Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I think the people who complain about people like that greatly exaggerate how many of them there actually are, and anyone stupid enough to put forth criticisms like that aren't worth bothering with in any serious conversation.

Feminazis and PC nuts (some call themselves film critics) hate this movie for a long list of reasons. Been reading reviews since yesterday and its a pretty hilarious list:

-How dare QT hire alleged female assaulter Emile Hirsch?
-How dare QT relegate Margot Robbie to a small supporting role? "Robbie and all women should be the stars(!!!)"
-How dare QT depict alleged sexual predator Roman Polanski in anything but a negative light?
-How dare QT make Margaret Qualley (24) portray a hippie character who's sexually interested in the stuntman played by Brad Pitt (56)? "That's disgusting (!!!)."
-How dare QT shoot gruesome violence inflicted upon women by a man? "It doesn't matter that
the women are Manson followers trying to kill innocents
). Thats not the point."
-How dare QT glorify male chauvinism in the 60s? "That was a disgusting time in America where men ran the industry. It should be forgotten and erased."
-How dare QT objectify Sharon Tate by having Steve McQueen narrate her love life and express his desire to have her? "Men shouldn't talk about women's choices EVER."
-How dare QT suggest Brad Pitt's character
killed his wife
and play it for laughs? "A
woman's death
should never be humorous."
-How dare QT even continue to make movies after endangering Uma Thurman's life on the set of Kill Bill and spitting on her face during a scene? "He should not be allowed to direct anything in today's evolved world."

I feel like we're gonna get to a point in American film culture where women will not legally be allowed to be shown in a negative or sexualized light and unless they're the protagonists the films simply won't get greenlit.

Critics are actually upset that Pitt and Leo are the stars of the movie because they're masculine White "he-men" who fight, drink, curse and kill. Just let that sink in.

The world is upside down.

I mean, some of those things seem like valid criticisms against Tarantino specifically the Uma Thurman incident. Also, he was one of Weinstein's biggest collaborators, and did he not admit to being aware of Weinstein's behavior and looking the other way?

I'm not saying Tarantino should go to jail or should be banned from the industry, but far worse has happened to people who have done less.

Um, the vast majority of critics liked this movie and recommended it, FYI.

One of the critics in question that I came across, actually mentions how annoyed he is with critics who liked it and can't believe how a film like this can achieve a high rating on RT in this day and age.

Those so called criticisms are hilarious.

On another note...

I've seen people mention how much feet were shown in this and they think Quenting went overboard with his foot fetish.

He was Clearly in on it as a joke for this one film. Basically milking it after years of people giving him **** because he has a foot fetish. I was cracking up how in your face he acknowledged, "yeah ***holes, I have a foot fetish".

Bridget Fonda's feet are showstealers in Jackie Brown. Dude knows how to shoot feet.

Cliff Booth didn't seem very bothered with those dirty ass nasty bare feet on the windshield of his boss' car.

Interesting that people say Pitt stole the show. I think Leo did the superior acting job, his best acting in several movies. That scene with the little girl was absolutely mesmerizing. However I loved the Cliff Booth character much more than the Rick Dalton character and I think that's what everyone is reacting to. Cliff is what a friend should be. Both of those guys were great when on screen, either solo or together, and Brad had more riveting scenes than Leo, specifically the Spahn Ranch scene and the final scene. I think that's why folks say he stole the show. But IMO Leo crushed his role.

Margot Robbie's usage was unfortunate. I get what QT was going for....Sharon Tate was definitely the heart of the film, but she is more of a symbol representing the last of the great Golden Era of Hollywood, than an actual character. She wasn't really given much to do and we don't get to really know Sharon Tate at all.

Yeah but Brad and Leo pretty much made this movie. We need another Leo-Brad bros movie.

8/10

Agreed on Tate. Her part should have been as brief as McQueen or Lee's.

Ever since Sally Menke died, QT's films became bloated. He clearly doesn't have anyone to tell him there's excess fat to do away with anymore. These last 3 films are all 40-50 minutes too long.

Won't have a chance to see this until next week. :(

Yeah, I have no issue with Margot's screen time. This ain't her story. She did wonderful with her time tho.

IMO we didn't need that scene with Cliff's wife. That was a flashback within a flashback. Whenever we see that in a movie, that's excessive.

IMHO no reason this movie needed to be 2 hours 45 minutes long. I'm fine with longer films and that Tarantino likes to let his scenes breathe out and get really immersed, but this was just a lot.

How is your first reaction after walking out of that wonderful movie "ha! take that you dirty feminists!" That's deranged.

There was that controversy from Cannes a few months ago with Tarantino and that critic from The Guardian.

Cliff Booth might be seen as the toxically masculine type that gets highly criticized these days.

Without Menke, he's too self-indulgent. He needs another Menke. An editor that's not afraid of him, that will keep him lean and concise.

Otherwise, his final film will be equally bloated. I pray to God its not KB3. As much as I love KB, I want QT's final movie to be something new and ideally a return to his roots. A contemporary crime film/black comedy set in the QT universe.

If he wasn't stopping at 10, then I'd be all for KB3.

I don't think there is any "might be" about it, his character would be viewed toxic as hell nowadays, but man, if it wasn't refreshing to see a character who just DGAF and is faithful and loyal to the end.

It was incredibly refreshing and anyone who genuinely views Pitt's character in a negative feminazi light should just ignore 95% of films in general. No real movie fan will ever buy this absurd mandate for PC characterization they keep selling. Pitt was awesome from start to finish.

40-50 minutes is a lot! What would you have cut out of all of that??
