Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I really hope this movie makes a good profit, because I want more of these films. I like the originals, but I would like to see the story told to its full potential. The fact is that the originals didn't have the budget to realize all of their big ideas, and they had to hold back. Now with cgi they can put these big ideas on screen. If they can remake the orginals; and do it better and bigger I say go for it. It wouldn't hurt to give it a chance. if you can't even do that then whats the point of discussing it at all.

I just don't see this point in this movie, you know how it's going to end.

That could be said about most of the movies out today. Star Wars prequels and every other prequel and remake. Not to mention every single horror film. They only have two endings. Bad guy lives or dies. Most movies are predictable now, but I still have fun watching them. Get off the high horse, and have a good time. You are not funding the bill for this movie so whats the big deal? Watch it or don't. The point of this movie and any remake is to try to do it better. Some have this idea that remakes are all bad, but lightening has to strike once in a while. At some point or another there will be a good remake. I hope this movie is one of them. And to be perfectly honest, anyone who reads spoilers has went into a movie with the ending spoiled at one point or another, and yet they still enjoyed it. I don't see why its alright to know the ending to one film but not a prequel.

Other than James Franco as a scientist and the woman who says "some things aren't meant to be changed", the films looks pretty interesting. I'll definitely go see it in theaters.

Simpsons already did it.

why would you hate that he has humans eyes?

Because he's an ape?

which one is more capable of showing reconizable emotion and carrying a movie?

You haven't watched a lot of documentaries about apes have you?

human eyes in something that isn't human are much more unsettling.

No. It just reminds me of the old movies where actors wore monkey masks. Forgive me for wanting the apes to actually look like real pissed off apes: scary and intimidating.

Somebody should go watch apes for a while and then come back and talk to me.

Perhaps Caesar's eye could change from ape-like to human-like after his intellect is increased. Regardless, this is a minor concern.

This.

I can only speak personally, but animals with human features and especially with human-like eyes unnerve me. It's these qualities that actually makes me prefer the men in makeup approach in the originals over the cgi approach. It's unnerving. In this movie I think the cgi works, because these are current apes. Its near impossible to get make-up to look like its a real ape on screen. However, the apes from the other films that are set far in the future have evolved from the current apes so they can have more human features and it be excuseable so the make-up works in those original films. So men in masks isn't always bad. These human-like qualities you don't like are natural progressions in the primate species. Eventually in the future they would develope more human qualities. So if there are future films set far in the future you will more than likely see more human like features in the apes such as the eyes, how they walk, their gate, and their general body build. Walking upright alone will change how they look as a chimpanzee's pelvic set up isn't made for walking upright. These things have to be fixed through evolution. It would be shortsighted not to bring about these changes in any possible future instalments. In this film chimp eyes could possibly work, but in future films set far in the future the the later generations of apes will have developed different eyes due to pigmant changes resulting from being in different environments, different builds due to muscle being used more and some being used less, change in cranium size due to the brain developing more to accomodate the increase in intelligence, and various other changes. They can't always look like current day apes and monkeys.

Just watched the trailer.

They should have just called it The Lost World : King Kong 2.

Do you ever watch any movies made about anything that happened a year or more ago?

I'm sure it's already been said but....is this a prequel to the original movie or the remake?

Trailer looks pretty good. I hope this does succeed, because despite all the flaws with the Burton film, i hated being left wondering what happened next by the movie's ending.

...everyone knew how the Lord of the Rings trilogy was going to end as well. It was a blockbuster success.

..not to mention all the SW prequels...

The whole 'world turned up side down' concept has always been fascinating.

Anyone see this on the big screen yet? How'd it look? Audience reactions?
