i think Nivek thinks that riddick is original and that he doesn like the negative comments that riddick was not good.

i just think 'Riddick' was a movie that was enjoyable but was way watered down.

It's kinda like your favorite band making it big. Once they're big, they have to deal with the record label and appeal to a broader crowd. So they have to make songs that are appealing to the masses ie less edge and more commercial. it makes sense and it has worked out for some bands, but not all.

I think 'Riddick' is an example of that. It needed to be Rated R. It needed that edge. Riddick as a character was fun because he was unpredictable and could kill you at any moment. Hopefully part 3 will have that again without relying to much on 'Pitch Black'.

Keep the edge, but still make it new.

I really liked COR, especially the DC, but Riddick was too neutered in it, and they revealed too much about him, in Pitch Black he was more interesint because we didnt know anything about him.

They did introduce some interesting stuff about him in COR, but he really needed to be more ruthless, and we needed to be more on edge about the people around him being safe or not. It sounds like they re-introduce this element in Riddick 3, I just hope they go all the way with it.

After seeing how Chronicles ended, I'd definitely like to know what happened what happened to Riddick leading the

^It was an intriguing ending for sure, and I would have like to see were it was going, supposedly he was going to take the army into the underverse to rescue Jack/Kyra and bring her back.

That definately would have been interesting, but I like the fact they are going back to basics with the new one, COR was just a bit too fantastical.

^I'll have to have a look it later, cant view it in work and the last one was taken down.

The Cartoonicles of Riddick

Vin Diesel is working on a new animated Riddick series to run in conjunction with the new live-action flick he’s doing with character brainchild David Twohy (one which will apparently be closer in tone to Pitch Black than the ill-fated sequel, Chronicles of Riddick). They’ve apparently got quite a bit of it in the can, with the composer adding his touches to the series last week.

Maybe this is the reason why there hasn't been any news on third film for months now.

I'm not clear about the wording there....they already have a lot of the live action film in the can or the animated project? I'd assume the animated project but article isn't really clear.

I'm assuming the cartoon since it says "series."

Thanks for the update. I was scared this was put on the shelf.

Excellent news. LGF are becoming the new Carolco. I think it's good all the action stars are finding their homes there. I was happy when they where announced as possible candidates to purchase the Terminator rights.

Looks like Universal either doesn't want to do the movie on their own, or they decided to let Vin take the rights to the series and move on to a studio that wants it.

Simply put, Lionsgate now has Riddick.

Not trying to disprove what you're saying but it seems that Lionsgate have had international distribution rights all along. Universal still own the domestic rights to Riddick 3.

It worries me a little that there seems to be no movement on this other than Twohy and Diesel talking about it, I wish we would get some concrete stuff for once.

Glad they are taking the character back a notch to PB though, I liked COR, but Riddick was much more interesting in Pitch Black.

the crematoria scenes in the 2nd film reminded me the most of the first film, but i still liked it, even tho i didnt find the lord marshall and the necromongers at all interesting. im here for riddick

Yeah, I am the same with that movie, I really like all the bounty hunter stuff at the start, and then when they get back to that with what you are talking about. That should have been the movie.

and there is something George Lucas said once, about sci-fi design, and it was that a lot of sci-fi go just a little too far with the futuristic designs, and they end up looking daft as a result, you have to make sure you don't do that so it will all be very tasteful.
and the Necromongers are a classic case in how not to do that design wise, same with some of the sets in their habitat.

I really hope they get this movie going, aicn ran some news about it a few days ago, just something about Twhoy(sic right?) and Diesal twittering about it. Man, twittering, lol, I 'ate that word.

Yeah, once the crematoria sequence ends I tend to lose interest in the movie, the fight with the Lord Marshall I just dont feel invested in at all, but all the Crematoria stuff really seems like the character going back to his roots, it may have been better if the movie ended there.

I liked just about everything about Chronicles, sure Pitch Black may of been better but I think CoR was one of the most underrated sci-fi films of the past few years.

I prefer CoR to PB.

That is the first time I've read anyone say that. I like CoR, but it is a bit bloated, tries to fit a lot in and overdoes it, whereas PB is an extremely cool, tight horror film. CoR tries to be a one man Han Solo Star Wars movie, and comes up very short, although it has entertaining sequences in the attempt. PB tries to be Alien, and is definitely in the same league as that film, which was some feat for such a low budget film.
There is also the anime short film that takes place between the two films, 'Dark Fury', i got a copy off e-bay, if any of you have not seen it, it's well worth getting, takes place right after PB ends, with them on the escaping ship, it's very good.

^I think they are about level, and I am talking about the DC of CoR here, not the theatrical version which was extremely watered down. Riddick is more interesting in PB thats for sure.
