Question about women and advertising...

it definitely has to do with my personal tastes. but i do think just about any quality band is capable of doing a quick recording that sounds just as professional as anything else in the mainstream. personally, i like the idea of recording the band live in the studio. i know that comes with its own set of issues (as does any recording style), but for me personally i like things raw and primitive and very organic, capturing that live intensity.

Most producers dont do things that way though. Believe me, it'd be great to go in, pound out the songs and get out. Most quality producers tend to take each instrument and break it down into sections. You can spend hours doing drums for one song before you reach the end. Guitars have to be done a few times, vocals have a few tracks...the only really quick thing seems to be bass because so many producers dont care about it.

yeah, i know, thats not the producer i'd be working with. thats all crap to me. i remember the stories about how johnny ramone almost quit the band when they did their album with phil spector because they're recording his part, and phil was having johnny play one single note repeatedly over and over then on a new guitar repeating that one note over and over, then a new guitar, etc...and he got so fed up with the B.S. of that he almost quit right there. as opposed to their other albums where they stormed into the studio, banged it out, and it was done. and those albums sound way more awesome then the spector album.

And that absolutely works for the Ramones. Would it work for Dream Theater? I tend to doubt it.
