RIP Celebrity Thread - Part 4

So long Penny. I’ll pour out a Shotz for you tonight.

Goodbye Penny....she was a good actor and a good director.

Aw. That stinks. RIP Penny Marshall. :(

To me she’ll always be best remembered in her memorable cameo as the cranky housewife (opposite her brother Garry) in Hocus Pocus. RIP Penny Marshall.

Galt MacDermot, who composed hit Broadway musicals Hair and Two Gentlemen of Verona, died Monday, a day before his 90th birthday. His death was confirmed to Playbill by his granddaughter, though a cause of death was not revealed.

MacDermot’s music, both from his stage productions and non-Broadway albums, also had an impact on hip-hop. Samples of “Space,” from his Woman Is Sweeter soundtrack, have appeared in tracks by Snoop Dogg, Faith Evans and Busta Rhymes; his solo recording “Coffee Cold” features in recordings by Gang Starr and Handsome Boy Modeling School; and Golden Apples – Part II was used in music by J Dilla and Obie Trice. Additionally, Madlib, MF Doom, Run-DMC and Public Enemy, among many others, have all sampled his music in their recordings.

RIP Donald Moffat. Great character actor, seems like he was in just about everything.

I remember watching Donald Moffat as Rem in the TV series of Logan's Run.

Not many realise that Paddy Ashdown was a regular James Bond in his day;

"Royal Marines and Special Boat Section
After his father's business collapsed, Ashdown passed the naval scholarship examination to pay for his school fees, but left before taking A-levels and joined the Royal Marines in 1959, serving until 1972 and retiring with the rank of captain. He served in Borneo during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation and the Persian Gulf, before training as a Swimmer Canoeist in 1965, after which he joined the elite Special Boat Section and commanded a Section in the Far East. He then went to Hong Kong in 1967 to undertake a full-time interpreter's course in Chinese, and returned to Britain in 1970 when he was given command of a Royal Marine company in Belfast.

Intelligence officer and diplomat
Ashdown left the Royal Marines to join the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS or MI6). As diplomatic cover, he worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as first secretary to the United Kingdom mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. At the UN, Ashdown was responsible for relations with several UN organisations, involved in the negotiation of several international treaties, and some aspects of the Helsinki Accords in 1975."

I served, some years after he'd retired. He was still especially highly thought of. RIP Royal.
