The Amazing Spider-Man Reboot composer?

I'm holding out to see it and hear it within the context fo the entire film. Maybe the overall tone will change my mind. But even from the preview it was the one track that stuck out like a sore thumb, so I'm not hopeful.

Piece of **** music in basketball clip?! LOL, God, I can't...... Incredible, the score fits perfectly, and I don't know, saying that it is a piece of **** is either ignorance or provocation.

Or opinion and personal taste? Or did you miss the post where I offered my opinion on all the samples and I loved the vast majority of the track?

Saying this sample is a piece of **** is false. You might not like it, but it's not ****, that's it.

I'm calling it a piece of s**t because I don't like it. You wanna go into semantics, really? I'm not stopping you from loving it.

It's not the same thing. It's not semantics, then say "I don't like it", and not "it's a piece of sh it", it's just not the same meaning.

Oh, really? So, if you've liked something from this production (or any production for that matter) haven't you said "It's amazing", and if you've seen a movie you hated, haven't you said "It was bad/crap/whatever"? Do you say "I like it" or "I don't like it" about every thing you see?

my analysis from the basketball clip and the 10min score sample mix:

The score is very old school, and not only from the way it sounds but the way it works in the context. I mean, the feel of it is almost like from an old Spielberg movie like "Jurassic Park" or "Hook" if you know what I mean. And to me, that's a very cool thing. I assume that most of us waited for a Zimmer's Batman type score or something else typical modern stuff, so to hear this is quite confusing (especially when the trailers gave something different).

But as I said, it's a good thing, at least in my opinion. It was a very brave thing from them to try something like this and I actually prefer this over the Hans Zimmer Batman score (which was my favorite score until now). Not only that the score gives me nostalgic feelings, but how it works in modern context makes it something truly special to me!

if I had to give a rating I would give the score 9.8/10

The biggest mistake they could've made was to approach the music the Hans Zimmer way. So I agree with you. I also agree that the music for the trailers made me get used to an electronicky/hipster vibe they gave me and the fact that it's classical music is very encouraging.

Your observation, along with this new Dutch review is starting to make me think the marketing for this movie might've dropped the ball.

From what I could hear at the Japanese screening, the main theme sounds brilliant! Much better than I thought after hearing the previews.

When I heard Horner was hired I knew we weren't going to get a Zimmer-esque score. Thank goodness. Horner doesn't write that kind of music. If TPTB wanted him to take that approach. I believe Horner would've walked. Cause it's not like he needs this project anyway. But I agree I'm glad that Webb and co. had sense in hiring an old school film composer and not some Zimmer-clone. You can hear Zimmer's style and technique in almost every blockbuster movie these days it's almost depressing. I'm glad TAS-M (as well as the Raimi trilogy) didn't convert to that type of music. I just hope MOS can escape it as well.

If you or anyone else is interested, I suggest listening to this 47 minute interview with Horner, done back in February 2010.

http://www.dp30.com/media/2010/sound/jameshornersound.mp3

When it came out it was also a video, but the video file is very large (2 GB) and this mp3 is just the audio track of the video so there's nothing to be missed by just listening rather than watching.

It was done to promote "Avatar" but they really don't talk a lot about the film compared to talking a lot about the film industry, the importance (and praise) of John Williams' Star Wars scores and how that kind of film music is no longer in fashion, how affordable it will be to shoot professional 3D movies in the near future for a fraction of the cost, music written by non-musicians thanks to computer software, nightclub DJs and how restrictive it is to write a melody in a film score.

It's a fantastic interview, and Horner doesn't take sides on the issues much, just lays it out there for people to make up their own minds.

He mentions movies like Iron Man and Spider-Man and how he's not at all interested in those kinds of films because they don't offer a chance to write much in the way of melodic music. His comments resonate far more now than at the time, considering what's coming in less than a month to theaters!

I *loved* the sample from Promises/End Credits. I love the spots where you can hear cues popping in for what is Horner's Spidey theme. You can hear some of it in the police chase clip when Spidey is swinging away as well. I like his Spidey theme a lot, very different from Raimi's but still Spidey. A lot of the samples are pretty eh right now, though.

This theme sounds like something you could easily hum, easier than Elfman's theme.

No....I like Elfmans theme better. The Horner one doesn't really have the hook for me, maybe i need to hear it more.

Once again, just because it's a film score, does not mean it will leak. There are tons of film scores EVER that havent been leaked, or are still unreleased completely.

Just be patient, and listen to SM1/2/3's score...cause it's 10001399484098 times better. :oldrazz:

The comments about the TDKR samples....only Zimmer nuts could come up with such ridiculousness.

It's interesting, how different people are about things like this.

This score is going against the convention of what's in fashion today, and is being written off or dismissed, all based on some 30 second samples strung together.

TDKR, 30 second samples and they're all hailed as the greatest thing ever conceived of, and all of the things people dump on Horner for are seen as brilliant by Zimmer.

There's something about Zimmer that does that to people. Clearly I don't feel it, never have. I mean I love the Batman scores as much as the next but it's just so over-the-top and in many ways, hypocritical.

I'm already preferring this over Elfman's score, even though, I really did like Elfman's score. I mean, I prefer Elfman's earlier work over what he did on the Spidey franchise, as his Spidey music felt to me like watered down versions of his previous stuff, but I'll never NOT get chills whenever those strings play over the opening logos/titles in those movies.

What I LOVE about this one is that it sounds like Horner's gotten a whole new life to his music that we haven't heard from him in over a decade. It would appear the film hit that sweet spot of inspiration that he's been in desperate need of for a while now, and I just love that this has its own sound and recognizable theme(s) that are so....fresh. Especially for James Horner, who I'm sure I've bashed on these boards at some point for being the worst of the self-plagiarizers in the big-name composer arena, because that's been my general opinion of him for years. This score is completely subverting my expectations.

I totally agree

I always got chills from Elfman's theme (in a good way), but Horner's score is just perfect for this movie

Doesn't mean it wont though, I'm in no rush either way.

SM1/2/3 score >>> tho? I mean I still listen to a few tracks here and there, but I think that this will surpass it. I've listened to the 10 min sampler too much, hahah.

Imo, yes. Hell, I think Young's SM3 score is one of the finest out there. He brought the themes to life better than elfman did (not that I dislike elfman's).
However, I do have this on pre-order, so don't think I'm just bashing it to boot. :cwink:
