I loved Hammond's Spider-Man. I also loved that the 90's animated series totally used him as a model for their Peter Parker.

And yeah, Hammond was way cool. When I was a kid, I thought he was the perfect Peter Parker. I liked that it was kind of a spy experience a lot of the time - or that's how I remember it anyway. It's been aaaages. But it struck me as less corny than the live action Batman I was stuck with (but still ended up enjoying) at the time, and so my little 8 year old self took it seriously and I got into character with my Spidey pajamas whenever it would come on.

If they address Spidey getting a new costume in this film, then this would be my theory on how it could be addressed.

Basically after what happened with Lizard, Peter needed a new costume only this time Gwen designs and makes the new costume for Pete, so when she dies, he decides to keep the design forever in memory of her...

They could make it seem that Peter couldn't see properly and wanted a more wide angle view and wanted to get a more intimidating look with the raised webbing.

Or maybe even could be to make himself look different from copy cats..

I think the only believable reason would be that Peter was allergic to the last costume's materials so he had to make a new one

which would also be a nice reference to Andrew who really had a problem with the costume material

I'd accept it if the TASM suit was just wrecked in a fight beyond repair, against Rhino maybe at the start of the film

Electro shreds the first suit so Peter makes a brand new suit and the raised webbing negates the electricity. Ha ha!

I wouldn't mind seeing Peter explain the change either. Though I think it could be easily done with just him saying he refined the suit. We know the webshooters are going to be different so it's not going to stretch the imagination to say he changed the suit a bit as well.

The red part covering the torso is still the more slender design, but now finishes in an all round belt as well as still having the elongated spider symbol. Also, to be fair, most of those other features were bad design choices. Few people cared for them. So I don't really see the problem with them distancing themselves away from them.

The suit isn't a retread of the Raimi films, despite its similarities. It does have its own flourishes too. Some from the ASM suit and some new. Credit should be given where it's due and not simply crying it's lazy because some preferred a design that was further from the source material.

I like the suit, but my criticisms are that I don't like the the big eyes, it makes the suit look more childish, makes Spiderman look a preteen (13 yrs. old). Just put Justin Bieber in the suit! I don't like the darker red, I don't like the heals on the boots as well. I don't like the shiny red material.

Watch after I see the trailers I'll end up changing my tune on the suit.

That happened to me with the TASM suit. After seeing the trailers and film, it became my favourite costume.

So until I see the suit in action, properly lit etc, my opinion on it is not final. Right now, I'm not a big fan. But hey, this may be another TASM moment lol

Well, it proves that they slapped better eyes and the TASM-style spider on a Raimi costume.
