In defense of The Mentalist, it has found its own niche and is pretty funny.

I've tried watching Mentalist a few times... I like Simon Baker but the show is just boring to me.

Mentalist is a fine show in it's own right, but the concept is clearly lifted from Psych (which does it better).

I've never seen it, but I have to admit, the prospect of an unfunny or less funny Psych isn't encouraging. Psych itself sounded like a cheap Monk imitation when it was announced, but it's the very '80s/'90s sense of humor that sets it apart and makes it perfect for people of that generation (which I assume most of us here are).

Yeah it's the character interaction that makes Psych so great, not so much the plots.
