open here.

Im sure this film will get a DVD release here in the US eventually

Christians aren't really responsible for this money hungry distributors that are afraid of doing anything controversial are to blame. If you ask me *****ing about religious people in this situation just doesn't make sense. American distributors do not care what America thinks as long as they can make money and if they can't make money they won't distribute.

In my area movies like Sicko and Bruno and the Jackass movies weren't released in our biggest theatres because the managers of those facilities knew that releasing movies like that would create negative publicity and could cost sales and that the number of people interested in seeing the movie weren't that high to begin with in that area.

It has nothing to do with religion.
I agree that it has nothing to do with religion.
I agree completely, I just can't see this film making much money anywhere to be honest nothing to do with religion, just the fact that today's audiences seem to prefer big explosions and what not.
yup, again it's about making money not a religious thing.
I agree with Walrus. Charles Darwin is a British figure. If someone made a film about Benjamin Franklin, nobody in Britain would give two cents to see it. I find Darwin interesting and love to learn about him in school...but I am not going to see a movie about him.
I wouldn't care to see a movie about him either......... BORING.

What if he did naughty things with the crew of the ship?

I have to agree that a movie about Darwin's scientific processes would be boring. A movie about the world and church reacting to them, though...that I'd go see.
