The Resident Evil Thread - Part 1

I hate it when a game's design screams at you, and RE5 reeked of being designed with co-op in mind. I'm not happy to hear about co-op for 6, and I'm also not too jazzed about that new dude pulling off moves like this is a hack-and-slash game but whatever. RE is dead to me now that they've gone action/horror. Well, not entirely true. I might buy this when it's on sale... after a price drop. :o

And as for Dead Space, yeah, it completely works as a survival horror and has replaced RE for me. Having to watch your ammo and stasis and strategically take down enemies... it got pretty intense in more than a couple areas. Oh, and the real-time menus. Genius. I almost had a heart attack when I got sliced by a Necromorph trying to decide what to buy from the store.

It wasn't the concept of co-op that was weak in RE 5, it was that the co-op was poorly implemented. The extent of their vision of what co-op is was nothing more than giving each other leg ups and opening doors together. Like I said in that previous post, there is a lot you can do with co-op.

I had a lot of fun playing F.E.A.R. 3 in co-op with my friend and even though it was largely an action game, the horror sections were enhanced massively in co-op. Being scared with a friend is so much more satisfying than being scared on your own. You feed off each others fear and anxiety and it just heightens everything. Your friend might see a shadow flicker and yell or you might see Alma briefly while climing a ladder and lose your **** but then your friend didn't see it which actually makes them more scared than you.

That whole concept is a gold mine of oppurtunity for games and has barely been scratched. If it was done well and cleverly designed, it could well be something to set RE apart from other horror games, giving them something unique to make them one of the top horror series again.

Is that Ashley with the new buzzcut guy?
That was her voice, but maybe the same actress voiced another girl

I think the storyline might be this actually:

Leon: Beginning Chris: Middle New Guy: End.
Could be good, will they possibly meet? Will there be a permanent cure for the virus this time? What will happen?

You mean the one directed by Paul W Suck Anderson? Or the new CGI movie?
Never heard news of a second CG movie

RE5 really wasn't that bad a game. As far as RE games go, it was lacking 90% percent of all the scary atmosphere and survival stuff that made the series great, sure, but as a game itself it's really not that bad. I had plenty of fun playing through that in co-op and then co-op mercenary mode was pretty fun too.
I like the game, crocodiles are scary

They are but that's less atmosphere and more just shock and tension building

Oh that trailer is just so damn awesome. I loved the gameplay scenes where Leon slides and shoots all the zombies/possessed people or whoever. The new guy who was talking about being a Merc seems okay. Looks like Ashley was with him for some reason. I really hope there are no escort missions with her unless she brings along that suit of armor she had when you beat RE4 twice. lol

Thread merger, sniff, I'll miss the RE6 standalone thread

Now that Leon lost his job, you suppose he will find work someplace else?
Imagine the possibility of seeing Ashley turned to zombie
What are the odds of having Sherry showing up again?

Thats garbage. With so many RE games coming out, they need to be separated. RE6 needs its own thread.

Why did he lose his job? He is an aid to the president, like the secret service. there will be other presidents.

I personally wonder if the blond girl is not Ashley but rather Sherry. We know that Sherry grew up in the government's care. Maybe she has devoted her life to undoing her father's mistakes. Perhaps she is seeking out this mystery man whose blood the world needs in order to create a vaccine to the T-virus.

That would make sense since this seemingly seems like a massive game set up to either end the current state of the series or restart it.

What makes this great is that there are clearly still things we have not seen. We know Ada has a playable story and that hasn't been revealed yet. If they are bringing all of these characters together, I am sure that Jill and Claire may have roles to be revealed.

It seems like they are taking the Revelations route, at any rate. Multiple concurring stories and a mix of survival horror and action horror, which I kind of like. 4 and 5 did a lot of things right. Also took out some of the elements that made the series great. According to reviews, Revelations kind of returns to the roots of the series while also keeping the good parts of 4 and 5. This seems to follow suit on a much larger scale.

Agreed, Dead Space hits that survival horror note much better than RE5. I still love Resident Evil & will buy every game...it's just not quite the same type of game anymore. That RE6 trailer looks great though whatever gametype it's going to be.

Eh, i LOVE, i mean LOVE Dead Space but you can't really call that a survival horror title either. Granted its scarier than the last RE entry, there is nothing "survival" about it. You can pretty much shred anything that comes your way. Once enemies start dropping items, thats where survival horror ceases imo. How many bullets did you pick up from a downed zombie in Resident Evil or Resident Evil 2?

As for that 3rd character, I'm seeing a lot of people toss the idea around that it is in fact HUNK. Apparently the character looks like the image of HUNK seen in an in-game file. The theory is that HUNK is immune to the T-Virus which has allowed him to always be the only survivor of his team and that his blood may hold the cure.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the trailer. Glad to see Capcom's learned it's lesson from RE5 and is combining the scares of RE 1, 2, and 3 with the action and intensity of 4 and 5. Don't get me wrong, RE5 was GREAT story-wise, but it was too heavily focused on action. I always thought it was going to be the end of the timeline. Looks like they've found a way to continue this even with Wesker dead.

Also, I'm very happy to see actual zombies back, and it looks like they've taken some inspiration from Dead Space with the regenerating BOW creature! And I wonder if the unnamed merc guy is Hunk from RE2's "4th Survivor" mini-game. Even if he's not, it seems like he's going to be a VERY interesting character. The trailer makes it sound like he immune to the T-Virus. Hmmm....

Played RE5 a little, Sheva died and I lost interest
I hope they fix the inventory size and don't make it as small as it is in this game, and the game needs to pause opening the bag

They have some characters with stories in need of resolution and they do this?

Keep in mind, they said the woman in the tube was a new character when her first promo shot was revealed and it turned out to be Jill. Can't always trust these early details.

Anyone, you read that wrong. They mentioned the girl with Leon is a new character named Helena. The identity of the girl with the third main character has not yet been revealed.

Yea based of the early detail, I'm saying that 3rd character is in fact HUNK. It makes too much sense. He's a fan favorite, potentially immune to the T-Virus, extremely capable of handling his own against BOW's. All of that was seen in the trailer.

The graphics for this game look so good.

For a minute there it seemed like Chris was holding a gun
