i really enjoyed the performances and would of liked more time spent with some of the characters. i like how it was shot and enjoy mann's style. i thought some of the best scenes were between marion and depp. also dillinger walking through the station , his dialogue with purvis , marion's interrogation , the last robbery , and dillinger in the theatre .

still doesn't hit theatres here for another 26 days :(

the wait is killing me :(

Went and saw it a second time. This time on a smaller screen and in a much better seat. Wasn't nearly as bothered with the shaky handheld camera as I was the first time.

yeah, the way the film was shot was new to me but I liked it.

I wish anyone who makes a big budget movie using a digital camera would get a kick to the nuts.

But thats just me. :hehe:

7.5/10

I liked it but...something was missing. I think it lacked focus maybe.

Loved it. Bale was great. Depp was amazing & very slick!

It was great when Bale said to the immigrant, about catching a boat in 48hrs to go back to her country.

Oh No, Are the action scenes blurry and shaky ??

The new digital camera was a change of pace...kinda weird at first but I like the decision made by Mann to use it..some of the scenes, mostly at the hotel look like they were shot live and not pre-recorded, which was crazy. I am glad to see directors going this route and trying new ****, and Cameron's experiment will be the next.

All right, so before I launch into this let me say one thing: When I went to see this yesterday, I was stoned out of my mind on pain meds and they were making me drowsy. That said, I'm not sure if it was the drugs that made me not enjoy the movie or if I just didn't enjoy it.

In my opinion, it was just an average film.

I learned the hard way not too get too hyped up about a film (Attack of the Clones, Spider-Man 3) so I wasn't getting my hopes up about this one. Nevertheless, I wanted to like it a lot. The casting was the firth thing that made me excited. I really didn't think a movie could be bad if it had Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard and Billy Crudup in it, but--in my opinion--this film proved me wrong.

I never really felt a strong connection to the characters. I didn't buy how Depp's character and Cotillard's character hit it off so well.

The handheld thing I could take or leave, but in the few film classes I've took the view on shooting something handheld has always been a sign of hurriedness and laziness. The thing about the camera work that really upset me was how grainy it looked in some night shots toward the end of the film.

And another thing, I know Dillinger was supposed to be loved--almost idolized--by the public, but I didn't really get that vibe from the film. There were a few scenes of Depp being his charismatic self, but nothing he did really screamed 'hero of the little people' to me.

Now, if you read through all of that and want to have an intelligent discussion about my views, feel free. But if you just skipped to this paragraph I'll just restate: I thought Public Enemies was an average film.

It was like watching a movie on a 1080p hdtv with 240hz

so Mann shot it with a digital camera? Cool. I really liked that technique. You're right Terry, it did feel live and not pre-recorded.

Mann is not experimenting. this is not the first movie that looks like this.
isnt this supposed to be a cinematic movie? so it should look cinematic right?

i think Mann is a fantastic director and has always a good story and good acting. but i dont understand how you can compare him to Cameron who is always bringing really something new to the table.

The look is keeping me from seeing it right away. I don't have an issue with the video look in films like Miami Vice, but it stands out in the worst way for a film based in the 1930's.

throughout the movie, I kept telling my friends "I can't believe Depp is 45." He's more youthful than the most of the younger actors in the movie.

He just turned 46, actually. Yeah, the guy doesn't really age.

It's the female following that gives him his youth.

The action scenes were never a problem.

It was a few of the scenes where they've got cloesups and where they're following a group of people talking.

Didn't bother me when I had a better seat.

Somewhere in an attic is a picture of Depp getting older.

OMG, I almost said that exact same thing terry. Nerdy literary jokes ftw. :D

Same with Brad Pitt. The man is what? 44, 45 and looks like he's in his 30's.

Be cool to see Depp and Pitt in a film together. Then suddenly the sound of a million females cry out and then... silence.

I thought the scenes with the media and the swarm of people when he got arrested were a good example of his fame

Like a few of the reviews say, we didn't get quite enough of the public's reaction.
