The Resident Evil Thread - Part 3

there was nothing wrong with an AI partner in PoP 2008. I wouldn't even list that as co-op as it was a solo title. Elika never got in the way. She couldn't die and didn't take/waste resources. As an AI, her only role in gameplay was to help you out and she did that effectively. There are games that force a secondary NPC on you which become a hindrance bc you have to constantly worry about them. Elika in PoP was one of the rare occasions where she was a nonissue. Any dislike heard from this was bc she made the game too easy (preventing you from dying) and that wasn't bc she had faulty AI that wasn't "smart enough"

lol what ever I met a Asian dude that said other wise and he came into Eb's violently stated how he hated that ai partner in prince of persia til I calmed him down and told him to Explain his issue. this while my buddy worked there and told me come check out some thing.

To him it is that way and he sent it back violently and he wasn't the last person I met personally that hated that game since. then it's ever other time that was also hated on with the co-op on resident evil I came to this forum and saw the same deal and people expecting same on other titles since that was planning to add it. No, the way it was implemented since was terrible.

and the other issue is capcom never hire the people that know how to do that stuff and it makes it worse cause of that. pick up someone that's master that thing first.

Again and I've said this a couple of other time there nothing wrong with trying new things but if you know there are people that have done some thing your not good at or more to it used to hire them to help .

Ten Years Later, Fans Bring Resident Evil Outbreak Back Online

XXj1gwr.jpg

Fans of Resident Evil Outbreak, a spinoff series for PlayStation 2 released about 10 years ago, have managed to restore online play for the game on a private server, though only for its Japanese versions.

Outbreak Server came online recently for both Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2. The project reverse-engineered the server with packet captures from the NTSC/J versions of the game (according to this FAQ) but no such captures for American and European versions have been found so far. "We hope that we will be ble to create servers that will work with the NTSC/U and PAL versions of the game," the creators wrote in the FAQ, but absent those, NTSC/J is where the action is for now.

And no, they're not doling out download links for the game, either. "We will not tolerate piracy discussion here. Nor is there an excuse not to purchase a legitimate copy," they say. The project is a server to host the game's multiplayer only, it doesn't touch the game's assets otherwise.

Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 had a dedicated following that had been agitating for Capcom to revive the series, either with a sequel or in re-releases. For now, this is as good as it gets for them.

Man i loved Outbreak, i think that was the first title i ever attempted to take online. Granted it was a pretty crappy experience, but looking back, man it had tons and tons of potential.

These same old and decaying fans, got your dead game back online Capcom. Time to get a freaking clue.

I had both games for PS2. Never had the online bit for it though. It was fun and an interesting spin on the series. I'd love to see them bring it back. Can you imagine it with six people with drop in drop out play? That would be amazing!

In a day where we have DayZ, Dead Island and the upcoming Dying Light, I don't understand why there isn't another Resident Evil Multiplayer game that focuses on survival. Who ****ing manages Capcom right now?

And don't forget State of Decay, thats one of the best zombie, survival games we have seen this generation. And SoD sold REALLY well.

Totally forgot about State of Decay. Man, Capcom... get off your ass.

Id love a RE title similar in ways to State of Decay. It'd be so cool for you and some buddies to go on these scouting missions together, only equipped with a crude melee weapon or a rifle with only 10 rounds. You'd have to avoid hordes of zombies while trying to find supplies in a post outbreak Raccoon City. Sound discipline could play a role, similar to how it does in SoD. Theres plenty of things Capcom could do. Hell the upcoming shooter the Division looks like it could serve as a cool base for a great Outbreak type title. So "Capcom, get off your ass" is a huge understatement.

But seriously, what's the cause of Capcom's current state? How come they aren't working on any of these obvious games? Instead they pretty much kill their biggest mascot, butcher a franchise, and for some reason want to focus on even more DLC, despite the uproar of the fans.

I really cant understand it. Id would say sales, but some of the BEST selling RE titles were the early RE games. I mean RE2 sold 6 million units on the PS1 alone, the orig RE sold like 5, back in a time when the industry was MUCH more narrow than it is now. I don't believe those people have magically disappeared, they've still gotta be there, playing games.

I mean i understand RE5 sold well, with a more action heavy focus, but damn the orig RE titles sold well, without an action focus, so they cant tell me that their survival horror RE titles don't sell as well as their terror action RE titles.

I really don't get it. There are so very few survival horror titles released right now, Resident Evil could truly standout again, like it did back in 1998.

