Pitch Black but with mercs instead of aliens? I'm so excited for this flick.

Sounds cool. I like the idea that he is still thought of as an outsider by the Necromongers even though he now rules them. Leading to him being betrayed.

I love how she always had to bend over all the time. She must have spent only 10% of the movie standing up straight!

Best part of Radha Mitchell is her attractiveness and when Riddick teases her at the end.

She is a hottie for sure, got a superb body on her and it was great seeing her bend over all the time, she needs to be in more movies, but in less clothes :cwink:

Early production art has been released of Riddick fighting one of those muddemons that was announced a couple months ago.Which makes me wonderwhen this will start filming now the Fast and Furious and XXX sequels are also knee deep in preproduction.

MattTwentySix from the imdb.com forums claims to have read a draft of the Riddick script. Not wanting to be spoiled too much (even if it's validity iffy:o) i only read the first couple details and it seems that among other things that there's a role in it for Karl Urban's character Vaako.

This sounds pretty good, I like the fact that it carries on from COR, although i'm a bit bummed they cant complete the original trilogy plan they had as I thought it was leading to very interesting places, but there is some good ideas in this story also, as long as its Riddick movie i'll watch it anyway.

i hope that the third film gets it right.

I really think that 'Chronicles of Riddick' is a classic case of a filmmaker misinterpreting the success of the original film and what made it work. Same goes with George Lucas and prequels, and so forth. Not terrible movies per say, but misguided.

The problem with the second film was that it was a little too ambitious for me, but I still dug it.

Riddick didn't have anyone to talk to besides that girl in 'Chronicles'.

and what makes him work is not him alone but the characters who surround him. Usually, that's the key when you're dealing with a rogue character like that. Han Solo and Jack Sparrow worked because of the rest of the cast. If you got a 'straight character' or rival, it shows off the persona of the said character. That character being Riddick.

That's why Pitch Black worked so well. Riddick has people to talk to.

i don't think 'Chronicles' was a bad more, but like what you said Doctor Jones, it was too big/too ambitious, and funny enough, didn't leave much of an impression that the much smaller Pitch Black did. ironic.

I think if they developed Riddick and Vaako's rivalry a bit more it would of helped.

how did a C movie like pitch black spawn so many riddick fans and enough to make all these other bad sequels and games?

is there something im missing or does everyone just love vin deisel or something?

No... it's to do with Pitch Black being a great little cult film. And Riddick is a pretty bad ass character.

Pitch Black was a movie that came out of no where and nobody was expecting too much of it. Surprisingly, it was more than a 'monster alien' movie. It had great character moments, especially with Riddick. He wasn't a throwaway character like in a slasher film where you don't give an "F" about the cast. you did here.

On top of what Ace and (The Hunt for Red) Ocbtoberist said, the games where in actuality really cool. Once again they featured cool localities and surrounded Riddick with interesting characters to play off.

^Hhhhmmm, it sounds good and all but it doesnt seem like it takes the character anywere, its nice for Riddick to go back to being a viscious killer but it doesnt seem to develop him from reading that article, either that or he just didnt want to post too many spoilers.

Its a real shame the Necromonger storyline is pretty much left behind, though I suppose there is the chance to re-visit it at a later point. I'm glad they mention Furya though but there seems to be something about that planet that hasnt quite been revealed yet, more than the LM slaughtering it anyway.

Either way, I cant complain too much, I never though we would get a Riddick sequel so I am happy to see the character back on screen if they greenlight it.

I like it when a property gets too bloated and they strip it back down to the essence. Listen, I don't hate CoR I just am happy to see "Dead Man Stalking" go back to Riddick's roots. And if you think about it, we have never seen him be as vicious as people says he was. In a way it's character progression, even if it's regression (wut?!). I'm with you though, happy to have anything.

I like Dead Man Stalking title. Point of fact I'd be more than happy of they dropped the Chronicles moniker altogether. And they absolutely should drop it from future Pitch Black releases.

Yeah, it will be nice to see him hunting humans, etc, but I just felt COR set up what could have potentially been a great space opera and something different that other series in the genre.

It appears as if they may re-address the Furya aspect in a 4th film.

No wonder Hollywood has no interest in producing original, big budget properties, given the apathy I read in the comments here.

its called hypocricy. they writte that they want original. then when its out they complain that its not good. at the same time they writte how they like the unoriginal movie. they complain that its unoriginal but still good.

and then is anyone really wondering why hollywood is not trying more hard? look at the numbers. look at the boxoffice. facts are facts.

Why because people want it to be more like Pitch Black than Chronicles? Or the fact that people are enthusiastic about a sequel at all? I love original stuff and I appreciate what they tried with Chronicles. I just don't think it worked as well.

How many films have you seen about an irredeemable psycho getting hunted down by two separate factions of mercenaries on a strange planet he was abandoned on?
