Red Steel Review

The Wii shouldn't fetch much on ebay. Unlike Sony, Nintendo didn't **** up their manufacturing, they'll have units on shelves before Christmas.

That's what spite is :o

No, doing something out of spite is doing something to defy someone else and/or piss them off. There's a difference between just not wanting something anymore, and wanting to spite someone else.

Well if you're giving up the Wii might as well make a few hundred dollars. I know it was before launch but I saw one (with Zelda and two more controllers) go for almost $1000 two days ago.

What you could do is buy your Wii then smash it outside the store you bought it like some guy did with his PS3.

Red Steel always seemed sort of bad. The game could have been awesome if it was designed well and the sword fighting actually worked as something other then a timing game. I'm not suprised that it has been getting so so reviews or that the game looks a lot worse then what Ubisoft showed off prior. From screenshots to video Ubisoft isn't the most reliable company in terms of visual truthfullness, though they are much more suttle about it and talented at it then EA.

Playing Red Steel in a couple of minutes. I'll post my impressions tomorrow.

So anyone actually own this game yet? I'm still waiting on IGN's verdict.

I own it. I'll post my impressions tomorrow. Baseball tonight.

Well, I think it's a good game.

Now you all should buy it.

Looks awesome in level design and lighting, the character models are bland and simple though.

The gameplay should be amazing, but it is just ackward. It is very fun, but you spend over the first hour struggling to get adjusted with them. ONce you do it is a fun experience but about halfway through I realized....this would be a lot easier with dual analog sticks. Something the Wii should say no too (and COD3 seems to do and Metroid Prime 3 will) but if they were it would be much easier and boring.

It is kind of like an arcade game but the controls needed an overhaul in that the sensitivity could be lowered and the turning system be analog based. If they could at least give a centered motion so that you don't accidently look at the ceilling when you get shot would be nice.

Still quite fun, and the environments are very pretty and fun. Also, I LOVE the sword fighting. Some don't, but I think the sword fighting is the best part of the game.

I would give it a 7.5. For the record IGN gave it a 6.0 though.

The sword play is a little odd... the aiming is really sensitive, but I don't feel like changing it :o

I played an hour and a half or so of this game, and I thought it was pretty good. I don't think it's bad, but I don't think it's great. The controls are a pain in the ass getting used to, and there are times where my remote doesn't get sensed for a split second which is really annoying, but once you get used to it, it's actually pretty cool.

And I don't mind using the remote for changing the direction you look because they have you start turning when you reached the left... about 1/4 of the screen, instead of waiting until your pointer is all the way to the left (or up, down, right) like I initially thought. I'll probably end up buying it sometime. The one major thing I don't like (and can't say I blame them for it though) is when your fighting with swords, you can't move (is it like this for multiplayer too or...?)

And also, how is multiplayer? I still have not tried that out yet.

Yup, whatever were the Gamespot reviewers thinking giving an average game an average score? They are like, totally hating on the Wii, dude. :o

Sorry, still hate Gamespot :(

Alright, my impressions, just played for about 2 hours.

This game is awesome. It looks pretty good on composite cables, though some textures are pretty bland and a few jaggies need smoothing out. It's also pretty dark in some parts, but that doesn't bother me much. My only gripe about the graphics are really that some things are just really bland. I'd definitely say it's a great start for the Wii in graphics, as it's marginally better than a Gamecube game.

And there's the controls. Well, I played like **** for the first ten minutes. After that, I started getting the hang of it, and bumped it up from low sensitivity to medium sensitivity. Now it works great. I'm going to have to disagree about the controls with some people. They work amazingly well. There's no way I could blast 3 people away in a split second like I can in this game with dual analogue sticks. I enjoy the sword system pretty well. It's not 1:1, but it works well, and is a bit of fun. I like how it is implemented. My only complaints about the controls are that it has a bit of a learning curve and the sword movement sucks when you have it set to long movements. Change it to short movements, it is a lot easier, trust me.

The story's okay so far. I'm after the chase at Angel's Heaven. I like that it's set in Japan, but I'm not a huge fan of the comics shown to tell the story. Guess I'd rather like in-game dialogue or cutscenes. Oh well, it's not bad anyways.

The sound is pretty good. I like the music a lot, it's very catchy and different in parts, which is refreshing. I like the sound effects from both the TV and Wii remote, though I don't hear any gunshots coming from the Wiimote, which would be pretty cool in my opinion. Guess hearing the shotgun pump will do. The dialogue is okay, but in-game stuffy is pretty repetitive. "Die Bastard!" Heard that one, say..... 500 ****ING TIMES!

I like the choice of weapons. My favorite set is the Shotgun and Uzi. I wish dual wielding would be implemented though, as it'd be a nice feature. I haven't had a chance to play any multiplayer because my friends are gone on vacation and both my brothers are in college. I don't have an extra wiimote anyways, but hopefully that'll change on Black Friday.

My initial impressions for this game are saying about a 7.5 to 8 for this game. Lots of fun, though I don't know how long it is. Hopefully not too short. I'll be back tomorrow with some more stuff.
