Punisher 2 Update...(Marcum & Holloway rewriting it now!)

I don't think LGF will get the ball rolling fast enough to get the movie going in time.

I really dont think LG are gonna be releasing it, there are too many holes in it, no lead, no script etc... contracts are gonna expire real soon with that set up.
If Jane doesn't come back I most likely wont buy it, and even think a fair few times about the effort and fairly certain waste of time it would be if I were to download it.

There's a script and a director and surely they're talking to actors. The conflict with Jane was not new. THere's also several actors interested and surely otehrs that have been approached.

Does anyone know exactly when LGF's contract for the rights expires . . . other than "soon"? Because if we had a specific timeframe, it would be alot easier to take a guess at whether or not they're going to be able to get the ball rolling in time or not.

Sadly, without Jane, I really just have absolutely no interest in another Punisher film. He's my favourite comic character of all time, and yet, with the stellar work Marvel are doing with their own properties at the moment, I'd rather watch well made and acted films about characters I care less about, than sit through the rights-maintaining exercise that LGF are due to cast upon us.

And as a huge fan of The Shield, I simply refuse to believe that Sutter's input to the script was that bad. Perhaps the term "you can't polish a turd" applies here as far as what Sutter had to work with by the time it got to him?

Last I've read the script is still being worked on and there is no lead still. I really think that the lack of a viable lead is enougth of a problem for them not to start work on it soon. Plus the unfinished script really stops actors from thinking this isnt a half arsed movie.

Best bet FOR THE FANS would be for them to not make the movie, Marvel reclaims rights, they get Jane back, they write the script as if they ripped it straight from Ennis' books and somehow they claim the Russian never died. 'Cos he was funny. Nothing better than bad wrestlers badly acting/wrestling.

Lets hope. Because that's what needs to happen.

Lexi Alexander has closed a deal to direct Punisher 2 and apparently the studio wanted her but Tom Jane did not.

I have little confidence that Lexi Alexander can deliver the goods. Jane's view only solidifies my feeling.

Maybe thats why Jane backed out because since he's signed to 3, he knows LG is going to have to wait for him. He might be waiting for LG to send the rights back to Marvel. Yea, there looking for another Castle, but who's going to play a part with a sucky script who's a Punisher fan to play The Punisher? I think LG is going to wait a long time.

If so, why hire the guys that worked on Iron Man to rush re-write Punisher 2? Marvel is caught between a rock and a hard place. Sit back and hope LGF doesn't shoot the crap in time and get the rights back or step in to try and fix the problem. They're doing the right thing by stepping in to protect the character even though it means losing an ace like Thomas Jane.

I think his contract probably isn't with LGF anymore, it was probably just with Artisan in the first place. It's possible they "inherited" it, but if an actor wants out of a movie you'd better let him go... pretty bad situation to have an unwilling participant on set. I'm sure the contract is now null and void by mutual agreement.

Didn't Janes pull out cause they were taking so long to do it. He got riped and ready for 2years and still no script so he called it quits. I hope he does come back,as it would be hard to see someone else as Punisher.
I do like the guy from Anacanda's(pt2),he almost looks like Jane, and hes got a little bigger build, but since Jane was in first one I just assume keep him than bounce from actor to actor..
I do hate it when companys decide at last second to work on script knowing they will lose the rights soon.

^ No he kept trashing the script. The funny thing is the original script from what I understand was Hensleighs and it's been re-written several times.

He probably had a certain punisher arc he wanted covered and every script sent his way didn't have it.

I mean we heard macguire say he wanted sandman and by the third movie they caved, maybe jane didn't want to wait until a third movie, or was nervous there wouldn't be one if the reaction was bad to the sequel.

Well, it's been quiet for a while now.

News is coming any day now on casting...there's no way around it. Will they go for an older Punisher "MAX"???

I'm to the point that I don't even give a rat's ass anymore if they do one. And I hate it because I am a huge Punisher fan.

Let's just wait and see how it pans out. I think there's more stuff going on behind the scenes than we all know and some bad blood too. Just because there are creative difference doesn't mean Punisher is not gonna be a great film. It sucks that Jane is gone but he also wanted to turn this franchise into Taxi Driver. I'm not sure if that's the right road either. All I know is I want it serious, I want more action, more gunplay, more violence, and more Punishment. :)

Lexi is a competent director...who's gonna be the actor and what is the budget gonna be?

to restate what I said earlier, I just don't care anymore if it gets made. As a fan of the first movie and a huge Punisher fan in general, I am sick and tired of being jerked around with false hope about it getting started. I think I finally understand what Tom Jane was going through with the production.

Were in the same boat buddy, with Jane gone, i literally have ZERO interest in any sequel. Get him back and i'll be excited again.

^ I'll tell you how the movie is then. But if you're not even interested you probably won't see my review when I post it. Oh well.

Bahahaha... wow... if you had a script you'd be falling over yourself to get a review on the internet... I think you get 'till the end of the day before I say good day sir.

On the script being Hensleigh's script re-written... I would not go that route. I happened to like it but it wasn't like the idea was so awesome that I'd keep trying to re-write it to the same beat. That would be (is?) pretty sad.

^ Oh yeah like my Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil, Elektra, and Blade Trinity reviews. Red give up your quest that I love all Marvel films and nothing else. That's BS.

I say just take away the sequel section on these Punisher boards. I wanted a sequel but I just can't see this franchise going foward without TJ. No one gives a $hit about this project why should I, this franchise is dead. No Jane, no sequel! :unishr:

First off nobody knows the true story except for Lionsgate, Tom Jane, and Hensleigh. There might be other stuff going on that we don't known about. I personally don't know anyone involved so can vouch for their character off screen. I'm giving this film the benefit of the doubt.

And Collosus for some reason I did NOT like the original X-Men though I loved X2 and X3...but for different reasons. X3 I really enjoyed because I got to see all the new characters and some major action sequenes involving them instead of just watching them drinking soda. Most of the actors contracts were up so they had fun with it.
