Quiting a job; low-key or blaze or glory?

Low key, the reference comes in useful.

I always get fired:csad:

or don't show up.

God I need to go to rehab.

YOU'RE A CHILD!!!

It depends, a lot of places just give out name, how long you worked there. Of course, if you are in a certain occupation where your boss knows other bosses at different firms, etc it can be problematic.

i typically quit a job the respectable way (putting in a two weeks notice and all that), but there was one job...

i HATED my boss. we all did. i was working a small office of about 20 employees and this guy. he was the that boss that doesn't do his job, so everyone else had to pick up the slack.

anyway, on the night before i quit...i dunno how to put this tastefully...a couple of us got into his office and..."made" fluids and matter on his stuff. everything was covered. the computer, file cabinet, desk...everything. it was great.:woot:
?!
Seriously, did the smell of each other's waste bring you even closer together?

Have you ever quit a job, and did you do so in a polite, mutually-respectful manner, or a, "You can take this job and shove it?" type walkout?

First instinct says go out low key....but the more I go to work the more I think going down in a blaze of glory might be worth it :woot:

I always give notice.
The only time I didn't was a telemarketing job. I hadn't been there two weeks and I kind of felt bad cause a friend had gotten me the job. She was a bit upset by my action but I was young and going through some ****.

I did the SAME thing at DailAmerica. I worked there for 1 day because my friend said she made pretty decent money there and I should try it. I was on a phone with a customer and they just started BLASTING me like crazy before I could even get into my pitch so I cussed right back...without knowing the person who did the random monitoring was randomly monitoring me. They lectured me and told me I'm not allowed to do that (dur) and I said something to the effect of "f*** this I'm out" and left. I got a check 2 or 3 weeks later for 1 day of work.

I asked a couple of supervisors if I could use them as references if I quit a few months ago. I didn't get around to quitting, though. But when I do quit, I have the perfect "blaze of glory" planned...

First, I'll walk over to a nearby television set in the store (it's an electronics store), turn the volume up full blast, and pop in a CD playing "Invincible" by Pat Benatar. Then I'll march to my boss, toss my badge on her desk, and walk away.

I've got a couple good stories from college;

I worked at Best Buy during the summer and my last semester of school, got treated like crap and knew nothing I did there would bite me in the ass later on. I was planning on leaving midway through the Christmas season since that's when school would be over and I'd be moving back home and was planning on handing in my two weeks notice shortly after Thanksgiving when I saw I was scheduled for 40 hours during the week I had finals. So I told them I couldn't work the first two days on my schedule due to finals, the next day I was scheduled I just didn't show up, the day after that waited by the phone till they called and as soon I picked up said "I quit" and hung up. The department I was in was already shorthanded, screwed 'em good.

A friend of mine who worked at an office job moved his chair right in front of the fax machine before he left the night before and faxed a note that just said "I quit" right when he was supposed to show up that day.

Another friend went on break and never showed back up. Sadly a couple weeks later he had to beg for his job back when he realized he actually needed the money.

I believe it is better to quietly go out low-key with social grace class, and dignity.

The few times I have quit a job, it has always been low key. I usually get on well with the folk I work with and only quit because a better opportunity presented itself.

I have actually had 2 different employers find me a new job when they could not keep my services any longer.

However, if you want an example of "blaze of glory"...
