Kojima has stated that, although he will probably be less involved, the Metal Gear franchise will continue so long as the fans demand it.

Due to the number of retcons that have taken place over the course of the franchise's development, and the fact that the stories have become outdated compared to the Solid franchise, I personally believe that MG and MG2 should be remade.

What are your thoughts?

it's obviously going to happen at one point.

remaking old games on new formats seem to be a trend...

Yup, even if they were only PSN release ala Bionic Commando. They could still do the voice overs and whatnot as well.

I would however prefer plain old remakes that will cost me 60 bones each.....or 40 each.

Whichever. :p

Just think of the possible visuals.

A lush jungle setting for Zanzibar Land.

Fighting Gray Fox amongst a mine field.

i would really love to see the previous games get remade, but i'd say combine the 2 into 1 remake. MGS was basically a remake of MG2:SS anyway.

Yes I would love remakes on the PSP or even better PS3.But they have to change some of the Bosses names.Names like Fire Trooper or Machinegun Kid wouldn't cut for me at least.

I vote no. I played it for storysake a few months ago, but the gameplay was a bit bland. Way too much backtracking especially in MG2. I cant see how it would translate into todays' gameworld.

most definitely would love to see this happen.

the storyline has holes if the original games stand.

By completely redoing it and putting it to todays standards. It wouldn't, infact it COULDN'T be the same game with PS3 graphics.

They would have to totally redo it, and they couldn't halfass it either.

I'd love to see them as inbetweens, MGS4 ends a few months (or a year later) we get Metal Gear: Snake's Begining or something like that....pretty much have the same over all story but completely different gameplay....obviously.

Then a few years later pick up where 4 left off, or start a new series depending on how it ends.

I think that the original games were damn great. Provides something different than the ol' fashioned run 'n gun stuff there was and there has to be strategy to it. You will not get away with just running around.

My only problem with it was that it was indeed too much backtracking like you said. But it's still a rather great game.

well seeing as how it would be a remake, that would have to include level design and game flow. Metal Gear Solid included some backtracking, but i thought it had JUST ENOUGH. they could do something similarly for a Metal Gear 1 remake.

if they combined the story of Metal Gear 1 and 2, cut out all the parts that have already been used (in MGS1) and add a few plot points then it would make for an awesome prequel. the stories are so legendary now and we only got to see an 8-bit representation, so if Metal Gear 1 & 2 got remade it could have the potential to rival MGS4. imagine Snake fighting Gray Fox and Big Boss with PS3's graphics.

Honestly this series is so huge with 2 great main characters, Snake and Big Boss. It would be a shame if the only way they could ever meet and fight is through an 8 bit game.

They should combine the two into one epic title. Snake Eater and Portable Ops set up Big Boss and Zanzibar Land so perfectly. Every part of the saga is so cinematic and well done, that the 2 parts left out seem wrong.

Definately. I would buy them atleast.

I hated the remake of the ps1 version.
It had a diffrent feel and the cut scenes were far over the top for my liking.
Didn't much like mgs2, the game still looks pretty decent atm imo thanks to solid production values.
Voted no.

He's not talking about a remake for MGS2. Its for MG1 and MG2, which originally came out in the 80s for the MSX

I think it would be awesome if they consolidated MG and MG2 into one game and called it "Metal Gear Solid: Genesis" or something to that effect. First act of the game could be Outer Heaven, and the second act could be Zanzibar, similar to how MGS3 starts with "Operation Virtuous Mission," and ended with "Operation Snake Eater," but with the first act being a bit longer (since you can't brush over MG's story in just an hour).

I don't care about a "remake" in as much as I'd like to see Metal Gear Solid 1-3 released on a single or two Blu-ray discs. If they were to add an updated "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2", then that'd be icing on the cake!

what would it matter in any way if metal gear solid 1-3 were re-released on 1 or 2 bluray disks?

they already exist on 3 separate disks that are playable on your ps3.

that's stupid.

As it stands right now, my 40GB PS3 isn't backwards compatible for PS2 games, and thus MGS2 and 3 do not work. There's a rumor that this function will change in October, but I'll believe it when I see it.

the problem now is emulating the PS2 hardware to play PS2 games and thats something that the 40gb is currently not capable of doing. Releasing the games on BR wouldnt change that.

i'll stick to ejecting my MGS games if it means i could play a PS3 remake of MG1 and MG2. playing MGS4 makes me yearn to see Snake's first adventures in 3D. plus, seeing this image of Yoji Shinkawa's reimagining of the original Metal Gears makes me feel all tingly inside...
