I'm definitely getting amped for this. Riddick is such a cool character

I've watched Chronicles twice now on blu since these pictures started appearing. I just. I just want more! :woot: I was also reading some of the user reviews for the movie around the web and it is great to see that many do actually understand that it's a true sci fi masterpiece and not the massive fail others would have you believe that forever tarnished the character.

Liking the new goggles in the above picture too.

Its great to see pictures coming out on a regular basis, hopefully a trailer isnt too far away, maybe in the summer or something. I just really happy we are getting another Riddick movie.

xxx seems dated even when it came out in the early 2000's. Extreme sports of the late 90's is too common now to be cool.

True, extreme sports aren't really "extreme" anymore but I still thought the concept was fun and cool and the movie was clearly made to have sequels. Of course, it did get one... ugh, that movie was so terrible it hurts just thinking about it. It was almost like it was made as a big joke.

Official Announcement for the Start of Riddick Filming
Source: Universal Pictures
February 3, 2012

Universal Pictures, One Race Films and Radar Pictures announced today that principal photography has begun on the action-driven, sci-fi thriller Riddick. The shoot will take place in Montreal.

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy) as Vaako and introduces to the series Jordi Molla (Bad Boys II, Colombiana) as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's Battlestar Galactica) as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (TV's Aliens in America) and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

The film is produced by Vin Diesel (upcoming Fast & Furious 6, Fast Five) and executive produced by Samantha Vincent (Fast Five, Fast & Furious) for One Race Films. Ted Field (The Last Samurai, Pitch Black) produces for Radar Pictures, while Mike Drake (Dream House, A Nightmare on Elm Street) also executive produces.

Twohy is joined on the film by a talented behind-the-scenes team, including director of photography David Eggby (Pitch Black, Mad Max), production designer Joseph Nemec III (A Perfect Getaway, The Hills Have Eyes, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and editor Tracy Hall (Limitless, A Perfect Getaway, The Flock).

The Riddick franchise has also produced two popular video games: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. As well, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released the anime DVD The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury.

Riddick, which is shooting in Montreal, Canada, is a One Race Films production. The film will be released by Universal Pictures in the U.S., and Lionsgate is handling international sales.

Hope Urban is in the whole movie... More of that haircut the better.

Ah, I just noticed that the captain of the merc ship who 'is looking for answers' has the same surname(Johns), as the merc from PB, who Riddick killed. So he is probably his brother, and the same character who is described in the preceding paragraph as having a more personal reason for looking for Riddick.

So, Twohy is basically doing a direct sequel to PB, with a specific story link. A bit like Die Hard 3.

I take it the people he was in charge of after killing their leader probably didn't like him and left him stranded.

Would indeed be interesting for a relation of William J. Johns to turn up hard on Riddicks' tail. I loved the original Johns character (Cole Hauser is so underrated in that role!) and it would be great to see someone with a similar skill set go head to head with Vin.

I hope this film has enough success for them to continue with the franchise, i would like to see another Riddick video game or even books and comics about his continuing adventures

I really like Riddick its such a cool sci-fi franchise. i still dont understand why chronicles of riddick got so much negativity. i mean yeah its not perfect but it was a good scifi flick.
So i take it that this new one will be more like Pitch black?

Yeah, seems like it will be, i also hope this can revitalise the franchise, from the plot this may end up a good follow up to the franchise or a cheap film that will make the franchise end up in the direct to DVD market or have a slow death

Well, the franchise started in the other direction altogether...on paper, PB could easily have ended up direct to dvd, but was such a good use of a relatively low budget, it did not bad at the BO, and spawned a $100 million sequel.
Twohy still knew how to do great Riddick in CoR, it's just that it got overdone with all that 'chosen one'/necromongers overblown space opera epic stuff.

I don't think this will be a bad one, he'll keep it simple this time. It'll be a streamlined Riddick, and will be a bit different from the previous two enteries for the fact that PB was an ensemble, and CoR was overblown, so here we'll get a smaller, focused movie, like PB, but with Riddick at the centre, like CoR.
There was no problem with a smaller Riddick movie, and no prob with him being the centre of the film(only probs were with the type of film he was the centre of). So this third time will have great elements from both films combined for the first time.

So does this follow CoR? I wonder how and why Riddick isn't in charge of the Necro's? Maybe he gave the throne to Vaako or something?

I love that Vin Diesel is releasing pictures on Facebook. We're going to get more media from this than movies coming out much sooner.

The synopsis is almost like, Rambo in space. :yay:

More likely they kicked him out for not wanting to further the Necromonger brainwashing cause. I mean, that is what happens when someone takes the top job, and political factions still want to follow the policies that the previous administration followed, they stage a coup.
It is a bit of a funny one conceptually, the entire Necromonger army are all brainwashed by that machine, how are they gonna be able to follow another ruler? Can he put them all back in the machine and give them back their souls if he wants to start a new ethos?

Yeah, I wonder how much of the movie will be spent explaining what happened there, Karl Urban is in the flick, so it will be dealt with.

It looks like they are going back to basics for this one, which I like. I would be surprised if Riddick just up and left. He isn't exactly someone that plays well with others. Maybe Vaako is after him because he can't have the throne unless he kills him even if Riddick doesn't want it.

Agreed it does sound more like pitch black setting then TCOR, just Riddick taking on merch's!

That new picture..all I can think is Riddick wanted a mud bath :p
