Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 1

Flashpoint is a bad idea. People didn't turn up to a Justice League movie, what makes anyone think they'll show up for the "soft reboot" movie. You don't need a movie to address changes in the universe.

People didn't turn up to the movie also because the WB/DC PR department handled the whole reshoot situation wrong and poorly IMO. They went a head and let everyone say anything about the rumors regarding the whole state of the movie and situation and did nothing to step in and help clear things up.

Yeah, this film has had bad vibes surrounding it since March 2016, and they never really got on top of it.

I suppose, if I had a say, I would make another superman film with Cavill, with a director like Ron Howard or Peter jackson or brad bird.

Here is the kicker. It wouldn't be in the same universe is the previous films, but its not an origin either.

He would have already been superman for 7/10 years, and would have already faced threats like metallo, parasite etc.

This would be a strictly earthbased film with an earthbased threat. Bryan Cranston would be Lex.

This Superman loves having powers, loves helping, even if and when its little things.
He is confident and friendly and still has both of his adopted parents.
He has his fos, that he built himself, and he likes collecting things, so it looks like a sci fi museum.

magog would be the villain. He kills villains without remorse, says superman's day has passed. No more boy scout ways in dealing with bad guys he tells the world, kinda like superman vs the elite.

IF something like that still doesn't work, then I don't know.

But, you HAVE to get a director that gets and understands superman and will not change him to just suit the modern times and tastes, they change from year to year.
Superman has existed for as long as he has because people love him just the way he is
Stop trying to reinvent the damn wheel.

If they do Flashpoint right, and not on a crazy budget, it could get good word of mouth, and people could show up.

It can reset the timeline, could show the reversing of MoS and BvS, WW wouldn't be impacted as it took place prior to Flashpoint events, and then show the broken Flashpoint world, then reset back. Showing things differently like Superman saving his father, his father realizing he should be saving people, so he becomes a hero much earlier. Then when Zod shows up years later he's got the hero thing down, stops Zod without snapping his neck, so no Doomsday, no death of Superman, no Steppenwolf.

It could show Batman saving Robin from joker, so he doesn't start branding people like some murderous psycho.

It could show Wonder Woman following Superman's example and being more prominent in the world, and them all coming together as a team so when Barry comes back there's still the league but it's not all lord darkity dark of the darkness League.

Then preview Darkseid on Apokolips going all Thanos grabbing the Gauntlet saying he'll do it himself to get the Mother Boxes, setting the stage for JL2

Really? A movie featuring the same cast as a Justice League film that is flopping at the box office? You think people will turn up for that?

The GA don't care. They don't like what they've been served up, and serving up more is just asking for another flop.

Flashpoint is dead.

Agree, Flashpoint would require the audience to be invested in the current characters and universe - because those are the stakes.

If you're a WB executive and JL is at risk of losing millions of dollars, is this really a risk you're willing to take at this point in time?

That's the problem we're now in. WB is not going to look at these properties based on their potential anymore. Everything is now going to be judged by how risky it is. Expect them to become gun-shy with a lot of these DC properties.

Yup.

Flash movie is dead. Cyborg movie is dead. Superman with Cavill is probably dead. Wonder Woman 2 probably okay. Aquaman is in a lot of trouble. Batman in this DCEU universe is dead.

A Justice League film may struggle to go over 600 million at the box office.

This is at the point of scorched earth policy. No-one should be in any doubt that this is a possibility.

I get it's under a lot of pressure because it HAS to be great now, but what trouble?

I just don't know how you move forward with Cavill and Affleck at this point. Cavill has been the face of a franchise that has been nothing but diminishing returns, and Affleck has been internally screaming "I WANT OUT" for months. Hell, I'm not even sure Ezra Miller or Ray Fisher are safe at this point, as their only association with the DCEU has been this trainwreck of a movie.

Momoa has the benefit of a solo film in post-production, so he gets to stick around for the time being. Only Gal Gadot is truly safe right now, because she's been proven to work.

Affleck has gotta go. I can't handle his whining anymore on top of other things. Many actors would kill for this gig.

It's a movie that stars a character who's last outing is likely to be a massive box office flop.

Hopefully, we're looking at a Wonder Woman situation again, where it succeeds, despite following directly on from a movie that failed... but the law of diminishing returns may suggest Aquaman might struggle a little more.

Will audiences turn out for this particular Aquaman, when they didn't turn out for his last appearance?

The saving grace here is that Arthur isn't the main draw of Justice League.

If Wan divorces the film from Justice League as much as possible, it might be okay, but I worry that the BvS/JL taint might be too strong this time around.

At least they have a year to play with.

I don't thinks it's in trouble at all, though I'm nervous over Heard now based on her cameo here.

I liked her work but I really wish she wasn't playing the part. I am really trying to like this girl but every other week there's new off putting story about her. But hopefully at least she delivers good performance

They'd be better off focusing on a Teen Titans universe where they can appeal to the Hunger Games demograph

I think Aquaman may be able to ride the initial wave of a novelty concept (underwater action/adventure film). It's not something you see every day, so that could work in its favor opening weekend. Its legs will depend entirely on how good of a movie it is, though. Wan seems to have a good grip on things, so I remain pretty optimistic about that film.

So maybe they should rethink the Movies/TV shows are separate and do some TV to Movie shows with the casts of Supergirl/Flash/Arrow/Legends/Constantine/Black Lightning...Batman/Superman? Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice

All of that won't matter if the film is genuinely good and critics and audiences like it. Which hopefully is what is going to happen.

Whoa, whoa, where are you getting this idea about WW2 and Aquaman? Warners is going full steam ahead on Wonder Woman 2 and Aquaman wrapped filming several weeks ago. Shazam is moving to start production in February.

Stop the fear mongering, please.

Oh goodness no.... Superman on the Supergirl show looks like a guy in cosplay. He looks like he's swimming in his costume for some reason, and is smaller than everyone else. I don't horribly mind the rest, but I don't want to give up Ezra's Flash either. The only part that I think the movies should adopt is Gotham's Wayne murder sequence. David Masouz did such a compelling version of young Bruce's reaction to the tragedy, I cannot see it any other way now. I literally cringe when I see that moptop boy act the role in BvS.

Fear mongering? These are comic book movies, not Kim Jong Un.

Nothing right now is full steam ahead. Nothing.

Aquaman will get a release, and will hopefully be good, and I'm sure Wonder Woman 2 is proceeding... but WB will not be full steam ahead on any DC projects for a long time to come.

Justice League making about 600 million threatens everything that isn't already in the can.

WW2 is literally the only DCEU movie that hasn't shot which is likely to go ahead anymore.

The CGI in the movie looks cheap because of how rushed it was. I mean think about it you reshoot a whole movie and have to have everything including CGI completed in 3 months of course it will look bad.

You thought Joss reshot the whole film? :loco:

I'd say he used most of what he shot and used whatever Zack did that suited the narrative he created.

If I had to guess, the 2 hour run time was 50/50 at best between them.
