Funny, Alex Smith has one somewhat decent season where the team is carried by their defense and running game and now he's an expert on what it takes to win games.

"This is the honest truth: I could absolutely care less on yards per game," Smith said Wednesday,

*sigh*

He's not too good with the English language either, it seems. Unless he does actually care about 300 yard stat lines and the whole article is a misrepresentation of his stance?

Look, if he wanted to he could care less, but right now he doesn't care enough to care less.

Being the NFL quarterback that his team has to win in spite of, there's something to be proud of Alex.

He has a point about the 300-yd stat line. It can be both good and bad, but isnt needed in order to win.

But it certainly helps. Smith's team wins games. Alex Smith does not. In fact, if they had a QB who converted more than 1 of 13 first down conversions, they'd probably be Super Bowl champions today.

There were 10 QBs last year who threw for 4,000 yards or more. 7 made it to the Playoffs. 2 others were 8-8 and missed the playoffs by 1 game. And the last was Cam on a rebuilding team.

I mean wins are more important than stats, but let's not forget he was still SF's second choice after his "breakout" season.

There arent many teams that wouldn't take a healthy Manning over there present QB. Moot point.

During the whole Peyton Manning sweepstakes, Shefter reported that about 12 teams kicked the tires on him.

Miami (Moore), Arizona (Kolb), Seattle (Jackson), Washington (Grossman), Kansas City (Cassel), San Francisco (Smith), Denver (Tebow), New York (Sanchez), Tennessee (Hasselback), Houston (Schaub)

Guessing the other 2 teams might have been Jacksonville (Gabbert) and Cleveland (McCoy)

Point being, outside of Schaub, the rest of the QBs were "average" or "near their expiration date" and that 20 teams that wouldn't take Manning.

Nick Fairley got arrested again. 2nd time in two months.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested for the second time this offseason early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence and attempting to elude police, Fox10TV.com reported.
The Alabama State Troopers told Fox10TV.com that Fairley was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. in Mobile, Ala.

Fairley was also ticketed for reckless driving, having an open container and no proof of insurance, the report said. Fox10TV.com said Fairley posted $1,750 bond and was released shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday.

LOL at Alex Smith.

While it is true that many QBs end up passing for more yards because they are trying to play catch-up in the last quarter and win the game, his logic is still faulty. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady passed for a boatload of yards last season, and they won a lot of games.

Maybe Alex should rephrase a bit and say that when mediocre quarterbacks are forced to throw more, they tend to lose games. You know, quarterbacks like him.

Alex Smith has no credibility to say anything. He's the same player who decided to explore other options after Niners didn't accept his multi-year contract demands, then in the end (after Niners lost in the Payton Manning sweepstake) he went back because he couldn't find any team who would want him, and accept their terms for the new contract. If it weren't for Niners I doubt he would've still get to stay in the NFL after 7 years or even be a starting QB.

I have a few 49ers fans in general who are pumping there chest after one good season and yet they think adding an over the hill moss and keeping a mediocre qb will get them over the hump.....

I've been on a bunch of the NFL.com, stories and the amount of comments from 49er fans how Smith is going to prove ALL the haters wrong this year and how this is the year of the 49ers, etc.

Of course I remember the Jets fans were like this after their first and second AFC Championship appearance.

How quickly they've forgotten that they were his biggest haters.

I mean the guy was a 1st round bust essentially until harbaugh showed up and he "came" alive in the saints games thanks to there soft defense. If he does it again 2 more seasons in a row then Im a bliever. Heck Im the biggest ravens fan but atleast flacco has pulled his weight from time to time.

I sure hope he enojyed getting bent over the desk by harbaugh, the gm and the owner when he went back to sign after payton gave them the snub.
