If Giger is staying on, then I'm even more psyched. That should be very interesting. As far as I know, we're all accustomed to Giger's design work on the alien films. So possibly Scott will have him stretch out his usual style.

This film could possibly have so much win.

if this movie is something new and original then Giger can nto work on the movie. hes style is way to much connected with Alien .

was it me who realesed official info that this is a new original scifi franchise or movie?

I'm conflicted over this news. I was really looking forward to Ridley doing an Alien prequel but I'm also really excited at the prospect of him pursuing something original in the Sci-Fi genre. I just hope that Giger is still involved because the idea of Ridley doing a Sci-Fi movie with Giger and Lindelof sounds incredible.

Noomi Rapace talks about Prometheus

The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter has just had a quick interview with BAFTA nominated Noomi Rapace. In this interview Rapace drops a few hints about her character in Prometheus.
The interview is in Swedish, but I've translated it for you here:

"It's going to be awesome. I play a character named Elizabeth Shaw. She's supercool! But I'm not playing Ripley from the other Alien films, although this one is connected with them"

DN further writes that Prometheus is based on the Alien mythology, and that the pre-production is under way.

"I've already been in the studio and tried costumes amongst other things. Now I'm going to rehearse on the script, do physical training, stunt training, language training and other preparations for the part"
When asked about the biggest challenge with playing Elizabeth Shaw, she says:

"There's always the same struggle with playing any role. To give the character a soul and life and to fill myself with it. And it feels impossible when you read a good script right before the first take."

About Ridley Scott, she says:

"Ridley is a highly inspiring person to talk to. Very passionate about movies. He's always watching movies. He told me he's seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo four times!", she laughs.
Furthermore, DN reports that Noomi will be busy working with Prometheus until July this year.
On February 13th she'll be up against Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman amongst others for the best actress award at the BAFTAs.

Looks like the film is connected to the Alien series after all. Thank God!

FOX Chile also called it an Alien prequel on their Twitter a few days ago, and announced a release date.

That's a major relief. I was afraid that our last chance for another decent Alien film was being pissed away.

I'm fine with the xenomorph getting a rest. But I thought the world of Alien and the Space Jockeys were good enough concepts for another film.

I would like to leave it a bit ambiguous. Kind of how many people speculate that Blade Runner and at least the first Alien are the same universe (just Blade Runner being set several hundred years earlier). I like that.

Maybe touch on space jockeys and the like, but I'm relieved that it is something wholly fresh and original. This allows it to grow organically into a sci-fi epic that will hopefully stand side by side with Blade Runner and the first Alien. I am much more excited about Ridley Scott trying to deliver his next sci-fi vision as opposed to yet another alien movie--a prequel no less. If there are hints of Alien, cool. But let this be something else entirely.

My thoughts.

P.S. Noomi Rapace is a great edition to any movie Scott was making.

I can't remember whether it was the commentary in Alien or in Blade Runner, Crowe, but Scott said you could imagine Ripley and the others going to that bar in Blade Runner for a drink after a year in space.

Now Prometheus takes John Carter's old release date.
Last week, it was announced that Walt Disney Pictures had moved Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars up from June 8, 2012 to March 9, 2012, putting it up against Ridley Scott's Prometheus and leaving the June 8 date empty.

20th Century Fox has easily solved that problem by moving Prometheus to June 8, 2012.

Right now, no other movie is scheduled for that date.

It's a good move I guess.

Really? I'd figure it was a smart move from Disney, since it has a year of post-production I guess it won't hurt for them to release the movie earlier.

i dont think this movie will make a lot money in the summer.

i hope it is not an action movie. please 100% suspense and story.

It could be tough since the GA might get confused between this and the Alien movies and since it's connection to the Alien mythology will be left ambiguous, Fox will need some good marketing to show that it may have similar elements but it's mostly a original movie.

Well at least this gives more time for Scott to work on the movie.

MICHAEL FASSBENDER JOINS THE CAST of Prometheus!

Michael Fassbender will star opposite Noomi Rapace in Prometheus, Fox's sci-fi project that was once an Alien prequel.
Ridley Scott is directing the movie, which just shifted release dates, moving from a March 2012 berth to a high-profile summer release of June 8, 2012.

Much of the story line is shrouded by secrecy, but Scott said the movie will have "Alien DNA." Fassbender is playing an android.
Fassbender, repped by CAA, was one of the breakouts from Inglourious Basterds, booking several high-profile roles off that film, including that of Magneto in Fox's X-Men: First Class.

He was offered the Prometheus role last year (when it was still the Alien prequel), with talks on and off throughout the fall. Fassbender also flirted with Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, but now that he has booked Prometheus, that dance is over.

May I point out that he was rumored for a role in Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit'. If that's true and IF he's up for Bard, he could be still in the running since The Hobbit is such a long production and he can come in later in the year post-Prometheus.

Well, Fassbender just put this on my must see list.

I wanted him for Bard in The Hobbit :csad:.

I guess it's still possible since Bard's role doesn't come up until the last half of the book anyway, and Michael could jump in after this shoot. And since Jackson has been accommodating to actor's schedule, they COULD work something out.

I figure that Ridley might shoot the film starting in late May, so he'll have the Fall to shoot The Hobbit if the schedule permits.

It's one of those things where you know that guys like Fassbender and Hardy are in a bunch of movies in 2012, but I think the more the merrier since they're so talented. And we need new talent in Hollywood.

We'll see.

I want to see him as Bard too. I think he'll lend nicely as the precursor to Viggo's Aragorn.
