This thread is mainly for fans who are completely horrified by what Quesada, JMS & Co. have been doing to Spidey as a character, yet CONTINUE TO BUY the books.

To me, it's the same thing as people who b!tch about the government but will not vote.

We, as fans, have only one power when it comes to the direction of our favorite characters: and that is MONEY.

Every single dime that you lay out to buy another completely irrelivant, crapped on, piece of garbage Spider-Man title is just one more reason why Quesada and Co. have not been thrown out on their asses by Marvel. It's pathetic.

Just wondering what the reasons can possibly be that you all would continue to support the horrible direction that Spider-man has been going in the last few years? Cause no matter how much you all complain... you ARE supporting it.

So how come? :down

Because we have nothing else to hold on to other than the sad notion that our childhood idol will suddenly stop being raped.

Metaphorically speaking, or course.

I still buy coz I still believe there's a hope that Spidey'll return to form.

AND BY THE LOOKS OF IT, HE'S GETTING BETTER!

I'm a clear fan of the unmasking!

ASM is the only one that I think is crapola, and I quit that a long time ago.

oy..........the unmasking...........

(headache rushes in)

you DO have something else to hold on to: Ultimate Spider-Man. you don't have to take this s#!t if you don't want to.

me, I'll wait for JQ to get his head out of his ass (and that'll be a llllooooong wait) and get Vaughan on a Spidey book. the man is so perfect for the job it pains me to see his talent denied while a hack like JMS (who, god bless him, has seen much better days) gets the royal treatment.

maybe cos despite all your moaning you know this int life threatening and you can look past it to buy another issue another day and maybe even enjoy it? if you'd given up you woulda missed ASM 533 and SSM 28 or the FNSM shock ending to #10.

Because I'm addicted to Spidey comics and the stories arent as awful as people say. I think that people just like to complain sometimes. A lot do the ideas that fans have are just as bad as what JMS is coming up with.

While I agree, most of the people doing the hardcore complaining around here don't even buy Spider-Man books anymore.

However, I really enjoy what's going on in the books lately, with the unmasking. A very, VERY bumpy road there with The Other, and ruined the totem storyline, but as long as they ignore The Other and his stingers...much like they IGNORE THE CLONE SAGA...everything will be just fine.

Simple. If the writing's good, I read it. If it isn't, I don't. 2 of the 3 Spider-Man titles are still enjoyable to me.

I get it, the Spidey books suck at the moment, can we PLEASE stop making threads on it? I hardly come here anymore cause its like the bleedin depression!

Don't stop coming here because of that, man. Keep voicing your opinion and make it less of a depression.

Christ, I think I'm the only one who actually voices his like of the unmasking and the way everything has been handled. :O

But this is more of a thread that asks why the people who constantly complain about the Spider-Man books keep purchasing them. Which I supposed falls under negativity, but it's a pretty good question...and one that I agree with.

Are there really that many people doing that though?.....the only guy I can think of off the top of my head is maybe Wolverinth25..(can't remember his exact name)

No offence meant to the originator of the thread but the answer seem s to be simple..."cause they're collectors".....and stopping the collectors isn't going to stop the piss poor writing at ASM....for every "hard core, keep it simple" spidey fan out there you'll find two who'll chalk out 5 bucks to see Peter Parker in a tutu....Marvel doesn't play to the "hardcore" fan anymore ...our Spidey is dead and gone and will never return unless it becomes chic again.....

...doesn't mean I won't stop *****ing about it..:) .....but putting my hard earned dollars into comics I do currently enjoy makes more sense than trying to sway a multi-million dollar corporation into writing Spidey the way I believe he should be!.....

Maybe if the Spider-Man books improved in quality then this forum would not be like the bleedin' depression :p

The only Spider-Man books I buy are those which will give me genuine entertainment. Like Ock's come back in Sensational Spider-Man. As much as I hate the unmasking, I'm not going to turn down a Doc Ock comic. And it was a very well written one too.

But you can't complain about the complaining. People have a genuine right to complain. If the forum feels depressing, well that's because the Spidey fans are depressed.

But it's OK for those depressed fans to lash out at the fans who are enjoying things?

Never in this world. Where did I say that?? Have I ever lashed out at you or anyone else??

No, I am referring to Electro UK's remark about people ceasing their negative opinions about the current state of the Spidey comics. It feels depressing in here, well because most people are depressed about the comics :(

Btw, love the new avvy :)

I was only kidding. :O

And, thanks. I needed an upgrade.

