Justice League Ray Fisher Is Victor Stone/Cyborg

Reshoots to lighten up the Cyborgs story.

So WB basically want to make an anemic four-quadrant crap out of this film. Thank you very much, you ******* ************s.

Damn these people wanting to make a Justice League movie that kids can enjoy!
Damn them I say!

If they sacrifice the original creative vision for the sake of making it more palatable for kids, then yes.

I actually agree to a degree.

But the idea of a bunch of suits sitting around a desk making a Justice League movie, and not considering that they might want children to enjoy it, confuses me.

They have already said JL would be more inclusive for the younger audience, because of having a character like Flash there.

I remember Flash was my favourite DC character as a kid.

Yes that's fine.

I was taking grievance with the above comment that made out like making Justice League a 'movie for the whole family' to somehow be a stupid decision.

Yeah I think the issue/fear is that they are trying to do this retroactively as a reactionary thing, like they did with Suicide Squad. That almost never works out.

I grew up on films like Predator with all those c*nt jokes and skinned people hanging from trees. And I enjoyed that film tremendously. (Lol, that sounds awkward in this context.) You don't have to make Cyborg's story less dark for kids to come. You'll just end up with less interesting and engaging watered-down version. I can't understand people don't see any problem in that.

Again, yes I agree that that is a perfectly fine concern.
If there initial director wanted a darker take on the DC universe, and WB are now getting cold feet and trying to change things after the fact, fair enough.

But I read the original complaint as someone who just doesn't want DC to be for 'all four quadrants' otherwise it is 'anemic'.

I'm quite happy for people to worry about studios messing with director's original visions, but I didn't read the initial comment like that.

Wonder woman had the perfect tone. Anything less I'd be very disappointed. Very.

Cyborg has always been one of my least favorite characters. Very boring to me and never really felt needed. He looks great in this though. I love his look and like how bad a** he looks and I hope he knocks it out the park. Fisher looks to be great for the role and I like how he seems ready for battle and not just in the background like in some versions I see. Bring on this movie now!

Honestly dude... can you really blame them? After the reaction Batman V. Superman got are you really surprised WB wants to tone down the grim dark super-serious nature of Zack Snyder's direction and make the movie more "fun"?

Cyborg has always been kind of a quippy one-liner type of character in everything I've seen the character in (BOYYAHH!!!). Why are we complaining they are moving the character more into what he's traditionally been?

Cyborg has not been a quippy one liner type character, neither in new 52 nor in Rebirth or any modern comics. That reputation comes from the teen titans show. He is a fairly serious character in the comics, and thats the way it should be initially because he is still adjusting to the fact that he had his life and half his body taken away from him in an horrific accident.

You need to read up on the character more.

Why would I want to read or watch stories about Cyborg being brooding and mopey about his condition? I just want him to do cool robot **** and say BOYAHHH and have an attitude. If I want to read or watch superhero stories about brooding heroes I already got Batman for that.

Which version of Cyborg do you think the mass audience would be more familiar with? The one from Teen Titans cartoons and video games like Injustice, or the super serious broody guy from the comics that no one really reads? So it obviously makes sense that they would make Ray Fishers portrayal of the character more in line with what the mass audience is familiar with (and would prefer, in all honesty).

i want my ray fisher cyborg to go through his alex murphy arc and rediscover his humanity in the end.

star labs ceo: "nice plasma cannon son. what's your name?"

cyborg: "stone." *slight smile to his face and walks away*

he can say BOYAHHH later on in sequels or in a scene within the right context.
bring a good balance between the serious one and the fun-loving version.

Yep. Cyborg wasn't really the type to be joyful all the time about his condition.

I was gonna say "Transformers"; the MCU is a little better than that...

But yeah...smh.

lol I dont care if you want to read or watch serious stories about Cyborg.

What you said was :

Cyborg has always been kind of a quippy one-liner type of character

Which is simply not true.

Also its telling that the only way you seem to look at the character is surface level trivial details like "DARK BROODING" or "QUIPPY/FUNNY". Cyborg is a much more complex character than the ones you want to pigeonhole him into. He is a character who is always conflicted over his man/machine duality, and tries to remain human. He initially rejects his new form, and doesnt want it, as he sees himself be this "monster", but comes to recognise his powers as a gift and not a curse. And there's also this parallel of him being the "other", which is a metaphor for the minorities in our society. So I'm glad the filmmakers understand what this character is about, and actually give proper respect the character deserves. Ray Fisher said it himself :

"He's a very real and grounded character and that's something I found very interesting to bring to the table. I love the cartoon, but this is a different Cyborg, for a new era."

So all this "MAKE IT QUIPPY AND FUN" bs....Keep it.

This is ridiculous. A young guy nearly dies, wakes up to find that that vast majority of his body has been obliterated and replaced with alien machinery...and you think he should just crack jokes?

Some of you guys are willing to sacrifice any semblance of real human emotion just to get to the quips.

^ this scene from the robocop 2014 remake is pretty much what cyborg goes through.

heartbreaking.
some good acting here by kinnaman and oldman.

feels like what a person would really go through emotionally if they were turned into a machine like that.

i doubt JL's cyborg would go this deep, but we'll get a bit of this since joe morton's interview mentions that victor's resentment towards his father in the comics has carried a bit over into the movie.

Why would I do that, slightly thinning hair man?

If I am ever in the mood for really awful movies with CGI explosions and badly written dialogue, I can just go watch Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad again.

You say the filmmakers understand what the character is about? By filmmaker I assume you mean Zack Snyder? If you want to talk about seeing things on a superficial level then he's the poster child of that.

He is the 90's Image artist of movie directors. You really trust him to give us a complex Cyborg? He couldn't even understand Batman and Superman on anything more than a one-dimensional level. I am certainly not going to trust him with Cyborg.

I don't want Cyborg to be a one-dimensional character. What I ALSO don't want is two hours of a superhero character whining and moping, because that would get just as old and just as monotonous as every word out of his mouth being a quip. Too much of anything gets old, no matter what it is.

This is ridiculous. A young guy nearly dies, wakes up to find that that vast majority of his body has been obliterated and replaced with alien machinery...and you think he should just crack jokes?

Let me ask you a question, Da Scribe. If they didn’t reshoot Cyborg’s scenes to add levity to his character and kept his (if the rumors are to be believed) original humorless incarnation, would that really be so much better than if he cracked jokes all the time? Isn’t too much of anything bad?

You guys don't get it. I am not afraid of character complexity. I am afraid of badly done attempts at character complexity, like a character who has a stoic expression for the duration of a movie and never shows any real emotion beyond stoic (like Superman in BvS). Is that you guys idea of character complexity? Because that seems very one-dimensional to me.
