Reboot: Character Portrayal

A good guy in his own mind. Other than a villain like the Joker, that's the best kind.

That's true. I like the idea of Lex trying to do the right thing but feeling jealous of Supes for stealing his thunder so he tries to undermine him at every turn. Eventually he goes from jealous to full-blown evil. Well, something like that anyway.

If he doesn't start out as well-meaning but misguided he could just be an ordinary supervillain who gets mad at Superman for constantly foiling his criminal schemes. It's doable but predictable.

Looks like Smallville got something right then. I actually think the SV Lex is the best on screen version yet. Especially Rosenbaum's last 2 seasons :p

A lot of people say that. It almost makes me want to watch SV. Almost.

Rosenbaum may be playing a young Luthor but he is my favorite liveaction verison of the character...by a mile.

Yeah, I was thinking a while back how much better Rosenbaum was over Spacey.

He's the only thing I like about Smallville... not enough to make me watch it though, apparently.

totally michael i though was one of the best lex's.

He def did a great job as Lex, seeing him go from friend to just a complete bastard to Clark was one thing i thought was great about the show

yea that along with some other things over the years with smallville have been the good things the show has done. Yes there has been a bunch of silly plots/etc... over the years but overall its a good show. And you have to give it some props atless going as long as it has its the longest running "Superman" series and all that.

I cant make myself watch it anymore.
Freak(s) of the week and Lana dying (or almost dying) in every episode really turned me off.
Rosenbaum is what kept me interested for as long as I was.

Well the freak of the weeks/excess usage of kryptonite really started to get toned down alot around season 4. As for lana yea they never knew what the heck to do with her character. I hated lana's character since season 3 period. But other stuff like the kent family dynamics from season 1-5, friendship/hatred with lex, the various future heroes and other stuff have been some of the good things on the show.

I agree GKT.

I'd like to add that I did enjoy the Kents a whole lot. I liked that they were young and I like the actors portrayal.

As much as I bash Smallville, it actually did have it's good points.

I loved the younger kents, absolutely loved them. I really liked Lionel Luthor as well. And Lex was the bomb, but...........

Clark and Lana being on, then off, then on, no off, wait.......i'm dizzy again.

The thing is, imo, they have dragged it on waaaaaay longer than they should have. I wish my teen yrs had lasted as long as his have.

anywho, in the spirit of the threads topic, bring on a kicka$$ Dark villain like Darkseid.

I forgot about Lionel! I'll see your "really like" and raise you "love." Glover is the man.

Back on topic:

I love Darkseid but I don't want him right now.

I'd love Brainiac in the first film.

Brainiac and Lex form a partnership and try to take down supes. After the huge fight(s) that we all know are coming, we discover that Brainiac was sent to earth by Darkseid to ''test'' the earth's defenses.

^I'd dig that.

IMHO, something like that would be the only way to do it. Darkseid is larger than life and thrusting him into the first film just for the sake of it, would be a mistake. He would need to be eased into it gradually.

I'd like his presence felt in the first, show him in the 2nd, and have him and supes go at it in the 3rd. (that is, if we even get another 1st film)

Yea one last smallville comment here i agree the lana/clark relationship was one of the wrost things the show did.

Darkseid i would love to see him make it into the live action world. He could probably be done very well though story wise they would probably have to condense some aspects of his world/new gensis and all that.

Id leave New Genesis out, unless they wanted to somehow tie Krypton, New Genesis, and Apolkolips in togeather.....Maybe have Brainiac be the reason Krypton was destroyed, but like I mentioned earlier, he works for Darkseid now...

that could work out. Personally if u were to do darkseid in a film series it would be nice to have his whole story with new genesis and all that. But they could always just hint at new genesis stuff but all we see/get is apolkolips.

IMO, this next film will be make or break it time for Superman on film and they know it. Thats why I have a feeling they'll pull out the stops for it.
If this film does average/below expections at the B.O., then forgetaboutit for a looooong time.

It's more than a feeling.

I still say they shouldn't spend more than 155-160mil on it.
