Yeah, seriously, is this thread still here? I mean, didn't Snyder say it would be R?

Snyder has gone on record saying that he won't do anything but an R-Rated film. So that should be the end of it. And I highly doubt WB will give him a $150 million budget. Just read that interview he did:

http://www.wizarduniverse.com/movies/other/004754626.cfm

With his all demands for this Watchmen flick, they won't give him the budget he wants, even though 300 was a major success. WB will still be reluctant.
Yeah, I got that wizard issue free at Wizard World philly. It had much info on watchmen. I really think he could milk 120 mill but that is about it.

There is a chance that WB could "Fox" it up and get a PG-13 if they feel that it can be more kid friendly. We know that's not the case, but you know how the studios are.

I just read Watchmen this year, and I loved it. I definently want R. But there is no argument because it will be R. But why will it be R? Now that we can discuss.

It will be R because it's violent, disturbing, has a very mature theme, animal abuse, muder, and homosexuality. The don't need to make it kid friendly and they shouldn't.

I think only teens and up want to or did read it anyway. Why direct to a larger audience when half that larger audience doesn't know what the hell it is? Keep to the comic! That is why it won those awards!

Why does everyone keep mentioning homosexuality? I don't remember anything regarding that being in the book other than Rorschach implying that Ozymandias was gay and the lesbian activists...I don't think those things would be a reason to give the movie an R rating.

Yeah, but there are many more moments that call for an r-rating. Some of the events are just very dark. Like Hollis Mason's death or when Rorschach kills the pedophile and the dogs. Then there's the Comedian in Vietnam. Also, the Comedian raping Sally. Its not necessarily the imagery that calls for an R, its more the mature themes throughout the story that just aren't appropriate for 13 year olds. I just can't see a Watchmen film being done right with a pg-13 rating.

Agreed.. And Snyder has said so as much. And he pretty much loathes all other super hero movies, and seems to relish the idea of this film being "harder" than anything else out there.

Think about all this hoopla surrounding the new, fake Die Hard film. And while I don't think the F-bomb is dropped in the original "Watchmen" (I could be wrong, but haven't ever really noticed!) it is rife with images that will not only warrant an R-rating, but may even be pushing that particular envelope:

Innumerable, graphic acts of face-busting;
man tossed from violently from skyscraper;
itinerant foul-mouthery;
a massive, glowing-blue wang;
god-on-human sex;
gratuitous finger-breaking;
attempted super-rape;
rampant cigarette and cigar smoking;
murder-a-go-go;
shooting a pregnant Vietnamese woman in the stomach;
Manhattan napalming the crap out of groups of Vietnamese;
The Comedian " " " " " " " ";
Manhattan blowing up a dude's face;
the senseless, fatal gang-beating of an affable old man;
the senseless, violent stuffing of an octogenarian terminally ill with cancer in a refrigerator;
doggy butcherie;
arson-homicide;
electrocution-homicide;
shiv-to-jugular homicide;
RAFT OF CORPSES;
man ripped apart atom-by-atom;
depiction of a floating, human nervous system;
terrorism on an unthinkable scale as an act of salvation...

And this is just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. This is violent imagery on par with 300 -- only Watchmen has characters to develop, highly subversive ideas, and a story to tell.

You'd be very surprised how many people find even the slightest mention of homosexuality disturbing. They seem to think it's un-Godly activity.

Most likely it will have an R rating. I don't see a PG-13 with this one.

I'm silently waiting for the Watchman action figures from Toy Biz and the Doritos merchandising endorsements.

"Control Dr. Manhattan as he bombs the evil Viets!"

"Take that, Charlie!!"

Manhattan action figure and random Asian fodder sold separately.

LMFAO!!

To the point of this thread though....R.
Making it PG-13 would be a bigger slap to Alan Moores face than if they had to alter the ending or a scene or two

Lol, some poor fool voted PG13.

LOL, the only reason I would let that slide is if its because he is underage and would want to see it in theatres.

Wait, scratch that. I wouldn't let it slide. :cmad:

A toy labeled "Asian fodder"? And I fancied myself the source of the most offensive posts on this forum!

Is anyone with skills and kids up for making an 80s-inspired Watchmen action figure commercial? You know, where kids are placed in elaborate sets with their toys?

One kid has fists-full of Viet Cong; another kid has a ginormous blue god (think of those plush WWF dolls from the 80s) in his mits.
Kid 1, she dumps her stock of Viet Cong on the linoleum:
Keep your histrionic, imperial agenda out of our jungles! Your technological might is no match for our guerilla tactics, oriental cunning, and sheer numbers! And considering that the ideal of the individual has yet to reveal itself within the context of our cultural and intellectual heritage, our savage, brazen tactics in the war theater -- while seemingly crude -- will reflect those of a determined people who have nothing to lose!
Kid 2, in a god-like intonation:
There is no difference between hundreds of thousands of living natives and hundreds of thousands of dead natives. They are the same number of particles.
KID 1 brandishes a zippo and a gawdy, pressurized canister of hair-spray, and instantly does an impromptu napalm-routine on the toy Viet-fodder.
KID 1 and KID 2 squeal with delight.

ENTER DAD IN SPANDEX-SUIT, TOWELING OFF HIS SWEAT-DRENCHED BROW WHILE CHUGGING SAN PELIGRINO WITH WELL-DESERVED GUSTO.
Dad:
What's goin' on, kids?
Kid 1 and Kid 2 opposite each other, simultaneously facing Dad like a shifting Rorschach blot:
Playing Watchmen!
CUT TO smoldering Vietnamese.
Dad (O.S.)
Sounds cool! How do you play?
CUT TO KIDS.
Kid 2, incredulously:
You already played. In Baghdad. When I was born!
PAN TO MOM, in kitchen, struggling with one of those Oscar Meyer packages of bologna. She is attempting to separate the cylindrical, plastic container from the flat cardboard packing. It's proving to be difficult, while:
V.O .
Each sold separately. Vietnamese napalm-fodder sold in burlap sacks by the pound.
