Reintroducing Superman: An Open Discussion

That was 31 years ago. Things have changed a bit since.

I think WB would want this for a summer release but who knows they might just stick with a December release.

Exactly, that was the 70's when Superman was a lot more popular and Superman didn't need a villain or anything to fight for the movie to make a lot of money.

LOL.
Superhero films do tend to be major Summer blockbusters.
Christmas could be good though. It worked for Superman: The Movie

and that was over 20 years ago...the movie landscape has changed dramatically since then or did you not notice??

If filming can start late 2011 (which I am still not convinced it can), Fall into the following year, I'd imagine they'd need a warm weather location. Otherwise they'd take this down to Australia again? So what city would they base it in if that's the case? L.A would absolutely destroy their budget. Maybe Orlando or something? Usually these films go to Canada or stay up north.

Why don't you think it can? Did the judge give specific months within 2011 when it needs to film? All we know is start production in 2011, unless I missed some specific dates within that year.

And yea, shoot it in Australia. Btw, McTeigue is Australian. :yay:

Well if they are fast tracking a film, they could be filming by mid to late summer next year. Just look at how quickly they fast tracked Justice League. Granted, it got shelved but you see my point.

That's my point... summer 2013 is just too far off for that schedule. If filming is Spring 2012 I can see that. I know you guys will say a few more months of post can't hurt, but that's just not the typical filming schedule we have seen with these tentpoles. Maybe it's just my comfort level in that it's just not typical to start that early. I am not making this a huge issue... I am sure the Seigels can wait an extra year, but it is a bit unusual is all.

Just because the film is done, doesn't mean they have to release it. Look at Harry Potter.

Orlando would be an interesting backdrop for Metropolis. Sydney is still cool....but I thought Singer and the CGI could have done a far better job with the design of Metropolis.

ILM or WETA need to do the CGI and effects for the next Supes film without a doubt IMO.

The question really becomes do they have a script and what stage is it at. Thats how you really can judge some sort of start period. Right now, as far as we know, they have absolutely nothing. Depending on how serious they are one could be written very quickly. I mean, wasn't the Justice league script written pretty fast if i recall, even the green lantern one. Or they could be like Joss Whedons Wonder Woman.

S:TM came out christmas day? And Superman popular these days so he could still make great money during the holidays. Alot of people would be off work and would do and see the movie.

Oh yeah, Superman is still popular, but just not as popular now. Spider-Man and Batman are the most popular right now. Iron Man seems to be gradually joining them in popularity.

Which is why Christmas might work, with less SH competition. I agree though that Winter is more "Oscar caliber" type films and "artsy" flicks for the most part. I think WB, etc will keep the Superhero/action movies in the Summer. I was just pointing out that Christmas has been done before with Superman. I wasn't actually suggesting that date. If a new film does well though, there's no reason they couldn't do a Holiday season re-release.

Superman is an Icon your making it like he a chump. Just because a movie failed doesn't mean he's still not in the popularity. Example Batman. You just need a movie to get him up again.

Thats why its perfect because no one sees those films.

I want them to announce the thing first, then i'll worry about the release date.

Yea just the other day, my 3 year-old cousin was wearing a marvel T-shirt featuring hulk, spidey and iron man, and he knew who all 3 of them were. 5 years ago this couldn't happen.
But Superman is still popular, just not as popular.

Superman will always be popular. At least the image, the ideals, etc. The character himself has gone through cycles of being "uncool" his entire existence. The pendulum will eventually swing back in our favor.

well, if they get the right sort of director, it could be the epic film that we all want.
Thats my first and foremost concern, who directs.

Yeah when 911 hit he was very popular because of his ideals. he goes true these phases watch when the next movie comes out everybody will be a huge fan again. Its just batman and Iron time to shine.

For such a dark character, Batman seems to shine an awful lot. :oldrazz:

In a dark world they want a dark character. Thats why I like Superman more than Batman. Superman represents hope and the light and just to be a good person.
