It's cool to see this project evolve into a original sci-fi film instead of a prequel. I'm interested to see what they come up with.

If so, fine. I can live without it. I was always uneasy about the prequel idea and the jockey. Lindelof and Scott involved in sci fi is awesome.

Yea I'm excited and its great the problem be it though is you know that Fox is still going to get something "Alien" out there, and now it probably will be some one like Paul W.S. Anderson or something. That is my sadness.

We may have been uneasy but we never would have known how it turned out.

However I'm excited about this, and hope for a great sci fi since this is the man that made my favorite Sci-Fi of all time.

No. The whole point of giving Predator to Robert Rodriguez and Ridley Scott doing an Alien prequel was that they didn't want to piss off the fans and general audiences anymore.

This is a smart move made by Ridley and I'm surprised Fox went along with it, good thing. I'm intrigued by what Ridley and Damon has said about the film and looking forward to more details.

I have mixed feelings about this news. On the one hand, if the story they were coming up with wasn't fitting for Alien, then it's great that they took the plunge and decided to do their own thing with it instead of trying to make it fit the Alien universe. It's likely that we're in for another classic like the original film and Blade Runner.

But I also feel extremely disappointed, because I think Scott is one of the two men (the other being Cameron, of course) who could have resurrected the franchise. He'd been considering it for a long while, hinted at it for years, then it looks like this thing is finally in the works and then POOF, it's gone. The last three films were extremely disappointing (some would argue four, but I think A3 doesn't get enough credit) and even if we DO get another Alien film, I'm afraid it will once again go to someone who has no business directing it.

i also see another situation. the script is 95% original with some alien homages. until the filming and between the filming they will do rewrittes and change the script to an alien prequel.

Its using Alien elements but not in a way that it will be obvious to the GA that this is Alien related if that makes sense. They aren't releasing much info right now.

They are keeping a lot of info secret at the moment.
