Rob zombie is Done Making Horror Films

...Salem was a disappointment. But, I like Devil's Rejects, and love his Halloween films, which were two of the bet horror films in recent years.

I didnt care for the Halloween films but I really liked TDR. H1000C was ok. I actually liked the surrealism of TLOS, but I know I am alone in that opinion.

I loved it. I knew exactly what RZ was doing with it. It has the nightmare logic of Italian horror like Lucio Fulci.

Then I just might like it. I'm going to bump it up on my list right now because I'm real curious as to if I'll like it or not.

I think Rob's films are earnest, but sometimes he has these tendencies to try to hard, or not grasping directing as a whole. Like awkward shots, etc.

I think his most complete film is The Devil's Rejects.

I like how some people that hate Zombie say how he rips off older horror movies... then get all gaga over American Horror Story.

I'll take a Zombie movie over a Dunes movie any time of the year.

That's usually the go to response for fanboys when they hate someone. Kind of like how people who hate Quentin Tarantino call him a hack because he's heavily inspired by a lot of films from the 70's. Then you had some fools calling Nolan a hack because he threw in some nods to James Bond films in his Batman trilogy. :whatever:

The problem isn't so much that Zombie was ripping off old horror films it was more of a matter that he did so to no particular improvement or aim. Its one thing to borrow from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, but you have to do something to move past just being a retread, and you maybe not do it 3 films in a row.

this reminds me of the 'Shia Lebouf is no longer famous' thread. i want it to be true but remain skeptical.

At the very least, his next film is a movie about hockey.

No I read earlier he's dropping the hockey film altogether to do another horror project.

Sigh.

The thing is I actually like House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, but I was looking forward to him doing something different.

Lords of Salem is a mostly okay movie that you can just outright watch run out of money and sputter out. RZ has spoken about the money troubles and how much they had to cut from his original script and plans, basically most of the ending and most of Ken Foree's role.

My biggest problem with Lords of Salem (and lord knows I have many) is that Zombie got so many details about the radio business wrong. You'd think that he had never worked in the music business.

He seems to get involved with projects and then those ideas never pan out. Like TRex, The Blob and the Flyers movie.

I wouldn't mind seeing him try a dark superhero... like Swamp Thing or The Spectre.

I guess we'll see. I'll be curious if he totally gives it up for other films.

If Zombie was to get a comic book property it should be something exceedingly dark and twisted like Hellblazer or Preacher imo

The Devils Rejects is a genuinely good and unique horror film. I think he's got talent but he needs some more talent around him, particularly writers and a strong producer who will let him do his thing, but at the same time reel him in a bit if he goes too far.

That goes a bit against his resolve
Is the idea for him to have a slow transition?
