^I think they are about level, and I am talking about the DC of CoR here, not the theatrical version which was extremely watered down. Riddick is more interesting in PB thats for sure.

I got my nephew the Dc for his Christmas, I have only seen it once, I have the theatrical cut dvded off tv, so i don't recall the differences that much. But, sometimes the Necromongers bore me a bit, and i am rivited during all of PB.
Also, someone reminded me that in the DC they give ricddick some super-power, where he blasts away some necromongers with a kind of energy field thing, I don't like that idea being in there, I always preferred Riddick to be just a highly trained Batman type, who honed all his skills on the run, while doing jobs, in prison, and of course when he takes tea breaks. :cwink:

Until now i liked every Riddick story, exept enter Pitch Black, and i really want more.

Loved Pitch Black. It reminded me of some older sci fi horror/action but at the same time a few fresh ideas made it stand out.

Chronicles of Riddick was flawed but I still enjoyed it.

Here's hoping the third movie materializes soon because I want to see this film universe continue.

They didnt give him a power, he could only use it once, it was the anger of The Furian race all coming out at once, hence why he didnt use it at the end in his fight with the Lord Marshall.

"In a nutshell, the movie sees Riddick back on a barren planet, surrounded by monsters and mercenaries – both species who want him dead and vice versa. Though there’s a couple of potential cameos from previous Riddick movie faves, it’s mostly fresh blood this time surrounding the big guy. And speaking of fresh, the character seems to have gotten a welcome, kick-ass overhaul...he’s more brutal, bad-ass and virile (as some may say) than he was in the previous films."

I've been waiting to see a return of Riddick for years. The games managed to become the exception to the rule and not suck. It's pretty much all we've had since the Chronicles movie back in 2004.

Wow, never thought this day would come. Can't wait to hear the cast announcement.

Awesome stuff, Twohy normally has good casts and not expecting any different from this, looking forward to it.

I enjoyed Pitch Black and I really liked Riddick. I like the universe and visual look of it that Twohy crafted and enjoyed seeing Riddick in the bigger picture, even though it perhaps didn't feel like PB. And I like Twohy as a director too.

I know some people didn't like COR but I always said I'd like to see another film with a tone and feel somewhere in between PB and COR. The grander scale, the visual look and story and the style of COR but with a more brutal, PB kind of Riddick thrown into it...

Looking forward to a new film anyway though. I was hopeing it would follow on from COR with Riddick going to the underverse to rescue Kira but this new one sounds good too. Does anyone know if it's being said where it fits in the continuity... if it takes place after COR or perhaps even before PB... It said there might be potential cameos, maybe Johns will come at the end and catch him, leading into PB :yay:

I enjoyed both too and the story for this new one sounds great, can't wait to read more news on it!!

^Same here, although as someone else mentioned its a bit dissapointing we wont get the storyline of Riddick going into the underverse to get Jack/Kyra back.

But this new storyline does sound pretty good.

Are they not allowed to do this story? Or was it personal choice?

Personal choice I think. I think David and Vin decided that the story should be more intimate and smaller this time around like Pitch Black.

Overall, this series is crazy uneven in it's shift in tone; like the Evil Dead trilogy or Mission Impossible.

I think its simply a case of they dont have the budget for it, COR cost $100 million or over, as it flopped the next Riddick movie will have a much lower budget, $60 million I believe, so they just wouldnt have the budget for it. Shame, it sounded an awesome story.

eh, it would probably have still been wrapped around all that Necromonger garbage, it being to do with 'the underverse', if that was the case, I'm glad they changed the direction of the story.

I remember when Chronicles was being promoted before release about how they had this epic trilogy in mind, the "briefcase" with the other two scripts in it locked so the studio heads couldn't see it until they agreed to do the first Chronicles movie.

Then it failed to deliver the profits they promised and all the flip-flopping of we're doing it/not doing it started to happen. Now I'll just be happy to see them do anything with that universe again. Between the two movies and the games as well as that animated short, it looks like an interesting universe they are building up.

I really hope this new one feels more like PB in tone. I really liked CoR but PB is way way better.

PB was a monster movie with Riddick thrown in. I would like to see another movie more like COR (which is one of my favorite sci-fi movies.) Pitch Black was good, but it didn't feel like a Riddick movie to me. [BLACKOUT]But this could all be because I saw COR first.[/BLACKOUT]

My problem with CoR wasn't the scope - I welcome any new space opera when possible. But I didn't like how Riddick became this key to the universe. I liked him as a little con who gets over his head that he is forced to be the good guy but don't make him ruler or whatever.

Ach, that is along the same lines as many a tale, 'the chosen one' and all that, I didn't have aproblem with how they tied that into the events of PB, the holy man thinking Riddick was a Furian and tipping off the elementals...the problem was the bad guys he had to fight, they were awful in design and manner.

It's also like Conan as well, the one time thief, criminal and barbarian eventually becoming a King.

But, y'know, fug it, I don't care as long as it has a good story, and the less we see of the Necromongers the better, no mention of them in that synopsis anyway.

and I think Riddick is the central character in PB, it's just that he was the lead of an ensemble in that one.
I didn't even realise at the time that movie had been released in the cinema, I thought it was one of those video shop sensations. and talking about buying my nephew CoR at the top of the page, I just remembered standing in the video shop with him one night, when he was staying over at my flat, and some guy was in the shop looking over the box of PB, wondering if it was worth renting, my nephew noticed this and whispered to me 'PB is really good isn't it?', and the guy turned to my nephew asking him, 'Is it? Is this really good?', and my nephew clammed up, lol, really shy kid.

I imagine they will come up with a quick explanation as to why he jumped ship from the Necromongers, and then the movie will hit the ground running.

I'll take whatever movie they wanna throw Riddick in, cuz it's always going to be bad ass. He's a great character, and if they go dark, R, and take the best of CoR and mix it with what made PB so good, they're going to make a great movie.

ah, forget it, I'm not gonna stink myself up by making petty comments like a lot of folk on the net do.
