What a load. Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Ben Roethlisberger....they all got off a hell of a lot easier than people in their same exact situations without the fame and money would have. Spare me the sob story....lots of people have it a lot worse than these entitled punks and they don't go around killing people, raping girls or torturing dogs.
Plus, the whole idea of playing football equating to redemption is an equally large load of ****.
It truly is a sad fact, but ironically, it kinda works both ways. Just look at OJ. Whether you believe he did it or not, he had money and could afford Cochran to get him off of murder charges. But many years later, he didn't have money and got arrested for tax evasion charges.
For a lot less time than a regular joe would have. Then he gets a multimillion dollar contract on the first day out. Yeah, he got off easy.
You know, Vick did do some jail time, and a lot of people thought his career would be over. But the reason why he was able to get a contract was because there were still people out there who felt like he could make them a lot of money, and he did for a while with the Eagles, even though they never won a championship with him.
I never made any of the points you accused me of making. I agree all those people got off easier because of their societal role as famous athletes. I'm just saying it's worth taking a look at the context, and seeing that he did change as a person as a result. The crime was not doing anything when your buddy's start hurting somebody and they end up dead - I'm not sure how many people react well in that circumstance when it's their buddies, and his upbringing plays a HUGE role in that. Instead of focusing on the negative of something he really didn't do, but failed to react, take the positive. If he'd killed the person it would be a different story, and although I've heard some rumors to that effect, I've never seen any evidence of it. The Vick scenario is similar - a disgusting crime, but was a victim of the culture he was raised in. He did his time, and was able to come back a changed man and played some great football. Neither are perfect role models, but there is good to take from their stories. What a load. Yeah, from a football standpoint, taking on Vick was a huge risk in terms of team performance and publicity. In hindsight, yeah, I get it. One could say he got off easy and there's no denying that he got less time in jail due to him being a celebrity, but he was done after he got out of prison. However, he had no foreseeable future in the NFL and was bankrupt. If it wasn't for Andy Reid, Vick would still be a nobody right now.
Then again, in 2011, Sanchez was the highest paid QB.![]()

Last year it was Dwight Freeney.

Yep, it's quite possibly the biggest gamble of Andy Reid's career. The tragic thing is, due to that offensive line (as well as that defense), Vick partially ended up costing Reid his job.
That has to be the worst O-Line I've seen. Vick hikes the ball and then has to immediately start running his ass off to avoid the sack.
Chicago Bears.
Those offensive lines are ridiculous. I will always feel that Vick and Newton have been unfairly criticized due to their offensive lines (among other things, of course but the OL is near the top of those lists). To be honest, I'm surprised Aaron Rodgers had the season he's had after all the times he's gotten sacked.
Imma be like Goodell.Your class: Former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Larry Allen, former coach Bill Parcells, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter, Baltimore Ravens tackle Jonathan Ogden, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp.Erzengel said:Who gets in?
I say Parcells, Strahan, Carter, Allen, Ogden and Haley.

4 out of 6, not bad.
Carter can quit complaining now.
Bettis and Strahan should've both gotten in this year.
Congratulations to the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Parcells, Ogden, Allen, Carter and Sapp. Enjoy the well deserved honor
