The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

PLEASE NO LIZARD YET.

I just feel like if the series is going to be rebooted, the first villain should be a character that is formidable and unique, one that will still set a tone for the series, providing awesome action that we haven't seen before. The last thing I want to see is a sympathetic, completely CGI villain that is essentially Jekyll/Hyde.
I agree. I fear they are following the same approach that Raimi in company went. A stand alone film that does not set the tone, or even better, foundation, for future films. Here's truely hoping I'm wrong, and hope they include Kraven... maybe even follow something similar to "Spidey 4" story in my sig. If I remember correctly, Vandy script was big and extended over two films, with Lizard making his appearence as part 1 cliffhanger, to be featured in part 2. I guess they are crunching it into one film, if the rumor is true; Ifans is to play Connors.

Don't get me wrong, I have much faith in Webb and this creative team to make an incredible film, and I'm sure The Lizard could be done well, but I'm just not a fan of the idea.
I have not reached that point of faith yet; but, I believe the Lizard can be done well... with a much larger budget than $80 million.

Oh helllllll yea. Give me some Lizard.

I honestly just don't think the Lizard is a good fit for film in general. No matter how much they change or retool it, it is still a guy transforming into a 7 foot tall reptile. What works on paper doesn't always translate to film. I think Lizard will be a perfect example of that. I fear its just going to come off as cartoony.

That's unfortunate considering the fact that the Lizard was just confirmed as the main villain.

No ****? What an amazing coincidence that I am just now saying this right after he gets confirmed as the villain! :oldrazz:

Hahahah, that's quite ironic. Oh well, at least you were terribly honest about it.

I'm down for the Lizard, been waiting for this since Spider-Man 2. :D

Which is probably one of the reasons why they didn't do him before.

Done right I think the Lizard could be a fantastic villian. But I think there needs to be another one to back him up, maybe Electro.

I kinda see what you mean. The Lizard on the 90's animated series looked kinda silly after a while but the whole idea is that this is someone that is very close to Parker, as apposed to some evil villian who just comes in.

I hope they have another, more thuggy and less sympathetic villian to contrast.

I do agree that they made Doc Ock and Sandman WAAY to sympathetic. They had to try and make some strong connection to Peter, even going as far as changing past events in the case of Sandman.

They should have a connection to Peter but I don't think it should be shoved in our faces for the sake of it.

So I know the Lizard will be a more sympathetic villian but I also want one who doesn't give a crap about Peter and is generally an amoral character to shake things up more.

If it is Lizard I'm happy. Hopefully Kraven is mashed into it as well.

Man, I really wanted Electro or Chameleon or Shocker or Mysterio. :(

But again, I'm sure they can pull off Lizard. Perhaps something like the Raptors in Jurassic Park. But taller and buffer

Imagine the terrible sewer fight scenes if the cgi is bad (and on an 80 million dollar budget how good can it be?).

Hey, the Salary for the cast is low, so it might even out. Cloverfield's budget was around there and it's effects were pretty good. Granted the film style was different. Eh, I'm sure the fight scenes will be fine

We'll see.

However, they better have some damn fine fight scenes.

And long ones too. The shortness of the fight scenes in Spider-Man 3 still haunt me

I hear you Matt, and although I disagree that the Lizard is not a good fit on film, I certainly think he is(the same was said about Sandman); I completely agree with your fear that it may come off cartoonish. Mostly because I have little faith that these guys can pull it off. Again, I hope I'm terribly wrong. I want an epic Spider-Man.

And that movie had more fight scenes than the other movies..

Yuck. I don't think I can take another bad Spider-Man film. This is like X-Men 3 all over again .

Worked for The Hulk.

It is too soon for the Lizard. I feel he is a villain who is best built up. Also, Ock already covered a lot of the Lizard's story in SM2. I feel like we're going to be covering the same ground kind of. Only with new people.

I would have rather another villain was used. Give us something different. Not a father figure turned into monster. Oh, and who has a wife he is abandoning.

Lizard is one of my 3 favorite Spider-Man villains. Just not one of my favorite choices for villain.

Exactly... and really, this is not a reboot, as much as, it is a continuation(with new people). Connors character is already established(by Dylon Baker); and they are just going to pick up from there. That's what Vandy script was originally to do.
