Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

It was incredibly refreshing and anyone who genuinely views Pitt's character in a negative feminazi light should just ignore 95% of films in general. No real movie fan will ever buy this absurd mandate for PC characterization they keep selling. Pitt was awesome from start to finish.
Real people don't buy into it either. Most friends and people I know hate PC culture, both men and women, and just like people to just be themselves, warts and all as the saying goes. Instead of these fake, sanitized versions so they can avoid trouble from the masses.

Sometimes I think this outrage culture only exists on TV and the internet.

40-50 minutes is a lot! What would you have cut out of all of that??

The movie is 159 minutes. I would have landed at 124 minutes. Tate's part felt like an extended cameo. I would cut most of it and kept her at one scene like McQueen and Lee's. And then trimmed alot of the montages and driving sequences. Too much time wasted on people driving and scenes from old shows that should have been alot shorter.

Pretty sure if it were up to QT, we'd have watched
most of the episode of FBI Leo
was in.

At this point he's just ****ing with us.

So, gotta say, despite Leo getting top billing, I think Brad Pitt was the MVP of this movie. Not to take away from Leo by any means. But I feel like we spent just as much time getting into Cliff's head as we did with Rick. Whether it was Cliff's unwavering loyalty to Rick, the entire confrontation at the ranch where the Manson clan resided, and that insane showdown at the end, Brad Pitt truly brought his A-game for my money. Really enjoyable time watching this film.

Cliff Booth almost seemed to embody the type of men of that era that male Hollywood stars attempted to emulate onscreen.

Just got out of the film. I really enjoyed it, but I do have some criticisms, mostly with the editing. Tarantino’s direction and writing are top notch, and all the actors were excellent. Leo gave the best performance, but damn did Pitt steal the show.

I absolutely loved this movie. Dicaprio and Pitt are just are on fire here the whole time, and honestly for it to be two and a half hours I honestly didn't feel the length at all. I guess I can understand why some might find it slow and a bit tedious, but man I was hooked from beginning to the end. I loved the energetic momentum it had throughout and Tarantino is really on his A game here in terms of directing and the cinematography. There are some really incredible scenes in this whether it be any of the scenes with Dicaprio and the little girl, DiCaprio with Timothy Olyphant and Luke Perry, Brad Pitt at the ranch or just that completely bat****, but awesome finale that I definitely didn't see coming, but was so damn satisfying. I just wish more was done with Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, but she was still great whenever she was onscreen. I also really enjoyed the supporting roles from Kurt Russel and Al Pacino.

10/10

I can’t wait. So many top actors in one place.

Agreed on Tate. Her part should have been as brief as McQueen or Lee's.

Ever since Sally Menke died, QT's films became bloated. He clearly doesn't have anyone to tell him there's excess fat to do away with anymore. These last 3 films are all 40-50 minutes too long.

I don't see it as a coincidence that his last tautly paced movie was Inglourious Basterds. His films after that show how crucial Sally's role was in making Tarantino's classics.

One of the critics in question that I came across, actually mentions how annoyed he is with critics who liked it and can't believe how a film like this can achieve a high rating on RT in this day and age.

Relax. People like that are a very loud, but very small minority.

I call them "professional offendee's". Their lives aren't what they hoped they'd be. They're angry and bitter. And ultimately, not worth paying attention to.

I saw it today. It's a good film, but not as good as I had anticipated it to be. It definitely needed a trimming in the first half. This movie could have easily lost 30 minutes and it would have been fine. I have to agree with the consensus that Brad Pitt stole the show. His fight with Bruce Lee was probably the highlight of the movie.
The showdown with the Manson family was good old fashioned QT brutality but it's definitely a controversial one. We know from Inglourious Basterds that Tarantino likes to play around with history but shooting Hitler repeatedly in the face is still less controversial than pretending as if the Tate murders didn't happen.

Overall, it's probably middle of the road as far as Tarantino's filmography is concerned. Not as good as Pulp Fiction or Inglourious Basterds but better than The Hateful Eight and Death Proof.

I just got out of the movie and I can't decide how I feel about it? I'm gonna have to sit on it for a bit.

That aside, people who think Pitt did better than Leo weren't paying attention. Pitt's character may have been more fun, but Leo's performance was far more nuanced and required much more range.

Unrelated to the movie, but related to this thread: anyone who uses the term "feminazi" when spouting their opinions on women's issues doesn't have an opinion on women's issues worth listening to.

What about the ever popular SJW?

Soooo much dirty feet.

I think they should both get nods for this. I was reminded of Newman and Redford at times with them. I'm pleasantly surprised by the 40 million opening!

A man behaving like a man, isn't an issue at all. Women (and men) who take offense with that, who are offended by rugged masculinity, earn the brand "feminazi." They push absurd feminism down people's throats and feel righteous when doing so. That's the definition of fascism. "I disagree with you therefore my opinion/voice is invalid." Yeah, no. I don't subscribe to that and will challenge it at every turn. QT feels the same and refuses to be censored by feminazis who think his characters are "toxic men." Brad Pitt is awesome in this movie. The last thing that came to mind when watching him in this was that he was oozing "toxic" masculinity. He oozed masculinity, which is awesome.

That's another word that needs to go. "Toxic." Its just an attack tool by feminazis.

I enjoyed Brad Pitt a ton here and Cliff was my favorite character, but let's not pretend he's the kind of person other men should aspire to be.
He killed his wife for being annoying, for starters.

That's not being a "man's man" or any of that nonsense. That's...something else. That belongs in prison. He was a great and highly entertaining character, but let's not start endorsing his behavior.
