Ridley Scott is Considering Alien Prequel/Reboot

I'm always excited about new sci-fi, (though I doubt he will ever top Blade Runner) I just was hoping that some one would breathe new life into the Alien franchise.

But the more sci-fi the merrier.

In the press release Im shocked on how open they were on how Hollywood has gone 'reboot/sequel/prequel' crazy.

I think Hollywood is FINALLY understanding that you rely so much on brand names. Espcially the success of Inception, Avatar and even District 9.

I love comic book movies too along with sequels to some of my favs, but you can't saturate the market. It becomes dangerous because where are you going to do in 20 years? Remake Austin Powers?

Yeah they are growing a pair again. Although a lot studios are still keeping a bunch of their reboot/prequel/remake ideas on the table it seems.

All I can say is thank Christ. If ever a series didn't need a prequel it was Alien.

I mean, that's just how it is and I've learned to accept it (for the most part.) I think people know a 'cheap cash-in' when they see it.

When Hollywood is remaking films, my biggest problem is how they're just banking on the name. For example, "Fame". The remake bombed. In fact, the original was a decent film that was very, very dark but the new one was watered down. To me that's weird.

The "safety" button is pressed far to often nowadays. Thats what gives off that watered down feeling.

They either don't explore that world and flatly emulate or actually make things worse by watering down themes and tone that might have been prevalent in the original.

Ehh I think some are too quick to "rip" on remakes because they are popular right now.

I agree it's not always the best but with big series with huge universes it is nice to see some one re-start a dying franchise and give respect back to it, or just to see another take on something. There are still many films I would like to see re-boots to since some had such potential and fall short after the first films or so forth.

Now I do agree the market can get saturated, and they need to start doing some new IP's and it's good that Hollywood is taking way more chances with it, I'm not denying this for one bit it is truly truly great.

However I think reboots and sequels are just fine if they are done well. It's not good to saturate, but its not bad to re-invent or give new life to great series that have fallen to darkness so to speak.

Again I'm still super stoked for this film, it's just awesome to see Ridley back in the sci-fi realm.

It hasn't been that bad in the SH realm, its sci-fi, horror, and other movies that carry a lot of nostalgia that have been the worse.

People are exaggerating in regards to SH as we've only gotten, what three reboots and two in progress that I can think from the top of my head. One succeeding (Batman series), two of them falling to deaf ears or just not clicking with the GA, those being Superman Returns and The Incredible Hulk.

We've yet to see what will happen with Spider-Man and X-Men: First Class. To early to say.

It's all too vanilla these days.

I'm actually a supporter of Fincher's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. But we both agree that blatantly relying on the name brand and saturating the market with it is NOT good.

I think people should stop complaining what a film is (adaptation, remakes, etc.), however this sounds more interesting to me than a prequel to Alien

And I agree with this.

I wish more Dick books were adapted now that Sci-Fi is getting a second breath the past few years.

I want some aliens, I want some cool original looking set design, I want an experience of a life time, I want I want!

Here's hoping for a good Ubik or The Man in the High Castle movie in the near future.

This is for the best.

Alien did not need a prequel.

I really want as much as possible in camera effects/sets used. CGI of course but I hope they limit it as much as possible.
