Resistance 2 Viral info and discussion thread

I just took a gander over there. Haven't been there since the first round of Res 2 wrapped up and have been busy with my new son to delve too deeply into any virals. But I'm starting to get the itch.

Just beat the campaign, and its leaps and bounds better than the original game which was a very worth launch title. Can't wait for the 3rd, Insomniac can take this franchise in so many directions right now

I'm gonna rent this game. The first looks whack but I need a good game to play co-op w/ my bro.

Riddle me this, someone:

Did Dr. Malakov experiment on Nathan before the events of the first game (giving him the ability to gain Chimeran attributes after the spire strike at the beginning) or did he only experiment on him after they rescued him from england?

I think it was before the first game, right? I mean he was in the same experiment as the big ball o' Chimerian floating death...

I had no idea what they were even on about until I read Wikipedia.

I take it by "big ball o' Chimerian floating death" you mean Joseph Shepard/Daedalis...right?

Been avoiding this thread as I didn't want to get spoiled, but finally bought Resistance 2. I'll eventually play online with you guys (very eager for online co-op), but I'm going to finish single player before I even touch online. Only reason I typed that is if anyone tries to invite me to a R2 game while I'm playing, if I reject it over the next week, it's not blowing anyone off, but finishing the single player campaign first.

Could Insomniac have a update where you can have a local match like what they had in the first Resistance. you vs 3 other people

Just beat the game, and wow. Loved it, in fact I just finished a few minutes ago, so I'm still kind of taking in the ending. The makers of this game are not only good storytellers, but they have balls to do what they did at the end. Not many series
kill off the main character
and end on a cliffhanger that begs for another sequel.

As for non story stuff, loved the graphics. I loved how they sucessfully incorporated giant enemies (some games have trouble with this), and not just giant...but astonishingly enormous, skyscrapper sized enemies. The guns are even better, I loved the magnum when fighting greys because of the secondary fire. It also had great pace and you really felt like you went on a big adventure by the end. Also you can't forget the enemies, greys, furies, the bosses, everything was a step up. Tho I hate chameleon's lol.

As of this moment, it tops COD4 to me personally. I haven't even touched multiplayer yet (well, I did during beta, but not since I bought it).

Does skirmish count in competative? I've played 3 rounds of it, yet when I check my competitive score it still shows I have no deaths, no kills, no xp....still level 1. Hell, I even played a team deathmatch game the first day I bought it too, and it still isn't showing up. Co-op and single player scores show up just fine however. I really don't get it, am I doing something wrong?

Are you playing ranked or unranked games? Only ranked games count. Ive been playing a ton of Skirmish this past weekend (mainly for the trophies I dont have)

Yeah, just realized. Up until today I've just been searching for games. I thought they'd be ranked. Then today just started selecting play and letting it pick whatever and started leveling up quick.

I do love skirmish tho. Every changing goals, and teamwork makes or break it. If the enemy isn't guarding a beacon, or their trying to be a group of individuals rather than a group, you can take them down. Co-op's the same too, you really need the group working like a unit.

I'm honestly surprised how good multiplayer is on this game. I thought I'd just be a co-op junkie, but the competitive is just as good. I will be playing this game for a long time lol.

DLC and Patch 1.50

Game on! Tomorrow (March 26) we’ll be bringing you a host of downloadable content for Resistance 2, plus another patch that helps improve the online experience even further (and includes several requests that came from…well, you!). So let’s get right down to it, shall we?

The DLC comes in two forms: new competitive multiplayer maps and character skins. The Aftermath Map Pack features three new battlefields, two set in Twin Falls (Aftermath and Pit Stop) and another in Orick (Outpost). All of the maps support 20-player Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, while Outpost also lets you play 20-player Core Control. The Aftermath Map Pack will be available for download through the PlayStation Store for $5.99.

We also have six new competitive multiplayer character skins. In addition to our usual band of brothers (of the human, Cloven, and Chimeran variety), we even have two selections for our female R2 players. You can download the following skins through the PlayStation Store for $0.99 each: Rachael Parker, Female Soldier, Ravager, Cloven (Retribution model), Ranger Variation, and Black Ops Variation.

Then we have patch 1.50, or what some on the MyResistance.net forums have been calling the “the big patch.” And it definitely lives up to that nickname—it’s quite substantial. Once you install the patch (the download prompt will come up automatically once you start R2), you’ll now be treated to:

Meltdown Mode: We’ve read the message-board comments. We’ve seen the online petition. You want it? You got it! Patch 1.50 brings back Meltdown, the popular Resistance: Fall of Man multiplayer mode in which each team attempts to gain control of the map by capturing beacons.

Superhuman Co-op Mode: Does your eight-man Specter squad possess the skills to survive this all-new difficulty? It features stronger enemies and disables auto-respawning (only another squadmate can revive you), but dishes out bigger rewards (double the Grey Tech and XP per round).

Second PSN Login Support: Your fellow couch potato can now save their character’s multiplayer progress, thanks to the added option to log in with two unique PSN accounts.

But that’s really just the beginning of patch 1.50’s offerings:

* XP balance adjustments for competitive mode
* Announcements screen
* Failsafe save support
* Password protected custom games
* Added ability to “Report” player
* Teams switch sides between Core Control rounds
* Players now automatically go to staging after every competitive or cooperative game (regame)
* Localization updates

* Reduced sprint speed of core carrier in Core Control games
* Cooperative XP bonuses have been increased by 30%
* Cooperative games respawn time is now 20 seconds
* Players keep their grenades if they get revived in a cooperative game
* Players now have a “Join Game” option for players on their friends list
* A player’s own name is now in white in the obituary text

If you have any questions concerning the DLC and patch 1.50, you can find us on the MyResistance.net forums.

I wont be buying the DLC, but Ill defiently check out hte new patch

I'm appreciative of all the work IG has done for the patch, but three new stages for competitive and not ONE for co-op? It's disappointing.

So Meltdown is pretty much like CoD4's Domination? Cool bc that was 1 of my faves from that game. Seems like an easy way to level up and I wish it was in before I spent hours doing so in the other modes before

To be fair...the ending really leaves it open to interpretation.

You don’t know for a fact if Hale has been killed or not. Knowing Insomniac they love to throw curve balls whenever they get a chance to. I’m remaining skeptical until a RESISTANCE 3 trailer graces the internet.

There are plenty of ways to explain why the situation played out the way that it did. The ending could have simply been Capelli day dreaming about killing Hale since through out the campaign you notice he has this burning desire to put a bullet in Hales head. However when the time comes down to it, could he really do it?

I have a theory though that a way to explain Hales death at the end of R2 is because of Hale touching Daedalus. When Hale touched Daedalus he received all of Daedalus’s powers reuniting the second strain of the pure Chimera virus.

We saw through out the game that the Chimera seem to possess a variety of powers that humans only touch on when writing fantasies. Super speed, strength, telekinesis, telepathy, regenerative abilities, etc. are a few to name.

I’m willing to bet that Hale possesses the power of foresight. Hale had a premonition that Capelli was going to kill him and that’s how R2 ended.

Though I could be wrong and frankly wouldn’t mind it. I think it would be interesting to play R3 through the eyes of Capelli. I commend Insomniac for being bold on killing their main character. It shows the community that there is something far bigger than Lt. Nathan Hale.

How would you guys open up RESISTANCE 3?
