R.I.P.: The Spectacular Spider-Man

Thanks a lot!I have to say It's hard choosing favorite episodes but Blueprints,Nature vs. Nurture and Shear Strength rank high on the list.I had my doubts when I first saw the designs for the show I'll admit but it ended up being everything I wanted in a Spider-man cartoon and more.

I felt the exact same way. Back when I first saw the preview ads and got a look at the design for Spidey I said to myself "This looks lame."

Then I watched it.

I think it's tragic that a show like this, with near feature quality animation, excellent scripting and top-notch voice talent, could have so much stacked against it. Sadly, between switching networks 3 times and Disney buying Marvel, the show never really got the chance to shine that it deserved.

Marvel and Disney made a major mistake.

yea we all loved the show here. Its really does suck things came to be how it is. And as much as we would love to see it continue. its probably not going to happen. Yes sony technically have control on the show ie the 2 seasons/26episodes they produced and they can do as they see fit with it. But since marvel controls the rights to the character itself, and the tv rights. its not likely to see anything of TSSM continue.

Sony cannot make this show without Marvel. Sony can no longer make any Spidey TV show. Marvel negotiated the Spidey TV rights from Sony in exchange for some concessions concerning Sony's right to the upcoming Spidey movies. Now Marvel can use Spidey in their other animated series (i.e. Super Hero Squad) and use other non-Spidey Marvel characters in the Ultimate Spidey show. I feel the only chance of us seeing Greg Weisman's Spectacular Spidey storyline continuing would be in comic book form. I know if Marvel offered, Weisman would be interested. He said so himself:

Hopefully, Marvel will make this right.

Based on comments form C2E2 about the show that seems otherwise.

yea that is pretty much the only way for the show to continue in some fashion. and it would be nice to see that happen. Or at least greg getting to write more asm or even an episode for this new show. what did they say at c2e2?

2010 isn't a good year to be a Spider-Man fan, methinks.

No Spider-Man 4 and no more Spectacular Spider-Man. This sucks! :(

I don't know which one is my favorite episode, I can't decide between Group Therapy, Shear Strength, Gangland and Final Curtain.

Obviously my favorite character was Peter/Spidey. My favorite villain however was without a doubt The Green Goblin, I loved what they did to him in this show, the only thing I didn't like was his design, it wasn't as bad as the movies but I didn't really like it.

Favorite line, well, look at my quote.

yea it does suck when these things happen. I always hate when shows i love either die to soon. Or they end their run(after hopefully a nice length). As for the future all we can hope for is any future adaptions to be just as good as this. Hopefully the makers of USM and even the spidey reboot do take some ques from what weisman did.

Stupid production companies.

Thats how shows get cancelled. They dont air them when they're suppost to. Season 2 was just handle badly here in america when it came to air dates.

Same with Batman brave and the bold. Air dates are just handled badly.

yea that is a sucky thing when stuff like this happens and it screws over shows.

I shall miss Steve Blum's Goblin. I take back every bad thing I ever said about his supposed lack of range. That character is right up there with Mark Hamill's Joker. I mean it.

Does Disney XD even air the show any more? I haven't seen the show on TV for a long time (since before the announcement of the official ending of the show and showing off ultimate). I see the 90's show on all the time when I'm home (I need SOME kind of Spidey fix, putting TSSM out and taking it back like they did is like giving a starving man good food and then taking it away...) The fact that Disney XD hasn't been showing reruns anymore starts to make me think that Disney brought the show over just to end it.

Unfortunetely...I'm still not over the cancellation yet... I think the worst part, was the fact that we were JUST getting to the really GOOD parts of Spider-Man lore. TSSM set everything up early, so we knew the basics of what would happen, we were just waiting to see it unfold. Ned Lee got his Spider-Man/Green Goblin exposé in Season 1, did the Spider-Man part in Season 2, and Hobgoblin was set for Season 3...Anyone knowing Ned Leeds history in the comics can connect those dots! We've seen Roderick AND Daniel Kingsley (even though they wouldn't say it outright) in Accomplices, so that part of Hobgoblin's mystery was set up well.
JJJ has a legit reason to hate Spider-Man enough to fund things such as the Spider-Slayers and Scorpion.
The gangs of New York have no single crime boss, now that Norman was temporarily put out of commission...*foams at mouth* AHHGAKHEHJEHGJGD!!!

Another thing I loved about Spectacular Spidey was the diversity in the cast. Because of all of the race lifts, no one seemed to be a token [insert minority here] just for forced diversity. Ned Lee is now Korean, Kenny Kong is now Chinese, Liz Allan and Mark are now Puerto Rican, Roderick Kingsley, Fancy Dan, Dr Bromwell, Principal Davis, and Debra Whitman are now black, and Officer Jean Dewolff is now Native American... In the upcoming show Young Justice, where Aqualad is changed to a black kid seems a bit like forced diversity. However, it just seems so natural with all of these characters in Spectacular Spidey...

Soo...any of you married folks wanna make a deal with Mephisto to save the show?

mistah they have been airing various days and times. i dont get to see disney xd that often. But when i am around the tv that has it i come across 2-3 episodes in a block airing different days and times. Heck i was watching 3/4 episodes myself just a few days ago.

*sigh* Of course, they had a great show with tons of fans. So, naturally, they decide to cancel it and make a new show. Spectacular Spidey didn't last near as long as it should have.

Oh and hi, I'm new =P

I second that, and wlecome to the hype!

I'm 29 and I can't stop watching season 1 (the only volume I could get in the country I live in).

This is awesome entertainment, and it doesn't talk down to its audience.

I hope we get the 2. season soon.

One of the best animated series ever, IMO. It sucks that it's gone.

So...I'm sitting here and listening to Led Zeppelin, and it raised an interest of some sort...

if anyone knows how to make tribute videos for YouTube or something(I see them for Supernatural and Smallville all the time), he/she/you should definitely make a TSSM tribute video using the song "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin showing highlights of the series.

In hindsight, it seems to me to be more Sonys' fault than Marvels. Because Sony decided not to renew the show. Marvel could have, but that would mean buying the rights to a show about a character they already own. It made more sense, cost wise, to begin a new series. Those are the breaks, sad to say.
