Lots of Trek talk going on round these boards lately, with good reason.
I don't think I've ever seen a ranking thread for the films, so with 11 films to play with, let's do that, and feel free to give your reasoning or assesment of each if you like.

It's been a while since I've seen anything listed below the "Great" category (those are the only ones I've owned..or intend to own), so I'm going by some old memories of how I felt upon seeing everything else , but I doubt time would change anything.

Have yet to see the new movie, but ....... here are the rest.

I love ALL Trek movies for different reasons and I honestly think the only REALLY poor effort was The Final Frontier.
The next Gen cast gave it a good go but for various reasons they never seemed to 'fit' the big screen.

 

[Warhammer]

Insurrection and Generations were more like extended TV episodes. First Contact was an actual film, and great at that. Nemesis was a poor movie that pretty much ripped off The Wrath of Khan in a few ways and was a horrible send off to the TNG cast.

Man, everybody hates The Final Frontier. It's been years since I've seen it, so maybe if I watched it today, I'd think it totally sucked, but I loved the movie back when I was a kid.

Anyway, I've never seen the TNG-only films (not a fan of that cast) so here's how I'd rank the films that I have seen:

Yes, it is. WOK is a great, great film don't get me wrong. And I would have to say that Khan is still the best Trek bad guy. But Star Trek is just such a fantastic film... it gets pretty much everything right. And the visuals are so stunning they push an already awesome film over the edge into Kickeverythingelse'sassland.

You should really give First Contact a chance. I'd still say it's in the top 3 Trek films.

Yeah, I probably will. I always thought that The Borg were pretty cool. Just never got into the TNG cast.

I don't remember the first one, Search for Spock or Insurrection enough to recall their quality. But if i had to guess, I remember finding them really boring and awful. Possibly the worst of the series, but 5-8 were all so bad, they could be somewhere in the middle of that pile of crap (no offense to Trekkies).

I think you forgot how good VI is, though. It's actually pretty great and definitely can't be called a "bad" movie even if you aren't into Star Trek.

Am I the only one who has issues with The Voyage Home?

I mean, yes, it's a fun movie, but really... in terms of actual story (not dialogue or characters, but actual plot), I think that movie was as lazy as it gets. The crew goes back in time to... um... bring a whale back so that it can talk to a probe. Uh... what? I think Bones even has a line where he acknowleges how absurd the whole thing is.

The plot was nothing more than an excuse for the original cast to bumble around the present day (well, what was then the present day) and act silly.
