Monday I found out from my detailer that I will be living in Osaka, Japan for the next three years. While I am excited about this because it means my chances of becoming a samurai just doubled I am encountering a lot of problems/marriage proposals from different women who want to come with and other things. The main thing is i will probably sell my car....my brand new 2005 Mustang GT...yeah I could bring it with me but that is too much of a hassle and I dont want to have to get Godzilla insurance on it. The other problem is that I cant take my cell phone with me. Tmobile has let me down.
Anyhow I am scheduled to rotate in November so that would put me in Japan in January. How are the comic shops in Japan or am I gonna have to get subscriptions??????
Better not to take your car with you to Japan. They drive on the wrong side. Have you ever thought of putting your car in storage. I believe the Navy will pay for storage of one vehicle. And you can reduce your insurance monthly premium while it's in storage.

While you're in Japan, you can buy a used car there just to get you around and sell it before coming back to the US.

With regards to cellphone, no, it won't work there. But you can get a new cellphone while you're there and you can make and receive calls from anywhere. When I was overseas, I used a cellphone with prepaid cards (top-up). It worked just fine.

While overseas, you will most likely have to shop online. Don't worry, most will mail to FPO/APO addresses. Heck, some will even upgrade shipping with no extra charge. Good luck with your move.

Btw, is this your fist time to be stationed overseas? I was in Okinawa. It'll be a good experience if you go with a positive frame of mind.

If you can, go to Tokyo as often as possible. That city is pretty much nothing but manga and tech shops

I had a friend who was stationed in Sasebo for 3 years. Do you plan to live in the barracks or rent out on town. Apartments there are small.

So what are you gonna do about your Mustang (I've one too, 2006 and God, I love that machine! :O  )? I'd put it in storage if I were you.

Have you paid in in full yet? Oh, you're gonna get rich on COLA living in Japan so I bet you you'll be able to pay it off before your time there is over and you can return to the States with the title of that Mustang in your name.

But, on the other hand, I know what you're saying.

Oh, okay. Maybe selling it is a good option. Norfolk's good too (I was there for 4 years) but Japan's a better option, something new... plenty of knowledge to gain. I hope you'll find it to be a rewarding experience. Once you've overcome "culture shock", it'll be good. My best wishes to you.

Oopsie. Is she going with you? 3 years of separation/being apart is a very long time.

I am sorry to hear that. It will be hard but I hope you two will endure it.
I followed my bf (former) overseas. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

I wish you the best of luck, bro. Long distance relationships are REALLY freakin' hard. My wife and I did it for over two years before we got married and the only thing that made it bearable was being able to see each other for extended periods every couple of months (we were on opposite sides of the country). If we hadn't have had that, the phone calls and Yahoo chats may not have really been enough.

Why do you say that; because of the time you ot to spend with him or the exposure to whatever country you went to?

Both.

My brother is stationed in Japan at the moment. You don't have to worry about your phone. He says the weakest phone out there is a Razor. Apparently cells out there are the ****.
