So I shouldn't let myself be discouraged by the low rating on rottentomatoes?
Guess this is the kind of movie they start hating months before it comes out.

But it was mentioned that the dialogue was bad by many people, and the whole thing was basically mindless and somehow racist.

The dialogue was fine and it wasn't racist at all. Unless it's racist to kill genocidal madmen who happen to not be white.

Just go see the movie.

Oh I don't know, was just some guy going on about how this was the most degrading film to Asians since the aftermath of Pearl Harbour.

But hey, he'd of complained if it was set in the Middle East...
Agreed, its not racist to kill homicidal maniacs, its just good riddance.

I wonder if its that kind of idiotic sensitivity that plays into why the U.S. and the coalition don't go into Sudan and Northern Uganda... Because it would look racist to kill a bunch of black people?

And perhaps I will... Just discovered 5 buck tuesdays!

:woot: gotta love it

IMO if a movie like Rambo doesnt rake in 100 million worldwide in theatres, I'd consider it a failure. Not a flop, but a definate failure, esp considering what this franchise used to mean.

Yeah, there are other revenues for the movies, but if it cant reach $100 mil for a movie like this, thats pretty pathetic. Sorry, but it is.

Your opinion is delusional. Movies released this time of year typically do not pull in hundreds of millions of dollars. This isn't summer months.

Sorry you think thats pathetic, but your not seeing that it already is a big hit, and theres good reason to believe a majority of Meet the Spartans ticket sales just filled Rambo seats. It's already back to #1, and I'll see it again this weekend.

Another 4/4 review from Arrow in the Head.

http://www.joblo.com/arrow/reviews.php?id=1224

I don't think you'd have problem enjoying this one even if First Blood was the only previous "Rambo" you liked. I think this was just a great action movie. Really brought the series full circle.

Definitely. You don't need to have seen the others. This one stands on its own pretty well.

Yeah, it sucked so much I gave it the lowest score possible, a 10 out of 10.
Well, then I guess I'll check it out  Thanks guys.

Oh, yeah. Forget those clowns. This is a movie made for hardcore blood & guts action fans. It's like a loveletter to all of us who have been waiting patiently for a good old bulletfest.

Don't get me wrong, there are valid criticisms against it. The dialogue is ridiculous (there is one scene where two characters talk about Rambo like he isn't there when he's standing 2 feet away; I can't describe it, it's hysterical).

But half of the critics go on about Sly's age, and it makes me wonder if they even watched the movie. I saw this one guy "review" it on tv, and it was basically a long rant about how Sly is too old and should stop making movies like this; not because they're not good, just because he's old. As if it's his fault that he's a human and that he ages (even though he looks fantastic for 61!). He goes "what about the new generation of action heroes?"

To that I answer "Who cares?" Youth doesn't equal quality. As long as Sly's movies rock, I'll see them until he passes (Rambo would still kick ass in a wheelchair; just park it behind a gattling gun). I don't care if someone like Vin Diesel is half his age; XXX sucks while Rambo remains awesome. :o

Very few movies have had as much blood and death as Rambo did!

The dialogue is not ridiculous. I suppose that you're referring to the boat scenes, but I don't know where you're getting the impression that the characters were acting like he wasn't there when they talked about him.

The dialogue was fine, plenty of it was outright excellent.

Come on. No one loves this movie more than me, but some of the writing was really silly.

I was refering to the scene where the woman missionary (whatever her name was, Karen?) sits up to talk to Rambo, who is standing directly behind them piloting the boat and the lead male missionary goes "What are you doing?" and she replies "I'm going to talk to him." The male says something like "I'm sure he'd rather be left alone", all the while Rambo is just standing there taking it all in. The conversation is set up as if she's going to head far back into the boat to talk to him, when it's nothing but a little step up; Rambo's in the same frame. It was hysterical.

And then of course there's Rambo and Karen(?)'s initial back and forth, which consists literally of a "Go home." "No." "Go home." "We can change things!" "You can't change nothin'!" Yes we can." "You can't change nothing!"

It's classic 80s movie, tough as nails, war is hell, f*** the world stuff. It's great, and totally proper for the movie, but it's not "excellent".

Burmese soldiers exploding into red goo - THAT'S excellent!