Oh yeah, my name is just that complicated to remember.

As I already explained I have a COMPLETIONIST nature. Had it fer a long time, only briefly had th' funds to indulge in it. Now, I'm TRYING to get out of it but it's gonna take time. I've already dropped Powers and Black Panther goes after his weddin'. Baby steps. Also, as stated, I'm holdin' on to the hopes Spidey will eventually IMPROVE one day and I wanna be there when it happens.

And this is th' last time I explain this. I don't owe nobody here an explanation fer why I do what I do. I'll continue to buy th' books fer as long as I please and critique 'em negatively if they deserve it. To anyone who don't like it, too goddam bad. Life's tough. Get a helmet.

Really? I never would have guessed! :)

I, for one, buy them because I want a complete collection. I also think some of the stories in the past couple of years have been quite good, while others have been quite bad. It's the inconsistency that bothers me most. I don't let it get to me because, after all, it's only a comic book. It affects my life in absolutely no way whether the story is great or crappy. I read the issue, enjoy it or not, and then go on to something else. Simple as that, for me anyway.

I really, really don't get the completionist mindset.

If you buy crap, knowing it's crap, with the only intention of bagging/boarding said crap and never look at it again, then where is the satisfaction in that?

what is the point of having a "complete collection" if you're going to skip issues when you re-read them because you know they're crap?

I prefer those who keep collecting because they like the stories. I may not agree with their opinions but at least it makes sense to collect something you actually like.

I do like spider-man overall which is why I collect it. Throughout the history of spider-man there have been good periods and bad. I didn't like the clone saga but it got better when that was done. I didn't much like the first couple of dozen volume 2 issues, but JMS did some good stuff when he first started writing the comic. I didn't like the other, but it seems to be getting a little interesting now. So, it's cyclical and like Wolverine25th said, it'll get better and I want to be there when it does.

And the point of having a complete collection is having a complete collection. I can put my son through college with what my (nearly) complete ASM, complete PPTSSM, Web of, etc. collection is worth.

To have a full run. I only hated Sins past and the Other though.

don't get me wrong, I don't mean to insult anyone but I just can't grasp the concept of "completing the collection".

I can understand wanting to add something you like to your collection or even something you're ambivalent to. But if the only reason is to not miss it when it gets good, trust me, you'll hear about it here complete with spoilers so you'll know when you can go back to buying.

as for the whole kids in college thing, granted you could do it but do you intend to?

Best way I can sum it up like this; people try to get complete collections of baseball cards, right? Yet, they may only like one team and really despise another. Regardless, they desire the ENTIRE collection. Same applies to comics. When you collect somethin', you collect fer th' ENTIRETY. That's part of what bein' a collector is all about. Sure, there are different levels of collector, but that's one of them.

hmm not a bad example. But see, a baseball card series may hold for what? a year or a fixed number of cards (I only collected those when I was really young so I don't remember how it works) but Spidey is an ongoing thing. Odds are that the comics will still be in print long after they shuffle from this mortal coil.

I guess It's just not in me to understand that concept.

Well i made the mistake of quitting a little early. But I have caught up on what I "missed." JMS' work up until about one year ago was very solid. We had the great Ezekial storyling which was well done, MJ getting back with Peter, Aunt May finding out, etc.

But then came Sin's Past and then a sequel to it by Jenkins (who had just ruined Lizard following great renditions of Venom, GG and Doc Ock) and of course the ridiculous Sinister 12 which ****ted on Jenkins' well written and made finale for GG and a good continuation and returning Venom to his roots.

I quit with the onslaught of The Other on the horizon (I knew exactly where that story was going). Spider-Man joining the Avengers is a JOKE and completely out of character. So is he being Iron Man's lackey, especially after Iron Man became George W. Bush. And then the ultimate insult of him revealing the world he is Spider-Man.

I look forward to JJJ and Flash's reaction as well as well as Liz and Betty but after that I don't give a flying **** what happens. It reached a point where I think it is better to pretend it ended at an earlier point than what we got now. Ultimate Spider-Man has never been very popular for me because it feels like a bit of a rehash (an inferior one) with a lousy bit of him unmasking himself or being found out by just about everyone (and people complain about the Raimi movies?) but they are well writtten and get the character. Something 616 has forgotten how to do unfrotunately.
