This has me wondering if when Rey heals Ben after she stabs him if it rids him of Sidious's dark side influence and if that's why he's finally able to embrace the Light Side.

Kylo's entire story is just tragic. Kid gets manipulated since birth to become what he is now. That's the main reason why I'm so disappointed with him just dying. He's such an interesting character I think he deserves a bit more than a sac death. *heavy sigh*

So the only concern I’ve had with this whole thing is that it could mean Anakin’s status as Chosen One meant nothing, with them putting Rey on a pedestal to finish everything. And I decided maybe it doesn’t.

What if Anakin’s status is correct, but it wasn’t necessarily Anakin himself but the events he puts in motion. He brings down a faulty Jedi Order, but also deals the biggest blow to the Dark Lord of the Sith who may be the most powerful force user. Luke of course was the guiding light that brought Anakin back from Vader. Depowerd,Sidious, when the time comes, could be defeated by Rey and Kylo ,rising as this force bonded pair with a direct blood connection to Anakin. Yoda in Episode III mentions they could’ve misread the prophecy. It’s a retcon I wouldn’t overly hate anyway.

I like this idea of Palpatine ****ing with Kylo's head and driving him to do all the things he did. It finally makes Kylo sympathetic, while making Palpatine more contemptible, as it should be.

I'm still extremely doubtful about this movie's ability to rectify the ****up of TLJ, but at the same time I can definitely already tell that I like J.J.'s approach way better than Rian's. J.J. just wants to do what he thinks will make fans excited and happy, even if he lacks the creative worldbuilding of Lucas. We'll get a straightforward final battle with a main villain who isn't treated like a parody, explanations for Rey's power and for Snoke's existence and for why Kylo is evil, a Luke who isn't an *******, and main characters who actually interact with eachother and are all involved in the main plot. Just a shame we had to get through TLJ and the complete deconstruction of the Star Wars universe in order to get there...

Hell, the millions of people who paid tickets to watch the first movie back in 1977 might all be the chosen ones, as they allowed more movies to be made...

What would people do different?
All i heard so far is complaining and going "everything would have been better than this" but what?
How would people go from TLJ and do better?
Not slamming anybody here, but its a genuine question...do people have better ideas?

Agreed...... while TLJ is a OKish movie if it was a standalone, it is a franchise killer. It is so freckin hard to do a satisfying follow-up to TLJ.

Although the leaks sound bad, i reckon the mainstream audience are gonna like this movie more than TLJ. The hardcore fans are gonna hate it if they don't lower their expectations.

For me...as long as it is better than TLJ, i will be satisfied and by the looks (and sounds) of it......that seems to be the case.

I’m kind of in a weird place.

- On the one hand, I speculated about Kylo being the product of Force-induced hallucinations and artificial schizophrenia all the way back when TFA was released,
- I also love hating Kylo Ren as a bad guy,
- I kind of want to see Ben Solo go through a story of Purgatory ,
- ...But I also loathed the idea I was supposed to think that Rey could be sympathetic of him in TLJ with a burning passion,
- *HATE* the idea that he’s the male lead now and not Finn, who I consider a superior character via development and originality.
- And if he’s the only Skywalker grandkid... then I need him dead,
- And I will cheer for his death if they do the stupid kiss thing, because that just embraces every stupid, badly characterized elements of TLJ into one moment of stupid for me.

To me, Kylo was introduced in such a way where he was always more useful to the Sequel Trilogy as a Darth Vader But Darker type of character... and could *never* really be an Anakin analogue for *this* story. I have no use for Ben Solo when I think the story should be focused on Rey and Finn before him, and I see no good way to end the Skywalker Saga with him as the last family member, while simulataneously I hate him getting to enjoy a double standard from being a Skywalker character.

To me, he was always built to support the story of a Rey Skywalker or Solo, rather than to try and partner with her as dual-protagonists. He’s too derivative, too hard to sympathize with before the reveal that he’s a brainwashed tool of Palpatine, and Ben Solo is such a non-entity that exists only in the hypothetical sense. He’s built to be an antagonist, not a protagonist. Prince Zuko, he ain’t.

And since it looks like we’re going to get stuck with Rey Palpatine/“Fakewalker”... well, I guess I’ll have to be satisfied with him dying even in this awkward retread of Anakin’s story, minus the originality or the tie to the main character that I can believe in.

If the goal was for Rey to be a Skywalker descendant, they didn't do a good job of setting that up.

more precisely, they set it up in TFA, but failed to follow through with TLJ.

the pieces were all there at the end of TFA for Rey to be Luke's daughter. But then, like Luke nonchalantly chucking the saber over his shoulders, TLJ just chucked every obvious fan expectation out of the window for the sake of subversion.