They've never gone back to Raccoon City after they blew it to hell, maybe there's some things underneath the crater. :p

I'd love to see them just do a few things like Outbreak though. Make it 50/50 Online/Single player and everyone will be happy. Just make the AI smarter than the original Outbreaks. I had one time where there was a perfectly fine path around shark infested waters and they always insisted on swimming through it. With online so prevalent these days you'd think Capcom would jump at the chance not only to bring in some more of that sweet RE money but also to dig into the online arena every other company has been pushing out, especially since those games came out when online for consoles was in it's infancy.

Operation Raccoon City could have been the new Outbreak game. Instead they just made it a military shooter with Zombies. I still enjoyed the game, but thinking about what they could have done instead, just fills me with anger.

They could even just dose a new city with (Insert letter here)-Virus just for kicks to make a new Raccoon City incident from someone elses screwup for a new game. They even made a cure for the T-Virus at the end of #2, sunlight or something like that? It's not that hard. I mean we've accepted that the Viruses they use will make things grow beyond the laws of physics and just gain mass from literally nothing in seconds, like the whole river boss fight in 5. He went from regular guy to big as a submarine in seconds. Why not just have some sort of virus come in and kick some new monster designs out?

I'd be fine with a completely new city. I'd still want some of the classic monsters to return though. I need my Lickers in Resident Evil.

When's the last time we had a threatening Tyrant type figure anyway? The last one I can think of was Nemmy. He was an unstoppable monster. I loved that guy.

I can still remember the time I climbed out of the Kitchen cellar, only to have Nemesis right next to me, preparing to throw a haymaker. I just went "Nope." and climbed right back down the ladder.

I always liked the Bandersnatch. He's one of the few I liked after Nemesis.

Resident Evil 6 had this dude. But I still haven't played it, so I can't really judge how good of an enemy he was.

I'd rather go to wherever it was Leon went in the trailers for Resident Evil 3.5. At this point, storywise, I'd like to see them explore the terrorist organizations that we fought in RE6.

10 years since outbreak...man I feel old. I never finished that one. One of the AI allies disappeared with a key I needed.

Tyrant type villains: the Village Chief, U3, Verdugo from RE4? I enjoyed their designs.

What I think would be great, is if Capcom could manage to make you able to interact with literally everything in the environment. I want to be able to misuse all sorts of desk utensils, when I run out of ammo or weapons. Pick up a lamp and smash it across a Zombies face, use a pen to stab it through the eye socket, misuse a trophy that someone has on the shelve, pick up a goddamn chair to smash a zombie, then misuse the broken off and pointy chair leg as a stake. Let me use everything in the room to barricade a door if I desire.

I want the ability to literally use everything I can find to fend for my life.
That could work well. Although I actually think the possibility of running out of ammo and having no recourse other than to run or hide is part of what made the 1st RE at least intense. Just having to conserve it is scary when you're walking around a claustrophic area by yourself not knowing what's around the next corner. But this interaction would make sense and add to immersion I think. I'd like to see it if they can add it well and without making it compulsory in certain instances..like find the one thing you need to interact with before you die. I still want to be able to shoot my way out if I've been sensible with my ammo.

Still, you pretty much described the mechanics of that series. I don't know if just reskinning DR with RE would be all that good of an idea. I'd prefer RE at least try to keep and establish it's own identity.
Dead Rising does it but Dead Rising isn't a horror game like the early REs and they're going more for comedy, outrageousness and being over the top than fighting for your life. And increased interaction with the environment isn't really a Dead Rising trait any more than it is something that could improve any kind of game, even in totally unrelated genres. Identity wise RE will always be a much more serious type of game albeit set within an almost fantastical horror setting. As long as it has some root in survival horror it will keep that identity. The action style of the recent games can still be fun in a different way but should be kept separate, either separate storylines and chapters within the same games or separate games altogether.

The first dead rising was a dark comedy compared to what RE was to the horror genre. It was just 'if you could do anything in a zompocolypse what would you do?' and it was just a big playground with a sort of story that was easily ignorable.

RE was a heavy story horror monster movie. I can't honestly see anyone in RE trying to do a DR type game. RE is always kinda serious about the story but everything is just crazy enough to keep it fun, DR has the story as "Zombie bees! OOOH SCARY! **** that! Let's go use that lawn mower on those zombies!"

They did try the emergency knives in the REmake and you always have your basic knife as a defense but mostly it's useless. Just being able to chuck things at zombies doesn't seem like something you'd have Chris or Jill doing. That would be more like Ashley from RE4 when she used the lamps.
