I knew it was sarcasm right off the bat, im just waiting for the funny part.

let me spoil it for you:
it's not coming

Sarcasm doesn't have to involve a joke. He's just pointing out that Joe Q and Joe S have rendered Spidey to being a B-lister. Which is true.

I dont think having the spotlight in the biggest summer blockbuster event is rendering him a B-Lister. Is he acting like one in the comic? Yes. But SPider-Man is still A-List.

But VuMania isn't talking about the films. He's talking about the comics.

If you're referring to Civil War, then still, the point is made. If Peter were at his best, this story would be very different, and possible alot shorter. They moronize him to stretch out these stories.

They do that to all characters, its called: "Plot convinience" and sorry to break this to you but Spidey is nowhere near getting the shaft Reed Richards and Tony Stark are getting from marvel.

Not convenience. You mean contrivance. Never a good thing. And the fact that other characters are being written even worse to sell this idiotic "event" isn't a reasonable excuse.

Its not an excuse, im just saying, Spidey isnt getting shafted that badly. And the event doesnt even revolve around him, its about Cap and Iron Man, Spidey is just one of the bigger players. It happens all the time, a character gets written badly for "convinience" of the "plot" see what I did there. Like Maxwell Lord in Countdow and the lead up to Infinite Crisis. It happens, but Spidey is still a hero and I still dont see how this event would be shorter if Spidey was written correctly.

Well, it would be shorter if it were written well in general. As for the convenience thing- character should ALWAYS supercede plot. Characters as well developed and established as those of Marvel's classic heroes can write themselves at this point. Yet Marvel's editorial staff continue to attempt to shoehorn them into these stories. That's where Marvel has gone wrong over the years, and why they must continue to produce these "events" to inspire sells. Once the event is over, the sales slip. And eventually poeple will tire of these events as well. Were they simply using character development as the inspiration for their stories, this wouldn't happen.

I'm not saying that if they made correct characterization, Civil War wouldn't have happened. But alot of the events would be different.

And speaking of Spidey specifically, such an event would and should challenge him. But challenge him at his best- don't make him an idiot just to further the story along.

Spidey-Fans, you have got to admit, these two have been on quite a role. They took a hyped up, way too powerful for his own good A-lister and return him to the foolish, amateur ability, B-lister we all know he truly is. I mean for the most part, you hear about all the bad these two have done to the character. They supposedly took an every-man character and disenfranchised him from most of his comic book base. Then you hear how they ignored decades of continuity and basically sold out to the countless number of new fans who aren't familiar with the character except for his movie persona. Peter Parker's intelligence has been extremely played down and that Spidey is the whipping boy of the Marvel Universe. My response is "who cares?!!!" He's still one of the most recognizable comic book characters in the world with two successful hit movies. Maybe all that Quesada and Straczynski have done is transformed the character to what he was always meant to be.....a spastic, overly emotional, idiotic dolt of a twenty-something with the ability to receive a beat-down from a girl scout troop on any given day. Everyone knows that Spidey is the “Chandler Bing” of the comic world (we’re talking early “Friends”, before Chandler became cook). My feeling is, if it ain't broke, why fix it? With the sales numbers the comic is receiving nowadays, it's obvious that this is the direction that fans truly want. I mean, not since the days of Doc Samson in the late seventies/early eighties have I seen a character get his butt handed to him on so many occasions. Obviously the recent transformations that Spidey has undergone were actually meant to weaken the character, not make him more powerful (As demonstrated by the butt-kicking he received from Cap in ASM #534). Let's face it folks, possibly Class 20-25 strength, reflexes that are anywhere from 15 to 40 times faster than a normal man (possibly even faster since "The Other"), an enhanced precognitive spider-sense, a costume that provides protection against small arms fire, and ten plus years of fighting experience doesn't mean beans against the pinnacle of human perfection who is a Master of multiple forms of hand-to-hand combat (I wonder who Cap's Sensei was?)

I for one think that these two have finally put Spider-man in the right direction. Well done fellas......Spidey, stay in the B-list crowd where you belong.

<Yawn...>

I just choose to ignore The Other and Sins Past from ever happening, Marvel seems to be doing the same thing.:o

Why is it so hard to pick up on sarcasm, you guys didn't actually think he was serious did you?

I called him a pervert, do you really think I thought he was serious?

This may or may not be a trick question.

I was mainly talking about the first few responses to his post. The sarcasm had clearly sunk in about halfway down the page.

Sorry to be gone so long. I was out purchasing my "Quesada, Editor of the Year" bumper sticker. Don't worry, there are still plenty left....although I don't know why.

I want to thank you all for your comments and insight. Although some of you thought that this was some sarcastic attempt to vent my frustrations over the recent storylines, nothing could be further from the truth. As Darthphere and JackBauer pointed out, this thread was not meant to be funny. Some of the responses/arguments were laughable enough though. I'm of course excluding Darthphere and JackBauer......those two are witty and cool.

Speaking of which, it seems that some of you are finally coming around to what Quesada and Straczynski are trying to do. We as fans should be satisfied if a character is written out of context for the sake of convenience of plot (well said!!) Why continue to demand that characters we grew up with be written to a certain standard continually? C'mon!! That's just too hard!! These writers have lives too! I say damn the original interpretation of the character (intelligent, charismatic "everyman" with which we all can empathize with) and reduce him to the second-string whiny B-Lister. Whatever it takes to get the story out! Well Done!!!

One great thing that Quesada and Straczynski have done for me is given me alot more intrest in DC.
