Riots in Missouri - Part 1

This is getting ugly. Really hard to tell if the police's reaction is proportionate or fully justified. Van Jones posited on CNN that the teargas made everything much worse.

I really don't get why they announced this at night.

Stop focusing on the protesting. They are not the problem. The problem in this country is the the FACT that racist mother****ing homicidal cops (and cop wannabe civilians) constantly getting away with killing black men (some cases women). What a racist country. I'm beyond disgusted. **** the cops. Is time to stand up and fight back as far as I'm concern.

You really need to calm down....seriously, chill.

OK look I REALIZE fully that a lot of protestors are good and peaceful, but the FACT remain this whole protest was NOT successful at being peaceful, if anything, just violence and violence!!!

They just fired tear gas into a crowd where 3 CNN reporters were reporting. This is truly just terrible.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid...I'm thinking a 6:00 a.m. announcement would have been much better.

You're missing the point. Regardless of the outcome a teenager is dead. It doesn't matter if he was a saint or not, there was no justification for all the shots fired at an unarmed person. There's no bringing him back but the next best thing is justice. That's all people want. I never truly had a problem with our justice system here in America. It's not perfect, but after what I saw in the George Zimmerman case, I lost all faith.
Except I don't think that many people wanted justice in this case. Many just simply wanted to see Wilson punished regardless of whether or not he was guilty. That is not justice. Justice is taking all of the facts and making a rational decision based on all of the evidence available.

Now I personally believe that there should have at least been a trial to make Wilson properly answer for what happened and so that there could have been even further analysis of the evidence. But both sides really deserve a lot of criticism in this instance. And I mean A LOT.

Everything about this has been horribly mismanaged.

The WHOLE protest wasn't violent; some of the protesters turned violent. You even said so yourself. Why do you insist on generalizing?

I'm flipping channels between CNN and Fox, Fox reporters got caught in it as well...the guy was coughing and could barely speak. Gun fire in the background as well.

And the cop car on fire is going to become one of those infamous images.

I feel the police response is JUSTIFIED, because the protestors (Some) attacked the police FIRST!

If that is your position, you don't believe in allowing people to protest.

And what does "fight back" mean to you? Does that mean something violent?

Yeah, that was pretty stupid...I'm thinking a 6:00 a.m. announcement would have been much better.

They had to have known this was going to happen. So then I have to wonder why they did it now.

It seems people are forgetting that there is still a Federal Investigation ongoing in Ferguson...they are looking at specifics of things many of you are stating here, racism within the police department etc.

You can't protest, IF the outcome is violent ALL the time!

So you think all protests turn violent? Interesting.

And what about the people that protest, but have never done anything illegal or violent? They lose their constitutionally protected rights because of a few idiots? I don't want to live in your version of America.

Considering all the underlying problems in this town, I have a hard time blaming the citizens. You are completely right, many wanted Wilson hung, no trial. But is it hard to wonder why when you consider this goes beyond this one case.

IF it will turn violent, REGARDLESS how many good protestors are involved, then it's NOT a good idea to protest!

They had to have known this was going to happen. So then I have to wonder why they did it now.

I have absolutely no clue...someone is not thinking, not thinking at all.

Ok, how about everyone stop generalizing?

Not all police officers are horrible murdering *******s, and not every protester is involved in wanton destruction.

So, what kinds of rules of engagement should we recommend for police to avoid so many potentially unnecessary shootings? And what kind of work needs to be done in and with the general community to ease relations between officers?

I mean, I get that people are angry. But I'm not hearing a lot on how to solve any of the issues from either side right now. In a perfect world, what would does everyone want to see?

I have absolutely no clue...someone is not thinking, not thinking at all.

"Someone is not thinking." From martial-law in August to announcing this at 10:30 at night, couldn't that describe the whole handling of this?