There are two things wrong with this movie IMO:

1. It's displayed as a real event (and it is) but Stallone put too much comic book violence/action hero adventures in it for such a horrific real life event. It was like it profited off of other peoples tragedy. The thing that would have made it go over a little better with me is cut out the very first part with the real life news casts. Just put up a little prompt at the beginning explaining whats going on in Burma instead of showing what actual people go through and try to put a fictional action hero in the middle of it all.

2. It was really disturbing to show little kids be mutilated in the village. Once again, this is a fictional 'guy movie.' Putting children under a soldiers knife or in front of an AK-47 is just too much to divulge when I'm trying to enjoy the other pieces of bloody glory.

Besides those two things, I still gave the movie a 10/10. It was great fun, but those two small tweaks would have given me more leeway into entering this world where one soldier lays waste to genocidal maniacs.

On a side note, though. It would be interesting to see a complete remake of the original First Blood. Make it more connected with the book, but update it to today. Instead of having Rambo as a Vietnam vet, let him be a Iraqi vet. Teasle, instead of a Korean War vet, a Gulf War vet. This would allow them to be somewhat closer in relation to one another due to their common former battlegrounds. Also, don't change the ending of the book. Rambo dies!

Good to know, maybe it could be the subject of a guys movie night out. 5 bucks for a movie, can't really lose.

It does seem like the sort of action movie we grew up on, the good stuff. A lot of the pop action movies I see today are just trying to live up to the shadow of the classics.

As for him being old, hell, he doesn't look it... Must be eating his friggin wheaties in the morning. :wow:

Sly put this in the film because this s-hit is really happening in Burma.

He did not want the violence to be cartoony like in RamboII-III, he wanted to show what the situation is really like over there, that's why the violence got through the censors. He wanted to show how bad things are in Burma and what war is really like.

Her name is Sarah. She's the only female character in the movie that is named. Where the hell did karen come from?

Shheeesh, I've seen this on 5 sites now.

BTW- Bets on rambo's placement this weekend? It was #1 from sunday on last week, I think it will be in the top 5 without a doubt.

I understand that. But what I didn't like about it was the fact that he put this larger-than-life action hero into the mix of it to attempt to make it all a great/fun action flick that's purely fictional. It seemed too much like profiteering to me.

That type of violence belongs in true non-fiction films, like a Saving Private Ryan or Platoon type film, not Rambo.

Finally saw Rambo and its not the best of the Rambo but I like his comeback. The gore was a +. I Gave a 7/10

Indeed, this movie is the goddamn bomb!!
all those complaining that he has put in all the killing and gore just for the sake of it are just stupid!
This movie is an extremely accurate portrayal of how reality is today,
where killings and violence are common place in such areas as Burma, etc

Stallone really has knocked this one out of the park.
What a goddamn great movie!

saw this movie last night. It's mindless killing so it's great if you just want to watch a guy kill a bunch of other guys. Never saw the other Rambo movies so I didn't know what to expect. Overall, mediocre film. 6/10

you say that Sly has put in comic book violence in this movie. you are totally wrong.
All i saw was a bloody accurate portrayal of how reality is really like.
If people can't stomach it, then they need to watch it again and understand the true primal instinct of violence that exists today.

If anything, Sly actually didn't put enough violence in it. There are even worse things happening today. Rambo gives an extremely accurate portrayal of how these people are in real life.

I think people should be proud of Stallone's achievement. He's taken one of his most famous characters, removed the more outlandish elements of the previous movies, and given Rambo a place in today's real world.

Quite an astonishing achievement. This movie is like an extended documentary of these real life situations.

Well done Sly ! I hope this movie stays at number 1 this week.

**** those weak ass action movies. This movie delivers everything and more.

10/10.

only those who have never seen real violence or killing will call this film "mediocre".

It's probably because most of you haven't seen what real life killing is like.

go visit ogrish's website, watch a few "real" killing videos, and then rewatch Rambo. Your opinion will change immediately.

Your rating will then become 10/10 for this movie.

Try it if you have the stomach.

I'm not going to rate this 10/10 just for the violence. The dialogue was terrible. True, the killing and gore scenes were realistic I'm sure, but everything else about the film was just mediocre.
