I have watched the DC and I still think that the movie is only okay. It's not horrible or anything but it's just so shoulder shrugging.

Fair enough, the DC isnt an amazing movie or anything but I thought it was an improvement over the TC.

I've always thought that both cuts' hearts were in the right place but it was still kinda sloppy and overly ambitious.

I personally really enjoy the Riddick films. Both of them entertained the crap outta me. I'm really looking forward to this new one!

^Same here, and I enjoy the DC of COR a lot, so I am glad they are following up that storyline, though obviously this new movie wont feel as big as the last one, but thats to be expected with the reduction in budget.

I hope they somehow can try to recreate the same feel and tone of Pitch Black, which was the far better movie IMO.

Yeah I'm cool with a bit of a smaller scale. While I really like Chronicles of Riddick, I much preferred the smaller scale of Pitch Black.

Sorry to be a jerk about this but I just got a picture in my mind of Vin Diesel in 20 years filming a Riddick youtube series in his backyard after his career goes downhill.

Vin Diesel's career won't go downhill completely. Not with the Fast and Furious franchise still going strong anyway.

I think a new Riddick film would be popular too. He's got a cult fanbase already, just make a good movie and it should do well.

Pitch Black is a genuinely great film. One of the best action sci fi's of the 2000s. CoR was ok, but was a disappointment, it had an interesting story, in concept anyway. The Riddick character was still awesome though.

I don't know, I still think Diesel is overestimating Riddick's popularity and appeal... again.

It's OK, cause this one's budget is not $100 mil like the last Universal pic.

Think lower...much much lower.

And Vin is indeed making big concessions, considering his current asking price vis-a-vis his success with the current Fast & Furious franchise entries.

:word:

Vin Diesel does have a following the Fast and Furious movies with him made tons of cash and I think XXX did good. Mainstream audiences trust him.

The first two movies weren't anything special, but I think the character of Riddick has a lot of potential. I'll probably end up seeing it just to support Vin Diesel's decision to push for an R rating. Good Guy Vin.

Mainstream audiences trust him in those types of movies - contemporary, stunt-heavy action films. The jury's still out on the sci-fi stuff. Hell, futuristic space opera sci-fi is still a risk regardless of who is in it unless its Star Wars or Star Trek. Lock-Out and Prometheus both look really cool but there's no guarantee that either will be a hit.

I think the only reason Diesel is doing this movie and for so cheap is because he genuinely loves the character and playing the character.

Also didn't he come back to play Riddick in a couple of video games after the second movie? Also he's a producer of the Riddick films so he also has a heavier interest in this series beyond just being an actor getting a payday.

Yeah he definitely is a fan of the character. Thats why I like his Facebook so much. His passion for the characters he loves playing is very evident.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I still wish he'd give in and do another xXx. It was a silly concept, but the movie was fun and the action sequences were great. Plus I need something to erase the Ice Cube sequel from my memory completely. I've been trying for years to repress the memory.

Oh I agree whole-heartedly. I really, really like xXx. It was a fun film and I definitely want another Vin Diesel xXx film. That should come next.

xxx seems dated even when it came out in the early 2000's. Extreme sports of the late 90's is too common now to be cool.

Yea i was just about to say that. The extreme sports angle wouldn't work these days. Back when XXX came out extreme sports were the in thing. Not now.

Definately, its not as if he is doing this one for the money he wont be getting that big a paycheck for this as he usually does. He loves the character and has from the start, I think Twohy feels the same way.

Exactly. What dates it even further was the opening scene with that rip on Bond. Funny enough Bond is still relevant til this very day.
