Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I don’t know. If I knew people thought I killed my wife, I’d be denying it more loudly. He seemed ok with people believing it.

This might have just replaced Reservoir Dogs as my favourite Tarantino. It's certainly up there for me. Really, really enjoyable movie. I liked it a lot.

I've seen it only once, but after doing my end-of-year cinema in review, I think Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood might be my favourite. It doesn't necessarily mean it's the BEST of the year, but it is the one I enjoyed the most, every minute of it. The look, the feel, the characters, the music, the themes, it was funny, light-hearted (unusual for a Tarantino film), it felt like a love letter to TV and cinema. There are other films I really liked this year (Parasite, Marriage Story, Dolemite) but Once Upon... has that elusive "rewatchability" factor that I always look for in a film.

Didn’t get the chance to see this on the big screen, but just watched on Blu-ray and now I’m furious with myself for not witnessing the climax on the big screen.

Finally saw it and I really didn't like it. It felt like a meandering excuse for Tarantino to shoot in this era without any particular rhyme or reason or story to drive it forward. Was disappointed to see it win against something like Jojo Rabbit. The cast is great. so I can't complain about Pitt's win, but I'm not looking forward to this vacuuming up awards this season.

Completely agree, but Hollywood loves films that glorify themselves. Pitts award win was baffling to me though.

I like Pitt a lot as an actor and I think he was really good in this but he's been more impressive in other roles. This movie was a big ball of nothing but like Closerframe said, Hollywood is so in love with itself (and with Tarantino) that it will shower this with awards even though it doesn't deserve them.

The second time I realized that Sharon Tate was meant to be shown as a rising star to contrast Rick's falling one. Once I say that, her role thematically fit the movie and ending better.

It's also an unusual upbeat film for Tarantino with a happier ending, which felt like a welcome change for once.

Give him that Oscar, pls.

Really didn't rate this movie and im a big Tarantino fan.

With that said I am so glad Pitt won the award he in my opinion was far an away the best performance of the movie (DiCaprio was great as always) but Pitt felt like he stole every damn scene he was often with much less dialogue to work with.

Haven't seen all of his movies but this is probably the best performance I have seen from Pitt period.

I felt this movie was way too long and boring. It felt like a bunch of random scenes stitched together. It doesn’t really pick up/ get interesting until the last 45 minutes or so, but when it does, it’s so good. I think it would be a better movie if they cut out 30 minutes to an hour.

They should have cut the extended meta scene of Margot ''watching herself'' in the cinema and also the long drawn out sequence when Bradd Pitt is approaching that ranch house to find his old director friend. I've read commentary on how it was intended to be anti-climatic as nothing ends up happening, which is a subversion of how a tense scene usually ends with Tartintino, such as the opening to Inglrious Basterds. But I feel it just doesn't work and Tarintino should have just stuck to what he does best, tense gripping scenes that lead to a dazzling bonanza. This one just kinda mellowed out even though Brad ends up beating up beating that hippy who blew his tyres.

I actually liked the ranch scene. I thought the movie started moving forward with that scene. I think a lot of Margot’s scenes could have been cut as well the scenes with Leo filming his guest scenes on various shows. The movie wouldn’t change if those scenes weren’t there IMO.

I found this to be extremely average. Some good individual scenes but lacking overall cohesion. Feels like I can just watch scenes and YouTube and easily piece together the movie.

I like this film but it might be Tarantino's weakest . I think I like Deathproof more but either way it's near the bottom. Tarantino has never made anything I haven't liked though .

It was cool, chill, sweet, but kind of thin. A good movie but still one of Tarantino's weakest:

Pulp Fiction 9.5/10
Inglourious Basterds 9/10
Jackie Brown 9/10
Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 8.5/10
Django Unchained 8.5/10
Reservoir Dogs 8/10
Hateful Eight 8/10
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 7.5/10
Death Proof 7/10

For me the Kill Bill movies are his weakest work. They're still great, but I always feel like both movies are too full of themselves, which makes them less likeable than his other work.
