Psych

I've never seen it, but I have to admit, the prospect of an unfunny or less funny Psych isn't encouraging. Psych itself sounded like a cheap Monk imitation when it was announced, but it's the very '80s/'90s sense of humor that sets it apart and makes it perfect for people of that generation (which I assume most of us here are).

It's practically become it's own genre on TV. The quirky lead character who assists law enforcement to solve crimes (Monk, Psych, Mentalist, Castle, Lie To Me, etc.).

Even if it is now a 'genre' of television shows... still better than the sassy nurse that pretty much runs the hospital which is starting to pop up now. :hehe:

Yeah, and it's one that USA tends to do a lot of. If you generalize it a bit more, Royal Pains (medical establishment rather than law enforcement) and In Plain Sight (main characters actually do work for law enforcement) fit that description, too. Burn Notice is basically the only thing USA does that's radically different from its other shows. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, since I like most of USA's shows.

Most shows I just have absolutely no interest in watching, but Burn Notice and Psych immediately had me hooked. That didn't even happen with Scrubs... I eased into that.

As someone who's studying to become what's essentially a nurse, those shows piss me off. Nurses are important, but the way these nurses act on some of these shows is definitely out of line and would get them fired immediately.

USA's shows are essentially all character-driven, which fits with their "Characters welcome" ad campaign.

I'm not sure which of those shows you're referring to in particular, but given that most TV shows tend to portray their casts as dysfunctional families (regardless of whether they're actually families or coworkers or what), the nurses tend to represent the mother figures, so that's probably why they get away with it. Not realistic, of course, but it makes a kind of sense from a TV perspective.

I'd gather he's talking about that new Jada Pinkett Smith show where she yells and screams at doctors and cops because she's a nurse. Makes sense.

Hawthorne, Nurse Jackie, and Mercy. And I doubt that is going to be the only bunch of them in a little while.

I don't watch any of those. I'm not a huge fan of medical shows in general. ER was enough for me, and since I lost interest in that, I haven't felt the need to get into any others (except Royal Pains).

Entertainment Weekly gave the season premier a C rating. The reviewer complained that they made jokes that 'claimed' the Mentalist was a rip-off of Pysch. Their response was a simple "As if."

:facepalm

Not to mention EW has been giving a hand job to The Mentalist since it hit the air waves. Also, Psych can't be Monk for Morons. Monk post-season 3 has been Monk for Morons.

I guess Shawn needs to be more of an ******* for the people at Entertainment Weekly to like Psych.

They really have. And I don't even want to think about what they have been giving Twilight.

I enjoyed it. Like Cary Elwes character. Good season opener. To be fair though...I don't have the past 3 seasons on dvd (waiting for a big box set when it gets canned and two...lack of room) to compare it to.

Those Mentalist jokes were funny.

Shawn: You've seen the Mentalist, right ?
Cop: Yes.
Shawn: It's like that.
Gus: Except that guy's a fake.
Shawn: Right. If I was a fake psychic, it would be eerily similar.
Gus: Exactly the same.
Shawn: A virtual carbon copy.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Last night's season opener was another gem.

Shawn and Gus are the best duo on tv and those two have more chemistry than anybody on tv.

I love friday nights from 9-11. Monk then Psych

Great episode last night, they make me feel not so back about Monk ending. I love how they constantly call out The Mentalist. Hilarious.
