Remake Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Yes or No

Sadly, I haven't played the original 'Metal Gear' and 'Metal Gear 2'
If Kojima would remake these, or 'reboot' these games for the next generation consoles..I'd be extremely happy, and I'd finally be able too play them.

so uh guys...ya think if we make a loud enough fuss, Konami would consider this idea? playing MGS4 made me yearn for Snake's first adventures in 3D. plus, i was doing some Metal Gear research and ran across an image of Yoji Shinkawa's reimagining of the first 2 Metal Gear designs and couldn't help but think how awesome it would be to see them realized in 3d.

Now that I think about it, instead of fully remaking the first two Metal Gear titles, they should do an HD update of them with fully improved graphics like Street Fighter II HD and have anime styled cutscenes. Give some much needed updates to the story, still have the abundant voice acting and whatnot, while keeping the gameplay to its core.

i guess it would be cool to see an HD version of the 2D game, but if they're going to stick with the 2D aspect of the gameplay....i'd rather see something more like Bionic Commando: Rearmed, where it's the basic 2D gameplay with 3D graphics and enhanced gameplay.

however, i think Snake's saga would feel more complete if they went with a full fledged 3D remake. imagine seeing Snake fight Gray Fox and Big Boss with graphics that are BETTER than MGS4.

well you have to think...each game gets better and better looking. just look at the graphical leap from MGS2 to MGS3 (on the same system).

now apply that to MGS4.

That would be great, but I still demand anime cutscenes. I think MGS would work great in an anime styled animation. But a more realistic style, like in the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs and Batman: Gotham Knight, not the goofy cartoony style we see in Dragonball, Pokemon, Inuyasha, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin TV show, etc.

I personally feel that they should keep the core gameplay of it instead of completely remaking it. I think Kojima said he was against that as well.

well, if i recall correctly...Kojima said he was against remakes, period, despite the Twin Snakes remake. then again, he really only did that one to work with Miyamoto.

Kojima seems like the kinda guy that's open to outside influence and pleasing the fans.

Id like them to remake both of em and keep damn near everything the same. Update the visuals and controls to resemble MGS4, but everything else remain.

i think almost everything would need reworking. from the script to level design, they would need to change things not only to make it current gen, but also to make the story better fit the CURRENT MGS lore.

I dunno why, I should probably double check...but I always thought that Sons of Liberty looked better, graphically, than Snake Eater.

I'm currently playing through Subsistence, though, on Euro Extreme...and I'm starting to think that the fixed camera might have been the reason why.

If they remade Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2....EVERYTHING would have to be reworked. Everything, from the gameplay, to the story, to designs...lots of stuff. They'd essentially be new games, I think.

But...I want to see it happen. It'd be like playing Snake Eater...watching Big Boss become THE MAN....only with the remake it'd be watching Solid Snake become 'the man who make the impossible possible'.

Certain things, like saving POW Frank Jaeger...or later on in the sequel, fighting Jaeger in a mind field, having to make your way through 100 flights of stairs to get to Metal Gear...stuff like that would have to remain.

But it'd be great. I know the current rumor is that they want to go back and tell more stories and fill certain gaps about Big Boss...but I'd be happier with them going back and fleshing out The Solid Snake story.

It'd be welcome too, for certain people who felt Solid Snake's story was too short (MGS 1 and MGS4 basically being his stories...with only less than a quarter of his story being in MGS2 and MGS3 being all about his dad).

Yea, if we get any more MGS games, i just want them to be remakes of games they we havent seen in awhile, those being MG and MG2:SS. I dont think there are really any more stories left in this time that hasnt been told and or we know the outcome to. Yea, so i REALLY, REALLY want updated versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

And not enough people know the stories to those games either. Kojima said once that he's not a "genuis like George Lucas" because he didn't have the enitre series story planned out. He took things as far as he could and then went from there each time, it seems.

So, it'd be a chance to go back and refine the story. And...of course...more Solid Snake. Which would be freakin sweet.

And man, I love Yoji Shinkawa's artwork. But...I can never find anything of his other than the box art and the drawings in the guides. He really needs more of his stuff out there.

I voted yes, I only played brief amounts of MG1, never tried MG2, I would love to get to see that story in action. As much as I'd like to see MG1 and 2 get merged with the MGS4 treatment, I don't see Konami fronting the cash or time to do it. An HD redo with voice overs and cut scenes (and yes I'd like to see anime cut scenes as well) I could see working tho.

I say just give it time. At some point MGS is going to hit a 5-10 years since it ended anniversary and Kojima's gonna get misty eyed and miss it and do another game dealing with it. If it's just a 2D with 3D engine like the Bionic Commando update, then that they could finish fairly quick compared to a MGS4.

Well there is a rumor that the Metal Gear Solid movie may not be based on Metal Gear Solid. But instead based on the first Metal Gear with CG animation.

I cant see a direct remake for MG1 and MG2, like they did with MGS TTS. The gameplay, story, level design, etc... is soooo outdated. I played them for the story but never will again. IF they do a remake, it has to be completely new games based on the story of the originals. It would have to be tweaked obviously. Alot of stuff in those games is silly even by MGS standards. They'd have to update it to make it contemporary. Im not sure if Kojima would want to touch it bc I dont think it can translate well into today's gaming environment without some massive changes to the presentation

Yea i think its a long shot to get those 2 remade but damn id love to see em get the next gen treatment. However if i had to bet, i say wev played the last full length Metal Gear game and quite honestly, id be ok with that. They really tied up everything so perfectly.

Yeah Still. I was only a year old when Metal Gear was released. I've never played it and I'm not 100% on the story, though Metal Gear Database is filling me in on it. It's alot of seemingly non cohesive information that would make so much more sense if I play the game.. I'm thinking about shelling out the cash to buy Subsistence just for MG and MG:SS

I think they'd be willing to remake them, because those two games (especially SS) does get forgotten.

The games would essentially be brand new, having to be rebuilt from the ground up...and the stories re-worked as well.

Which, is what would make it worth the trouble. It's not just a remake, but a...re-imagining. I think that could be the lure to get them working on it.

Otherwise, if it's just making a 3D version...it'd be kinda pointless to make it. Re-creating it is why I'd think they'd do it.

Plus, it'd add another two games to what many see as the Solid Snake saga. MGS 1 and MGS4 being the others.
