I'm hearing that this film did so well, (18.whatever mill opening weekend) that the studio wants Rambo 5.

Just saw this movie, VERY well done. I was impressed.

considering this movie is a sequel after 20 years, which is a long long time!

this movie has succeeded, and has proven that Sly is still awesome.

First Rocky Balboa and now Rambo. Sly has successfully given each character a proper and final chapter.

What a great movie.

I haven't seen this movie yet, I will probably check it out this weekend. Are there subtitles for Sylvester Stallones lines?

I think maybe Rambo.. will not be the final Rambo film.

While I would love another Rambo film...because I feel that this film really didnt hit the mark it needed to...I dont think we will see one due to the poor box office and critic reception.

I dont see Sly just making this movie for the overseas fans. If it doesnt hit $60 million domestically, dont count on another one.

Rambo hit #1 today making a nice % more than the runner up. I had a feeling word of mouth and the intensity of this film would give it decent legs. Meet the Spartans dropped way down to #6 and now Rambo has made more money than Meet the Spartans since they both opened. LOL It's almost 21 million now.

I want a Rambo 5 just cause I want to see what that crazy idea Stallone said he had for it.

Poor box office? In case you haven't noticed, this is January, not July. Different season, different market, different degrees of financial success. It's doing great for something released this time of year.

Agreed to a point. Of course it cant rake in cash like a summer movie would. However, I dont see this movie making a million dollars a day past this weekend. Considering it will only be a week a few days old after this weekend, we may be around the $30 mill mark by end of Sunday. After that, I highly doubt this film will make enough money to reach $50 mill by the end of its domestic run.

Its true strength will hopefully be the international market. Might pull in another $40 to $50 mill there. Saying that...it will make less money than Rocky Balboa, and IMO, that would be a sign that the movie really didnt work.

Looking at other franchises...Terminator 3, Live Free and Die Hard....and of course the upcoming Indy...if Rambo cant pull in $100 mill worldwide, I doubt Stallone or the studios would do another one, esp the way this film ended.

I am not sure about how many international markets the movie has been released in, but $3 mill only from International markets so far? Not a good sign IF...IF...IF its been widely released overseas. If it hasnt, then maybe nothing to worry about. If it has already...well, I doubt it will hit $100 mill.

But hey, I really hope I am wrong and Rambo brings in a ton of money...so Sly can do another one...PROPERLY. I really didnt think this movie hit all the right notes needed for the character of Rambo. My least fav of the bunch. :(

I've just been hearing the opposite- that the studio did not count on it making this much money this soon in January and so now they want a Rambo 5... ?

THIS IS NOT SUMMER! This film isn't expected to pull in multi-millions per day being released this time of year. Also, International b.O. isn't that much of a big deal right now. It f'ing January, most films released right now are not expected to pull in the big bucks, and between Rambo's take and half of Meet the Spartans (which I believe half of that box office was under age kids buying MTS tickets then sitting in a Rambo showing) it's doing kick a$$.

Well it hasn't been release in most of Mexico and SouthAmerica, so when that happens, anall the different parts in Australia etc...then it will make more

I get the fact its a Jan release. But if the movie still doesnt rake in over $100 mill WORLDWIDE, you think the studios OR Sly would want to do another one? I doubt they would.

The comments they have made so far is that they are only expecting $40-50 mill domestic but expect ALOT more from international markets overseas. As I have said, the movie Internationally has only made $3-4 million so far. Granted its only been 5 or 6 days, and maybe the movie has not been released in all overseas markets yet. But in comparison to franchises like T3 or Live Free Die Hard...those latter movies made tons and tons of money Internationally. Rambo doesnt look good right now for the overseas market if its been a wide release over there.

Thats all I am saying.

And if the studios want to make a 5th Rambo regardless of how much it makes...good. I'd be more than happy to watch Rambo 5!! :word:

But going back to Jan releases...Cloverfield is doing really well. 27 dresses is doing really well. In fact, 27 dresses which has no real huge star power (in comparison to Sly) has done 45 mill domestically and 11.5 mill worldwide. Its release date was just a week before Rambo, so this is a good comparison. With no other real action movie out there for Rambo to compete with, the fact that Rambo has made so little IMO is a sign of something to worry about.

I agree about Jan releases not making as much money as summer, but then compare the Jan releases now or previous yrs to how much Rambo is making to get a true side by side comparison.

I am just saying that this movie could do better.

100 million? It doesn't need that much at all at the box office. DVD revenue will be pretty big for Rambo and it will help sell the other Rambo films as well. The franchise will warrant an extension of Sly is up for it. Still Rambo should do well overseas.

IMO if a movie like Rambo doesnt rake in 100 million worldwide in theatres, I'd consider it a failure. Not a flop, but a definate failure, esp considering what this franchise used to mean.

Yeah, there are other revenues for the movies, but if it cant reach $100 mil for a movie like this, thats pretty pathetic. Sorry, but it is.

I think it will make 100 million world wide easily. Sly has always been a bigger star overseas than here. His movies always do better worldwide.

Those movies also cost a ton more to make than Rambo. Rambo had a budget of $50 million; Die Hard 4 had a budget of $110 million; T3 had a budget of almost $200 million!

As long as it turns a profit, which it will, the studio is pleased.

Personally, I'm divided on whether or not I want another one. I think this one ended the series wonderfully, and I'm slightly worried if Sly can make lightning strike twice. But I might throw all that out the window if he delivers again with sheer carnage akin to this one; it was mindblowing.
